This guy doesn’t even get one star he is the worst! Nice enough guy but shady as hell. I have been audited twice 2011 and 2012. I’m still dealing with The IRS today. His business should be shut down.

Only giving a star to post. Beware!!! Do not ever go here you will be audited!!! And then Toby and staff will ignore you at all costs! I know 5 others who have also gone here and were audited!!! He’s a sneak!

I can not catch up, your criminal activity is still following me… you deserve something bad, like really bad. Your sign is inviting people into your business, if they only knew they are being invited into a hell hole… why did she birth you???

yet an other tax adjustment for 2011. after the IRS it is not the franchise tax board that has decided to burry me. Thank you Tobi for screwing me over… $ 1203 before Christmas. no really… fuck you.

Toby makes it happen. Not your typical safe and boring HR block office. He looks like Elton John and the office is more professional.

I would give zero stars if possible. Like many have stated, my boyfriend was also audited for I believe 2010-​11, owing more that 5k. I always wondered if there was something dishonest about the business, but I didn’t look much into it when it actually happened. I started looking into again recently, and found out that MANY people have been in the same situation! This guy needs to be liable and responsible for all of the money that everyone has been ordered to pay! He should go to jail for tax fraud. Going to a tax service business, people go in trusting them to do their taxes correctly, and more importantly, doing them honestly! My boyfriend will be filing a complaint with the IRS like many others have already done. I’m shocked this guy is still in business! I hope karma hits him in the face with a boulder, cause he surely deserves whatever is coming his way!

Yep, Toby has done a lot of us wrong, and caused many of us unnecessary stress and hardships. I was a retired teacher and I am trying to do the right thing by paying my taxes. I have gone back to work hoping to get out of debt with the IRS, but I am getting penalized more for making too much money, LOL. I owe the IRS over $ 10,000.00 since I was audited for 2010, 2011 and 2012. Thank goodness I went to someone else in 2013. Can anyone please help all of us?

It occurred to me that I never followed up on this review. And I should.
A little bit about my now-​resolved IRS audits, without getting into too much detail…
I felt stupid, used, naïve. Sure, I was happy with this firm when I was under the impression my sizable tax returns were legit. Not the case, it turns out. For example, former employee Cheryl wrote off my commuting mileage, something that can only be done in certain circumstances that don’t apply to me, and also failed to complete the proper paperwork for my home office even though we thoroughly discussed all things associated with my being an employee who works from home full-​time; there was actually no proof in my 2011 tax return that I worked from home at all! This and a number of other «errors» in my tax preparations point to a conclusion: some accountants will break all kinds of tax rules to secure big returns for clients. Big returns generally equal return business and good Unilocal reviews, after all.
Tax prep is a rare instance where I pay and trust an expert to take care of something I don’t know much about. I should have better educated myself. A lesson learned.
Of course this establishment, despite its guarantee policy (scanned and uploaded for reference), went radio silent when it came time to reimburse me a relatively measly ~$ 1,000. No luck – and no surprise – there.
I’ll leave with this, a quote from a CPA who reviewed my audited tax returns:
«The CPA who signed this should be shot.»

I was just informed that I am getting audited again because of this horrible person! 2010, 2011, and 2012! Thank god I did my own taxes for 2013 so now the bleeding will stop. I owe over $ 5,000 to the IRS because of this crook!
He does your taxes in front of you and just chats away while he’s typing away. Then he sends the completed taxes in right in front of you. Sounds great, right? Well, he puts deductions on your taxes that you don’t know about and then poof! You’re being audited .
Then you spend months calling and emailing without a response.
Do yourself a favor and font consider this crook as your tax preparer !
He’s a shady crook!

Just to tack it on. This guy will screw you over! You will get audited. Thanks for nothing Toby.

