Have always had positive experiences with Dr. Marquez and the front office staff. I rarely have experienced any difficulties with scheduling appointments and if you show up early with an appointment, they get to you swiftly. Dr. Marquez is excellent at what he does, polite and welcoming.

Dr Marquez seems to be a really good doctor. Super nice guy, great bedside manner and knows his stuff, however his front office is incompetent and lazy.
It’s pulling teeth to get a referral (been waiting almost a week now since I saw the doctor) and they always seems behave an excuse.
I would give Dr. Marquez a five star rating hands down if his front office wasn’t so horrible. My wait last week was over an hour to even see him and the follow up is non existent. It’s extremely frustrating to me that lazy people like this make me want to go to another doctor all together and a shame for dr Marquez because I’m sure these people cost him money.
I wish that Dr. Perry Sexton had an office in San Diego. He was my primary care physician when I lived in north county and not only was he awesome but his staff was rad and his office was pretty swanky. Given my experiences with other doctors down here I’m almost mad at dr. Sexton for spoiling me with excellent customer service and running his business the way someone should.
If time isn’t an issue and rude, lazy people don’t bother you, Dr. Marquez’s office is you’re place because again, he really is a good doctor. If you need to see someone and have responsive people help you, I would consider looking elsewhere.

After one appointment, which ended with a «let me check on that and call you next week» I have since found it impossible to contact the people there. I have called and left several messages with a very clear explanation of what my needs were and months have gone by with no response. A Doctors job is to help people, therefore this is a horrible doctor. If his office can’t return a simple phone call, they are not responsible enough to deal with people’s health. Way unacceptable. He might let you die.

I have been so happy with Dr. Luis Marquez that after not having seen him for years due to loss of my medical insurance, I sought him out again when I regained medical insurance.
I notice that other reviewers are often negatively rating not him specifically but rather UN-​related things such as the parking problems in the area of his office, even though such parking problems are the NORM downtown.

In from out of town and went to Unilocal for help. At Dr. Marquez office my vitals were taken by a sweet young woman who admitted to me she couldn’t get into Junior College. I was then seen by Dr. Marquez’ physician asst. Jorge Zarate. At the pharmacy I discovered he had prescribed a medication, Erythromycin, that 1 hour earlier I had listed as something to which I was severely allergic on my intake sheet. I am not using hyperbole when I say going to this office may put your life at risk, as it did mine.

BE PREPARED TO PAY FOR PARKING. You would think with such an inconvenient building with 6 parking spots (full by 830am), that they would tell their new patients to bring change to park. After circling for 15 minutes I had to cancel my appointment because who carries change on them anymore? It is so irresponsible of the staff not to educate their new patients for a better experience.

Wildly underwhelmed. And, to be honest, I’m not even positive that it was actually Dr. Marquez that I saw because he shares space/​reception with another doctor. In fact, now that I think about it, I pretty sure I did see the other doctor, Jorge something or other.
The staff is friendly enough, I guess, but not particularly helpful about figuring out insurance and referrals and such, and it’s difficult to schedule appointments. Also, there’s a severe lack of attention to detail; on one visit they started doing a physical even though I’d just had one a few weeks prior and on another visit the date on my paperwork was wrong and I had to wait for them to mail me the correction.
On more than one occasion, a drug was prescribed or a procedure recommended that didn’t seem necessary at all.
Also, I don’t think this is Dr. Marquez’s staff, but the doctor who has reception staff across the room from his was acting extremely unprofessionally during my first visit. It was first thing in the morning and there weren’t many patients in the waiting area so maybe they didn’t realize I could hear them loudly laughing and cursing, but regardless, it was inappropriate behavior.
Lucky for me I don’t really get sick and only need to go to the doctor for my annual visits…

This review is only for the appointment process, seeing as how I never got to see the doctor because after calling during business hours, over ten times, and leaving approximately six messages, I never got a call back. I will be calling my insurance, letting them know, and finding a new PCM.

Pretty solid doctor, Excellent staff. he’s funny and obviously knows what’s up.
My only complaint (super minor) is that he seems to be in a rush sometimes toward the end of the appointment, but that is probably because of the next patient awaiting his medical knowledge
