This place is the best! My favorite is a California sandwich on squaw(you have to try the squaw bread!). The lunch special is a great price and the staff are always friendly. One of my favorite places to eat!

Stopped here to pick-up some sandwiches from the deli counter for a picnic in Balboa Park. I got the Christopher Columbus on squaw bread and loved it! Huge portions and freshly prepared. Very happy with their generous helping of avocado too. Lots of people were in on their lunch breaks grabbing sandwiches but the service was still quick & friendly. We will definitely be back!

Fantastic sandwiches. Such a large menu that it was hard to decide. Definitely on our list of go-to restaurants!

Normally a great place. I shop here all the time. My only warning is not to get the bbq turkey sandwich for $ 6.99. It’s literally a french roll w a two thin slices of turkey and some bbq sauce, no lettuce, no tomatoes, no onions, nothing besides a couple measly slices of turkey on bread.

This is my go to spot. Soups, sandwiches and yummy salads! During the lunch hour it gets a little crazy the parking lot is small but it’s worth the wait. Good prices and fresh food!

We haven’t tried our sandwiches yet so hopefully they are good but I felt compelled to leave a review just based on the incredible selection of pretty much everything. Beer, glass bottled sodas, wine, spirits, chips, snacks, sandwiches. You name it they not only have it but they have flavors you’ve never seen before. It was fun just walking through there and looking! If I lived around here this would no doubt be my go to spot. They also had very friendly staff with excellent customer service. You can tell it’s a locals spot. The retro vibe is awesome, no need for frills. Will report back after we taste the food.

One of the«looks can be deceiving» places to eat. You walk into a convenience/deli/liquor store and order at an outdated counter. But the food you are about to devour will be amazing. I come to the Marketplace Deli for one thing. The Breakfast Special. It is a fried egg, ham, American cheese all on top of a grilled English muffin. Best«egg McMuffin» ever! Something about the ham juices mixing with the melted cheese gets me salivating. I want to try lunch, it looks like a great menu.

I wanted something fresh and simple for lunch and this place came up when I Unilocaled what’s good nearby. It is located inside the convenience store. Don’t turn away! It’s excellent and fresh food! There are no tables so be prepared to take food to go. There are plenty of sandwiches to choose from. I ordered veggie delight on wheat bread and took it to Balboa Park right nearby. My my. It was so delicious!!! Every bite was savory. It consists of avocado, sprouts, tomato, thick slice of cheese, etc. I couldn’t tell I was missing meat. Hands down amazing sandwich. I recommend it. I wish there’s a location near me in Atlanta.

This is by far the best deli in the city. It has some of the most quality food and nothing but great service. I’m never disappointed and me and my family have been coming here for years. The staff is great and very friendly and professional. The owners do a great job to make sure your satisfied no matter what. I can’t think of another delicatessen that beats this one, it’s just one of a kind.

The Marketplace Deli blows every other deli in town out of the water. FIRST: It’s fast. Even at the peak of lunchtime rush hour, when the place is mobbed with people, I can walk right up to the counter, place my order, pick it up, and pay in under 10 minutes. The place is thoroughly staffed and runs like a well-oiled sandwich-making machine. SECOND: It’s convenient. Need a bottle of gin or a 6-pack of beer with your cold cuts? No problem, the Marketplace Deli has you covered. The staff packages up your food nicely, so you can take wherever you like — whether it’s back to the office or to a park bench in Balboa Park. It also helps that the place is bright, tidy, and completely devoid of the stereotypically skeezy liquor store vibe. THIRD: The food is delicious. My «Christopher Columbus» sandwich was piled high with fresh turkey, guacamole, Swiss cheese, and lots of other trimmings and goodies — and a pickle on the side. It was fresh and loaded with amazing flavor. My side of lemon chicken orzo soup was equally outstanding. LAST: It’s shockingly affordable. As of this writing, Marketplace Deli’s meals are something like 50% less expensive than comparable spots in town, which is probably why mobs of loyal regulars keep flocking back, day after day. As for those regulars — I think I’m one of them now!

