History

Established in 2003.

It all started with a move to San Diego, Ca. A fresh start if you will. In the first year of moving to a new city and new salon my time was spend working in salons in San Diego and commuting back to Los Angeles to work on photo shoots and continued to work on clients i left back home. In the mean time two extremely important friendship blossomed. One with Wander Augiar of Wander Augiar Photography and another with Brenda Swann of Swann Soirée .

Over the years i have work with Wander Augiar and many other photographers on shoots consisting of Avant Garde, Fitness, Editorial and spreads that have been published in both film and print.

In 2007 I met Brenda. A young eager wedding planner who was just making a name for herself and was on a mission to do so. She was in need of a Hair stylist and Make up artist to refer to her potential brides to and soon after mentioned i was one of her «Go to Gals «and trusted in me to take care of every bride she would introduce me to.

I am a seasoned makeup artist and licensed cosmetologist with 11 years of experience. I am well versed in all aspects of bridal, beauty, commercial, fashion, editorial, body paint, television and also provide makeup lessons.

I am a mobile Hair and Makeup Artist, depending on the size of the wedding party I can take care of everyone myself or bring along my wonderful assistants. We take pride in listening to everyone of our clients and help them look and feel as amazing as they should on their exciting day.

There isn’t a single soul on the this planet I would have trusted more with my hair and makeup for my wedding day. Every girl dreams of this day and I was no different. I wanted to look like myself but with a flawless finish. My hair is notorious for being difficult, straight as a stick and doesn’t hold a curl and thick as ever. From beginning to end, Marisa is focused on creating a professional and relaxed experience for her brides. She is prompt to respond and flexible when scheduling trials.
My first round of trials actually took place in preparation for our engagement photo shoot. The makeup was on point, so natural and flawless. The photos came out beautiful and the hair was exactly how I imagined it would be. We had a follow up trail to work out the details for the BIG day hair. In true fashion, my hair would not cooperate. Marisa was so patient and had a plan, we tried again at another trial appointment, and VIOLA! She had changed her approach and choice of tools and figured out exactly how best to curl my hair for the look and all day hold I would need. As a side note, she is great about making notes for day of execution so all the time in between trials and the big day don’t impact the end result.
The big day was finally HERE! She was an army of one and manged to get my two bridesmaids, my mom, and myself ready with ease. We had a blast all morning and it set the tone for the entire day. The morning went without a hitch and the end result was exactly as I had imagined. I am still so in love with my bridesmaid who decided a too do a beautiful braid (she’s a BRAID MASTER!) and their makeup was amazing. I almost forgot to mention that she was so kind and styled my future husband that morning as well. I simply can’t say enough wonderful things about her, she is a true master of her craft and if you’re lucky enough to book this beauty you will not be disappointed. I will be forever grateful for all her hard work.

Marisa could not have been a more perfect person to style and make me up on my big day. Marisa provided me with a full session to test hair and make up styles a few months before the wedding and gave her input on what would and would not work with my specific hair cut/​color. Marisa listened to my ideas for the look that I wanted to achieve, took photos along the way to keep track of the process. Marisa arrived on the big day ready with all the supplies at my venue ready to go. Marisa was professional and so much fun to work with. Thank you!!!

Marisa did my hair, and my bridesmaids hair and makeup for my wedding. She was fantastic from start to finish, not to mention incredibly talented, and sweet. She and her team did hair and makeup for 8 ladies and everyone looked absolutely gorgeous. Marisa even made my mother, who never wears makeup, feel very comfortable and my mother loved her hair and makeup. Marisa can do just about any look when it comes to hair. It was hard to choose a style because all 3 she did at the trail looked so good. Ultimately I went with a retro wavy look, and I received so many complements on my hair and it lasted all day and night. She really went above and beyond on the day of to make sure I was taken care of, even staying a bit later than she was required to to do some touch ups for photos. I can’t thank her enough!

