They are super knowledgable and friendly! They understood what my needs were and what exactly I was expecting from my new bike! They take full responsibility of making sure the bike was perfect for me before I took it home. They even change a tire because the old one was bad for free! I am about 5 ft 1in and narrow shoulders. They measured the length from shoulder to shoulder and was able to order a new handle for me in less than 2 weeks! Also, I received 10% on all accessories the day I bought my bike! Great customer service and a warm experience here!

I had the pleasure of dealing Scott over the phone. I’m fairly new to SD and don’t have many bike friends, but was lucky enough to have a neighbor who recommended this shop. I gave them a call to inquire about a bike I wanted from Transitions bikes and Scott told me he could order one from the company for me. He was cool, helpful, and I’m extremely happy with the service I received thus far. I’m glad I found my go to LBS.

I recently joined the «no car, bike club» in San Diego & have been learning the in’s & out’s of bikes as ones main form of transportation (which can be un expectantly annoying & expensive to say the least). I’ve been jipped a couple times at other well known, local ‘community’ focused bike shops but finally have stumbled upon a shop in their integrity! MJ’s provides excellent service, education & are patient with new bike owners! :) Scott was awesome! He gave me a great deal as well as being suuper patient, kind & informative on how to avoid previous issues I’ve encountered. Defiantly my go to bike shop in San Diego from now on!

These guys got my mtn bike rolling buttery smooth last minute before a trip for a great price and they’re just cool people who love the sport. They were helpful, extremely knowledgable and clearly passionate about what they do. I was referred by a friend and now I’ve referred two others — this is how the good guys win ;). Now if only I could get an espresso from that bitchen machine…

I brought my bike in to have them take a look at my gears who were shifting on their own. The technician (don’t know his name) examined my bike and explained that it was a simple fix (screw tightening) and showed me how to care for it so I didn’t have to come back in. He also explained how my gears changed – because I have an 80s bike – and how my shifter loosens up over time. He also lubed my chain and cleaned it. I know that all these things are small but he was not going to charge me at all when I feel a lot of places would. The fact that he spent some time with me to explain how my bike works and how I could maintain it made me feel great and not look some idiot who didn’t know about bikes. Very, very nice and very helpful.

I brought my bike in recently with a flat tire and they changed it while sharing some info on products, etc. And then the same tire went flat this week and they inspected it and felt it might have been a manufacturer defect and so they changed the tire and did not charge me at all — not for parts nor service.
This is an outstanding and fair shop with knowledgable and passionate people working there. I love this place!

Jess, gets my vote for bike shop of the year. So knowledgeable, great service and fair pricing. She took in my old rusty cruzin Trek bike and overhauled it, inside out. It rides so much smoother, shifts without breaking my wrist, and is a joy to ride again. Even removed many rusty parts. Highly recommend her to fix, repair or service high end bikes, to economy bikes. Cool shop, well run. Go see Jessica. Stay safe! Later…

Looking in through the plate glass window you can always see people scattered about; even congregating next to each other at the busiest times, with their faces lit up from the business side of an iridescent computer; or fumbling about with the latest mechanism. I heard about this cool coffee shop and decided to check it out.
There are random products scattered around the counter from horrible looking cookies under scrunched layers of plastic film, to bagged chips and candies. Why would you display bike parts next to your bundt cake? It’s a weird theme for a coffee shop. You feel like you’re waiting in line at an independent gas station. The walls are lined with those small items we all need, but don’t want at the time. You have to wade past a sea of bicycles to get to the counter. The music blaring forth is usually loud and uninspiring. The coffee, I hear is mediocre at best. Sure they have an unusual array of portable stoves to cook in — I think that’s their catch — and an impressive espresso machine loitering about. However, I never quite make it to the coffee when I go in here. This is not your typical coffee shop. I’d say these guys are better at turning wrenches. Which is what they do really well.
This place is what the trendy hipsters in San Francisco wish they could be. Funky odd building, funky furniture, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the guy wrenching on the bikes may have made himself a Frankenbike at one point in his life. As for the wrenching, this is one of the best shops I’ve ever been to. They care about you and your safety and will outright fix your shit the right way. I’m a very knowledgeable cyclist for sure, but I’m no expert and can’t go on and on about the «well balanced and trued wheel» or can’t tell you about the finer differences between the feel of a Shimano 105 and Ultegra group set, or crap like that. However, what I am qualified to say is MJ’s is a shop that I would drive across town to, if I wasn’t close enough to cycle to. Jessie and Scott operate a damn respectable business and I recommend them to everyone I know in the area.

