This update is Long Long Overdue, but, hey, I’ve been busy. And, largely because of the fine professionals at Mannequin Vanity Publishing the book publishing division of Mannequin Vanity Records.

Also, my book was optioned in October to be developed into a major motion picture. Although this wasn’t really a direct result of anything MVR did, I give them full credit since if it wasn’t for this tiny little indie imprint, THERE WOULDN’T BE A BOOK.
The book publishing imprint at MVR will be releasing my second novel in May of 2015 (late, and all my fault, not theirs) and I could not be happier with the finished product after MVP/MVR’s editing by Judy Campbell-​Smith.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jake on recording my album as well as putting on shows more recently, and let me tell you he is as professional as they come. He knows how to find what you are capable of musically, and he’ll make sure the final product is nothing short of amazing. Big props to him for making my guitar tracks sound EPIC! And the guy is really cool to be around while working, which isn’t always the case in the music industry! The man knows what he’s doing, work with him if you know whats good for you.

Over the past two years I’ve worked with Mannequin Vanity Records in a variety of formal and informal situations. While I originally met Jake of MVR through my day job within the music industry, I’ve since worked with MVR through a number of their services, from live show promotion, to recording my five full length album (Bored Games), and a number of their additional resources and advice. Jake has become a sounding board (no pun intended) for my music career for over the past two years.
I originally worked with Mannequin Vanity Records playing a showcase slot on somewhat short notice in an out of the way location in Manhattan in the spring of 2009. Due to MVR’s assistance with promotion of my set, I received an enthusiastic draw that I may not have otherwise had at this venue.
When I talked to Jake of MVR about recording some songs together in the summer of 2009, he didn’t realize at first that we’d be recording a full length (12 song) album in the span of 5 weeks. That included pre-​production, full band recording (drums, bass, guitars, and vocals including overdubs), mixing and mastering. A less enthusiastic, less experienced producer would have not been able to keep up with that type of pace, but somehow Jake did. All of this for a professional recording at one of the most affordable rates for recording in city.
However, once the master was in my hands, Jake and MVR didn’t disappear like most other producers I have worked with in the past. Even as MVR’s main location shifted across the country to San Diego, Jake continuously maintained our business relationship, offering solicited advice on duplication, distribution, additional album release information, as well as general industry guidance. He offered the contacts he had and has been one of my staunched supporter, helping get the album on podcasts, in the hands of music reviewers, and essentially becoming my West Coast liaison for the promotion of the record.
When we decided to have instrumentals made of the album, I trusted MVR to handle the remixes, and he didn’t disappoint. Jake has the know how to handle mixes and masters with ease and efficiency, having handled over 200 hours of mixes and masters through San Diego State, and having worked at NYU’s Steinhardt Studio. He made two separate professional sounding master recordings of a full length album in a short amount of time, and continuously surpassed the role of a traditional promoter, producer, boutique label, or whatever you might be looking for in an independent music industry representative.