I began doing business with Toby when he was with H&R Block. I was satisfied with the return he filed on my behalf, and when he opened his own business I followed him and filed returns there for several more years. Toward the end of 2012 I received notice that my 2011 return was being audited. I had no idea what was ahead of me. I believed that since I had paid an (ahem) professional to file my return I would be fine.
It seems my experience since then has been similar to many others. I have received no support from Toby’s office, have had three appointments cancelled, and recently my wife has left messages for him every day for two months that have not been returned. I went to the office to investigate and discovered most of the furniture packed up. The woman I spoke to said they were downsizing the office, and that they were unable to pay the interest and penalties accrued as a result of the inaccurate return because they are under investigation by the IRS and their assets have been frozen. Nevermind the $ 4000 plus I am now obligated to pay the IRS
If you have not used this business before and are considering doing so, please save yourself. They will ruin your life. Read others’ reviews here, look them up on the Better Business Bureau’s website (spoiler alert, they have an «F» rating and have stopped responding to the BBB’s inquiries regarding complaints), and watch the following 10 news story about a woman who suffered a fate even worse than mine:

OMG! I got audited too! I didn’t know anything was wrong after filing here and getting a lot more money than usual back. I should’ve looked over my return. Yes, I got the money and spent it. But I shouldn’t be responsible for paying it back. Toby and his people lied on the returns. So they should pay it back plus the penalties and interest.

We were referred to Toby by a friend, back in 2011. He has personally done our taxes for 3 years and has done a great job with our complicated situation (home business, w2, child, home credits, etc). He is always friendly, very knowledgable, and has consistently found us a better return than the online tax services. We have never been audited, even with our crazy situation, and he has given good advice on how to avoid an audit in the first place.
In fact, we drive an hour to his office because he has always done such a good job. We’ve talked about finding someone closer to home but, he understands our tax service needs and is a pleasure to work with.

This is the WORST business I have ever had to deal with. I am being audited because of taxes that I filed with them in 2010!
Apparently they submitted my filing with faulty information. Now I have to provide to the IRS documents that prove that I was in school! I didn’t even go to school that year!
I now owe over $ 2000 because I was fooled by Toby Tax.
Everyone I had sent to Toby as a referral have now been audited. STAY AWAY!

Audited for both years I went here. That was back in 2010 and 2011. Now I am pretty much broke because I have given so much back to the IRS… but at least I know better and I go to a REPUTABLE tax preparer. They may be a bit more conservative, but at least they’re ethical and respect legal standards. I will NEVER go to TobyTax or McDanial Tax again and I have warned many people about them.

Toby always got me amazing tax return money. That is until I was being audited for 2010 tax. I came to find out everything Toby was writing off; was not allowed to be written off. I had to pay the IRS $ 3500 back!
Then I was audited for 2011 and sure enough, it was wrong. Im still waiting for that IRS bill to come in.
He wrote off mileage, said I went to school when I didn’t and much more. DO NOT GO TO HIM! HE IS A FRAUD AND YOU WILL BE AUDITED!

I got audited for 2010 and now over 2500 because Toby fraudulently claimed school credits. Run the other way and don’t listen to any crap that Toby McDaniel just stated on his response. They are all just excuses.

OMG! I have gone to McDaniel Tax & Administrative services since 2008. I received a notice from the IRS earlier this week regarding unreimbursed business expenses & american opportunity credits claimed on my 2011 & 2012 tax returns. I have no idea what that even is! I went by the office and spoke to Toby personally and he said he would follow up with me in a few days. I’ve heard nothing & left messages but no answer. I’ve read the other posts and assume that he will blow me off. I did speak with the IRS today and they suggested that I report him. Has anyone had any luck resolving returns with the IRS? Or do you get stuck with the penalties no matter what?

If I can give them zero stars I would! I wish I read these reviews before I did my taxes last year with them. Toby himself did my taxes and I got audited. He put down that both me and my daughter were in college for some American Opportunity credit. First off, my daughter at the time was in high school and I haven’t been in school in almost 20 years! I had to pay 2,000 plus almost 1,000 in penalty fees. They don’t return calls or emails. I have been waiting since April for them to reimburse me for the penalty fees. What I recommend is call the IRS and report them for tax fraud! They should be ashamed of themselves and be put out of business!