I absolutely love this place! The deli is the reason I visit. Along with those delicious healthy huge salads for the best prices. Come around noon time for the pizza by the slice. You’ll end up getting more than just one. My go-to sandwich is the California(without sprouts) on the fattening sourdough bread option. The chicken Parmesan sandwich is really good if you want something hot. You can’t go wrong with the Meatball, pastrami, or Reuben, those are all my husband’s favorites. You’ll be full and happy! Bonus: The pickles are so good and they come in a little baggy like your Mama packed you when you were 10 years old. They even carry Hawaiian chips along with those Kettle dill pickle chips.(A lot of my pregnancy cravings came from here so yep it’s that good). At noon time, expect a lunch rush line and wait time, and parking might be limited however, people are in and out so it shouldn’t be too bad. It’s the perfect place to pick up lunch during your break. They have an amazing selection of drinks: water, juices, root beers, healthy drinks, beer, wine, and alcohol at decent prices. The customer service is always super friendly here from the deli to the cashier.

I couldn’t believe I hadn’t written a review about this liquor store-deli gem. Seriously, I wish Marketplace was right downstairs from our flat, it’s got just about everything you need in a pinch & more, and a KICK-ASS deli to boot. The store itself is a bit of a time-machine with a retro feel of the older liquor stores in the Bay Area. There is some of this evident up in the walls with words spelled out like Wine or Liquor with cool little glasses next to it. For me it’s just the little things, the details; some people will never get it, the ones that do understand. The service here is always TOP-NOTCH, friendly and full-service. Half their store is a deli and well ran one at that, tons of hot or cold sandwiches to choose from. In the end-cap of the deli-case, homemade macaroni & potato style salads with stuffed baked potatoes, across from that is a hip-high open-reach in cooler with pre-made salads from Greek to Cobb and back. It’s organized here. When you order your sandwich the employee takes your name & order on the bag. Straight old world style, they verify it and yell the order to the sandwich-chef, it gets done with urgency, none of this fiddle-fucking around and touching an iPad and still getting the wrong sandwich. Then when it’s ready they will shout out your name, boom done. Snacks and«crack-seed» galore, you won’t have a problem finding your favorite soda or chips here, it’s all present. Their wine selection is solid and there is more beer than you could ever choose from. Soda, they have plenty of throw-backs and vintage with a ton of small batch in glass containers. Can’s, bottles, medio-litres, large bottles, singles, six-packs, rare bottle format… you name it, this place doesn’t fuck around with their soda, one word that comes to mind, PRIDE. I always chat with the owner and I even own a classic market place t-shirt, how couldn’t I? Visit this joint as it’s one of the last of its kind. Great deli food and classic liquor store experience.

While there isn’t an expansive list of eateries to choose from near work, I LOVE that Marketplace is nearby with seemingly endless options for lunchtime, or just snack-time! They make remarkable sandwiches, soups and salads. Can’t speak to the pizza yet, though, because I’ve not tried it yet. They’ve also got a great selection of beer, which is super convenient, because we have happy hour at work on occasion and sometimes I pick up a brew or two to take home for me and the hubs. Along with their great offerings of foods and libations, is a wonderfully pleasant staff. Even when this place turns into chaos at lunchtime they’re all smiles and get people out as quickly as possible. Marketplace is a great small business I am all about supporting!

Saw all the high Unilocal reviews and this was near the airport so decided to check it out. Extra points that they have a small parking lot since the area gets really crowded and hard to find a spot. I was a little surprised at how amazing the sandwiches are here to be honest when I walked in. It was a convenience store with a deli you order to go. Got the popular Christopher Columbus($ 6) which was packed with turkey, Swiss cheese, avocado. It was AMAZING. I really don’t eat that many sandwiches but this was way above average and nothing about it I didn’t love. I will definitely come back again to get this. 5 stars just for this! My boyfriend got the Reuben sandwich — it was piping hot and pretty good but I liked the turkey sandwich so much better. Awesome place to grab a quick lunch! The menu is huge so there’s definitely something here for everyone.

Perfect place to grab sandwiches for a little picnic at Balboa park! It’s right across the street, and a very short walk. My boyfriend and I did exactly this on a really hot day a few weeks ago and it was a perfect date! Grab a few snapples, a bag of chips, and a few sandwiches and you’ve got yourself a solid lunch. This isn’t at all a place to sit down(not even outside the store) and eat, definitely to-go only. Because it’s a grocery shop, you can get things for a regular price. We had the Christopher Columbus, and the Californian with all the regular fixings on sourdough. I think next time I would ask for no mayo(but I rarely eat mayo), but it was worth trying with all the toppings for the first visit. You need to know what you want to order before you step up to the counter, but they’re very helpful if you don’t! You get to pick your bread — so make sure to check the list that they have before ordering!