Naturally curly girls! This is your hairstylist!
Marisa is incredible! I’m a curly girl and needed someone to put my curls up for my wedding. I had a heck of a time finding a hair stylist who understood that I just wanted someone to take my natural curls and style them. They all wanted to rewash and curl my hair — and I wanted my natural curls.
When I contacted Marisa I knew I had found the right person, she was super responsive via email, understood exactly what I wanted and was very reasonably priced. I set up a trial, showed her pics and she did an amazing job making my hair EXACTLY what I wanted.
She’s also the sweetest person in the world. The morning of the wedding for about an hour before everyone showed up it was just my bridesmaid, her and me and it was wonderful — she made the morning of my wedding better. She’s relaxed, fun to talk to, and of course quickly and easily made my hair look GORGEOUS!
I couldn’t recommend Marisa more! If you live in Southern California and need a fabulous stylist who will work with your natural curls LOOK NO FURTHER!

I found Marisa online after searching for weeks for a hairstylist for my wedding. Once I saw pictures of her work, I knew she would be able to create exactly what I wanted for my wedding day hair. She was always so great at getting back to me through email and text and was always available to answer any questions I had. We set up an appointment for a hair trial and at this appointment I showed her a picture of what I wanted in my hair and she created it with ease. She not only created just that one hairstyle, but she did a couple different variations of what I had showed her just to give me options and to make sure I loved what I had chosen. It was easy to book for the wedding after seeing her work done in person. On wedding day, January 3, 2015, she came to my hotel room to do my hair and it was absolutely stunning. I couldn’t have asked for a better girl to work with. Not only is she great at her job, but she is one cool chick. She’s got a great personality and a great sense of humor so she was a total joy to have around. If you’re looking for amazing hair, stop searching because Marisa is your girl!

Marisa did my wedding makeup (I am the bride, using my husband’s Unilocal account) and my mother’s in summer 2014. My husband and I live on the east coast, but were doing the wedding in my home town in San Diego. Marisa was very accommodating with our schedule, as I could only visit a few times to do all the wedding planning/​prep. We did a make up trial with her a few months beforehand. We took her time and made sure to get everything correctly. She also took pictures, which I appreciated, to remember how to do it on the day of.
On the day of the wedding, she came to my mother’s house. Marisa was prepared, on time, and a pleasure to work with. Her make up turned out exactly how I envisioned, and even better than on the trial. She had great attention to detail and asked my opinion when appropriate. She even gave me a little pot of foundation to touch up, oil absorbing wipes, and a whole lipliner pencil that perfectly matched the Mac lipstick I had bought for myself to use for the wedding. It was great to touch up and reapply throughout the day. Both my mom’s and my make up turned out very natural looking, but still exquisite, and looked great on the professional (and non professional) photos. My make up stayed on all day (from 9am in the morning) and held up during the San Diego sun for photographs, dinner, and dancing the night away. Marisa is extremely sweet, professional, and a lovely person. She made the whole make-​up and getting ready experience fun and not stressful. I highly recommend her make up services!

I had my wedding two days ago and Marisa and an assistant did the hair for me, nine bridesmaids, two moms, and two kids. She KILLED it and was able to do quality, beautiful hairdos within 5 hours. Marisa is so good at what she does. Everyone’s hair looked stunning and all the do’s stayed the same way the entire night. Never once did it feel Marisa was rushing through the process. I received several compliments and was more than pleased with the results of my wedding hair. I highly recommend Marisa to anyone wanting a great hairstylist for their wedding.

