History
Established in 2007.
This three storied, 42 room hostel was opened by Michelle, an avid traveler originally from New Zealand. Arriving in San Diego in 2003 she quickly fell in love with San Diego’s amazing climate, beautiful beaches & chilled, friendly vibe. Being able to open a hostel and share all San Diego’s charms with fellow travelers has been a dream come true for her. San Diego has grown tremendously since she arrived 10 years ago and so the reasons for visiting this wonderful corner of the US keep growing. The three neighborhoods of downtown San Diego are made up by Little Italy, Gaslamp Quarter and the hostels location, the East Village. Each community has seen huge growth in flourishing shops, galleries, bars, clubs & restaurants making the downtown district a very fun, culturally exciting area to be. San Diego county now has over 50 breweries. Beer, it seems, has become as much a part of the San Diego identity as surf and sun. A development that further cemented our love of SD!
Meet the Manager
Peter S.
Manager
Pete has been working in San Diego hostels since his arrival as a backpacker in 2001. Pete would leave San Diego for periods to travel or return to his mother country, England, but always his love of San Diego and the hostel life would pull him back. Lucky D’s Hostel was excited when he took on the role of full time General Manager early 2013. He has been working tirelessly in implementing many new systems and upgrades throughout the hostel, including a new TV room so that he can be sure to catch as many of his beloved Leicester City games as possible.