Over the course of two weeks, I had three issues with my bike — a tire that caused a flat four times, a broken lock, and a busted break line. Each time I went into MJ’s, the staff talked to me immediately, gave me great advice that considered my needs and my wallet, and helped me make decisions with honest and thoughtful suggestions. MJ’s is exactly the kind of independent, local, and service-​oriented shop that I like to patronize, and I think you will, too. So get to MJ’s for your repair, service, and bike shopping needs!

Not surprised this place is 5 stars and i wish i’d have discovered it sooner. owners/​staff are great people and really help you try to save money (like replace a hose as opposed to buying a new pump). they’ll do quick minor things for free and really seem more keen on educating and helping riders than making money. they let you use their pumps for free anytime. i got a 5% discount for riding my bike into the shop.

I thought my bike, which had been laying dormant for a few years, was in worse shape than it was. These guys were great about not doing more than was needed and doing it in a timely manner.

Had THE BEST experience here yesterday.
Received exemplary service from a trio of friendly bike experts: Scott, Jacob, and «Jessie» (subbing for therealJessie who was out of town).
Brought in a bike my sister had left behind while she is traveling in New Zealand, needing to get regular pedals put on it instead of clip pedals. I am not a rider by any means, but the bike was there in dad’s garage, and I wanted to make use of it.
Scott got us all set with some great bright green pedals, helped me figure out if the size was right (taught me how to properly stand over a bike), and even tilted up the handlebars a bit.
We were in and out well within the 46 minutes that had come free on the meter. Thank you world!
The best part was that while we there, «Jessie» made a suggestion of putting on brakes in the top middle of the handlebar. I said I wanted to see if I could even ride the thing yet. We took it to Lake Murray, and as I was going around, sure enough, I thought man, it would be good to have some brakes up top here. Also, as we were finishing up Scott mentioned that we would need to replace the wraps on the handlebars. Sure enough they unraveled as I was going around the lake. In my mind, MJ’s Cyclery knows what they are talking about.
Definitely left the shop with as Scott said, «a happy bike» and a happy newbie rider. See photo for the joy that going to this shop brings its lucky patrons.

I’ve been in twice now, and the service is above and beyond!
The first time I was in, I got an overall «Deluxe» tune, a new front brake cable, and a few other bits. On the day of pick-​up, my bike caused a few complications which pushed back the time I could come get it. I can’t remember the name of the gentleman who worked with me, but he was kind enough to stay after closing for me to come get it once it was ready. I was definitely a happy camper!
Today, visit #2, I bought a new saddle. Not only did I learn new information about bike seats, but I learned some new tidbits on seat height and the importance of correct tire pressure! Like I said, super friendly and informative staff. You can tell they care about their work and their customers! I would definitely recommend this shop for your cycling needs. :)

Great service and very fair prices!

Jess & Scott are tremendous advocates for not just the sport of bike (on & off road) but all levels of riders with their individual needs. They specialize in rider education (on and off bike/​on & off road) and can answer everyone’s questions. They’ve been around the industries long enough and have tested so much of what’s out there that you can be sure to get the best bang for your buck.
They literally saved my butt from a horrible seat I didn’t pick for myself on my recent trip there. We covered biking routes, biking attire, and test rode seats to get the right fit! Plus, they offered other suggestions to help my commute and my bike that I didn’t even think to ask.
They will even show you how to perform basic maintenance on your bike too!

They don’t like to be rushed, but I can see why. They do great work. Didn’t even know my bike could feel this good.
Scott said he wasn’t satisfied with how my rear wheel was spinning after he worked on it, so he didn’t charge the $ 15 originally estimated. Not often where your price drops without asking for it.
I’ll keep supporting them and recommending them.

I stumbled into this shop the other day to see what was up. It’s a super friendly commuter biking shop is what’s up. More styles of panniers and commuter biking accessories than I’ve ever seen in one room. And nothing looks like you need to be sponsored to use it or is lacking in current bike style and with good prices too. They’ve got new and used bikes and are all-​around helpful people. Just what you want out of a neighborhood bike shop.
Also, they do bike evaluations and tuneups for the best prices I’ve found anywhere, same for the merchandise, which is saying a lot for a local bike shop.

Cutest bike shop I’ve been in. The owners know their shit and don’t overwhelm you with jargon or unnecessary «fixes». They have a great clothing selection too!
Staff– Amazing. The co-​owners Jes and Scott run the store and are so friendly and funny.
Plus– they made me an espresso while I waited for my bike tune up! (Score!!!)
