Mint

Called at 5:17 to ask when they planned on closing tonight (since the last time we tried to come here it was closed even though their business profile on Google said they’d be open). The employee said 7 PM. We got there at 5:47 and there was a sign on the door saying they were on «lunch» break until 6:15. First of all, who takes a lunch break until 45 minutes before close? Second, why wouldn’t you tell the person calling you were about to take a long break? This was the second time this store shows very poor customer service which, after reading the reviews on here, seems common for this place. Do yourself a favor, don’t waste your time here.

Great selection of shoes but terrible service! Not only did the guy working not greet us when we walked in, but he made both my sister and me feel as though we were unwelcome. Even when we went to the counter (to purchase shoes that he didn’t help or even offer to help us find) he continued to be rude and dismissive. It sucks because the selection of shoes was awesome, but because of the service, I’ll never spend my money there again. I expect better customer service here in Hillcrest.

Not open during hours posted. Disappointed as I came to this neighborhood specifically to shop here.

I have been to this store a few times with friends. Cool shoes, fair prices, and a great location. Was looking forward to buying a couple of pairs of shoes for an upcoming trip to Europe. Unfortunately the store was not open during the posted business hours, myself and five other customers (including someone who drove from Oceanside) were all waiting outside and finally left. Can’t imagine how someone can stay in business operating like that.

This place is pretty cool. Their shoes are awesome looking and definitely in style. But they are all fairly uncomfortable. The dressier shoes are hard as rocks. Similar to mens shoes from the 20’s or 30’s. This is 2014, Cant they make them cozy right off the shelf? And because of that, I believe they are overpriced. I’ll stick with buying shoes online. I will go on saying Their sign out front is funny at times. But unless you’re a girl who loves shoes and buys more than she ever wears. The funny sign will be the best part.

Worst experience in a boutique in a very long time. Woman working there was extremely pushy, selection was cute but they have NO sizes available. Prices of an upscale boutique with the service of a huge retail store (horrible.) all in all, worst of both worlds, not worth going to – try urban outfitters or buffalo exchange down the street.

Pleasantly surprised. Not a store I’d ever go to unless someone brought me. They have a very respectable selection. Prices were much better than expected and the guy working was charismatic and friendly.

A good place to find charming shoes that is hard to find elsewhere.

Super fun eclectic mix for affordable prices. But if you’re looking for long-​lasting quality, this is not the place to look.

I like coming to the mint for different kinds of shoes and design this place has pretty much everything I could think of when it comes to styles the prices are fare and they always have great deals there service is good! The best thing about this place is the sizes, they always have my size

To the girl with the dreads (only joking) and dirty neon sneakers – thank you for making my shoe shopping experience entertaining and enjoyable. I love interacting with people who smile and seem like they’re genuinely enjoying themselves.

Fun, cute shoe store, very mod and minty! They should sell mojitos as well, is a suggestion, people will be even more attracted to enter there! Nice selection of sneakers, colorful like the ones I like… but a little on the high pricing, which is understandable as is a small business, and there are not many shoe stores out there. I liked several sandals today but didn’t end up buying as my size was not available. But will go back and keep checking some awesome shoes.

Mint Shoes has amazing fresh kicks, and an always friendly staff, especially Nancy! There are killer signs that always make me laugh, or think… or both. They might be a bit more expensive than the internet, but convenience trumps cost in my book. Don’t forget, you’ve invested your time and the cost of gas etc to come to the shop… Most likely, there will be shipping charges and/​or tax applied to the internet sale. If you like the kicks and the service you’ve received, buy the shoes right then!!!
FYI people; if it’s not obvious, let me lay it out for you… if y’all keep window shopping at these small local shops, and purchasing off the internet, these fun shops will close permanently…

I love Mint and make it a point to stop by whenever I’m in San Diego. In total I’ve spent approximately $ 500 over the years. I’m in town and planning my shopping agenda. I won’t be visiting Mint. The rude responses left by Justin are inexcusable. If Mint folds, the fault lies with you. Lighten up! They’re shoes!

Didn’t buy anything, but really liked the selection, hip and funky shoes. The staff didn’t fawn over us, they weren’t rude, I’m guessing if I said, «Hey, I want to try on a shoe,» they would have helped.

Between my wife and I, we have bought about a half dozen pairs of shoes from Mint over the previous 2 years. I don’t foresee us adding to that collection though.
Mint… their selection is decent but expect to pay mid to high price tags on that selection.
Prices or selections is not the reason for us not returning. Honestly, it is the return policy. Mint, being a smaller, independent business, has a strict return policy… no returns allowed. In our current economic and customer-​focused state, I don’t agree with this policy; but I will accept it. Placing the ‘No returns accepted” statement in small print on your receipt though is not the best way to communicate this rare and unusual retail policy.
That needs to be fixed.
Recently we tried taking back a pair of brand new shoes. My wife bought the shoes 5 days prior (along with another pair). Hadn’t even taken them out of the box when she decided to take them back. After asking the clerk to return the pair for store credit, he looks at the pair of shoes, then at our receipt and says, «We don’t accept returns that were on sale.» Yes the shoes were on sale, but no where do I see a policy that says I can’t bring a BRAND NEW pair of shoes back for store credit.
I guess I can be glad that I didn’t receive store credit because now I don’t have to return.

Ooooooooh… super fresh kicks! Yeah, the shoes here are super different and fun. I love that they have so much personality! Craaaaaaaaazy platform shoes that are all studded out in the style of the season. Adorable flats that don’t look quite like anyone else’s.
I recommend you visit!

Used to love this store, I have many fun shoes from here, sadly the last half dozen times I’ve gone in they don’t have my size anymore. Ok, you are an independent retailer, I understand not having all sizes available…
My other gripe is their sticker system, they explain how it works… if your size is not crossed off, we have it. Except the last three times, sticker says you do… then you don’t. What was fun was hearing the same apology for the customer in front of me, «sorry the tag lied».
Get it together Mint, you were one of my favorite stores in hillcrest.

While the minty-​fresh green exterior is what gives Mint its name, this is a place to buy shoes, not mojitos. Mojitos would be found elsewhere in the neighborhood. But I digress.
Mint may be small, but the shoe selection is freakin’ amazing. Name a brand, and they’ll have it. Plenty of the usual sneakers (think Nikes, Adidas, Converses) but also more styley brands (Onitsuka Tigers). Plenty of other brands that I’d never heard of, too.
The unique selection here evokes something you’d find on Melrose Ave in LA more than on University Ave in Hillcrest — and that, in my opinion, is a very good thing.
Price-​wise, I’d say Mint is pretty typical of boutique shopping. Most items are at the retail price, but there always seems to be some kind of sale going on. I’ve found good deals before, but don’t count on finding one. Persistence is key.
The only reason I don’t shop here more often is that they don’t usually carry my size in the styles that I like. (And yes, I usually do ask to see if they have any more in the back.)
Damn my size-11.5 ogre-​feet. In frustration, I will now go on a violent ogre-​like rampage all over San Diego. Or something. Grrrrrrr.
