McClintock Warehouse Lofts

Being from the northeast and loving the big city vibe that San Diego fails to deliver, I was looking for a true loft style apartment to rent when moving back downtown from the suburbs. McClintock is a brand new building (just opened for its first tenants in October 2012) right between Little Italy, the Embarcadero, and steps from San Diego’s Gaslamp district. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this remarkable location during a Saturday open house with only 6 units left!
The best part about the building is that it is brand new. Well, the building itself is rather old and all the original exposed piping and cement work is intact… Anyway, every resident is the first one to live in their apartment and you can’t beat that. There are 5 residential floors with 9 lofts on each floor which makes for an incredibly close-​knit and friendly community – something that is lacking in every other apartment building in downtown San Diego. Each unit has a unique floor plan, all of the appliances are new, and the modern kitchen is a nice touch set against the exposed concrete floors and ceilings.
The property managers, Trilogy Management, are dedicated and responsive to the tenants’ needs. They have been in the business for quite awhile and know what they are doing. Kudos.
Because this place is EXACTLY what I was looking for, I want to give it 5 stars, but there are two minor cons that are making it only 4…
There are no included amenities at the building. There are quite a few gyms within walking distance and there are also dry cleaners across the street, but no services at McClintock. The units do not have thier own washer and dryer – there are two washers and two dryers on each floor and are coin operated. Not a huge issue as they are NEVER crowded, just would enjoy the convenience of personal laundry machines. Also, the attached parking garage, while an amazing luxury for this location, is incredibly small and the spaces are awkward. I have seen large SUV’s get stuck trying to go to certain floors. Everyone pretty much has the hang of it now, but test your car before paying for a spot. Again, these few cons are not deal breakers by any means, but the additions/​corrections would make this an easy 5 star living destination.
Overall, I have been more than happy with my choice to rent at McClintock. The lobby and common areas on each floor are modern and chic, the historic building is awesome, the industrial feel reminds me of New York City, the residents are friendly, and the management company is winning with this place! Highly recommended. if you can get the current tenants to break their leases…