My one and only requirement for my November wedding hair stylist was that she knows/​understands curly hair. I didn’t want it to fall into the usual up do styling of straightening it or worst trying to change the curl. I’m a Curlygirl through and through and my soon to be husband wouldn’t want it any other way. My coordinator Brenda Swann referred Marisa to me and although I had interviewed several venders for various other positions before making my decision after my trial with Marissa there was only HER. For our trial I brought in a couple different pictures of curly do ideas and could not have been happier with the results. She did my makeup and transformed my hair into something even better than my Pinterest pictures. That night my fiancé and I went out dancing and put the hair to the ultimate test! Hair looked fab all night long. During the trial Marissa and I were chatty and laughing and I felt like she was a friend. A really cool hip friend who was also getting married a month before me. The morning of our wedding she showed up with an assistant and they went to work and glamorized all 7 of my bridesmaids plus my Mob and Mog. I seriously could not have been happier with my hair and a month later am still receiving compliments on how gorgeous my hair looked and how happy people were that I rocked my curls. 110% recommend her especially if you have curly thick hair! Any Curlygirl knows that Marissas are few and in between and if you find one you don’t let them go: D

This woman makes magic! She did my hair, and the hair of my three bridesmaids for my wedding in La Jolla on July 20th, as well as my airbrush makeup, and makeup for 2 of the bridesmaids, and I honestly could not have imagined a better experience. Not only did everything turn out BEAUTIFULLY (artful, flawless, intricate, beautiful), but she has the most stunning personality. Marisa, if you read this, I wanna be your friend.
She is wonderfully warm and funny, puts you at ease right away, and really listens. There is the perfect balance of open, friendly fun, and appropriate, focused professionalism. With limited time to do 7 services, she was going to have an assistant with her, but her assistant ended up unable to make it at the last minute. She was completely calm when she told me, made it absolutely no big deal, showed up a half hour early set to work, and got us all done only 15 minutes behind schedule– amazing considering how much hair we have between us!
She has a relaxed air about her that is exactly what I needed that morning, and I think what many, many other brides would appreciate as well. It is a bonus that she is also ridiculously talented. Just check out her photos for confirmation on that!
If you need someone who will come to you, just do yourself a favor, and hire her.

Marisa did my hair and two of my bridesmaids for my wedding on this past memorial day. All our hair looked fantastic that day. She was so sweet from the beginning when I first got in touch with her about the trial. She told me that we could try as many styles as I like to make sure I found the hair style that I like. She recommended me purchasing some hair extension in advance, which made my hair much fuller and added lots of volume on my wedding day. I met Marisa through my wedding planner a few months back. During our hair and makeup trial, she was easy to talk to and she was super sweet. I loved her eye for style and absolutely loved the hair styles that she tried on me.
On my wedding day, we met early in the morning (5 am-​ish?) but she brought her sweet smile and enthusiastic spirit. She and her associate chatted with us as if we’ve been friends for a long time.
Being Asian, I was a bit worried about having the moon-​shaped, dark eye shadow (like some of those Asian news reporters) or my eyes look smaller than they already are! I don’t usually wear makeup so I asked her to make me look as natural as she could.
After getting my photos from my photographers a couple weekends ago, I was amazed at her skill of making me look natural and makeup that lasted the whole day! I don’t know how she did it, but my makeup stayed on from my first photo at the Vietnamese tea ceremony in the morning to the last photo in our photobooth at the reception at night! My makeup didn’t look caked on. It just looked naturally beautiful! And the hairspray! Gosh, that hairspray is amazing too. It made my elegantly styled hair stay in place without flaking the entire day.
Many of my friends and family came up to me to tell me that I looked beautiful on our wedding day. I know that’s what people usually say when it’s your wedding day. But I FELT beautiful and comfortable that day and it was largely due to Marisa starting my morning with her sweet smile and skillful talent.

Marisa is an amazing makeup artist and hair stylist, she made me and the girls look stunning the day of my wedding. My makeup was flawless and ideal for all of the close-​ups that day. She was also able to manage my short hair. I was afraid it wasn’t going to work but Marisa did a few extensions and the end result was exactly what I was looking for. I also had a birdcage veil and she was able to replicate 1920’s look I had in mind. I highly recommend Marisa, she is not only talented but truly makes an effort to understand exactly what you’re looking for.
