Momma’s Jamaican Food

Man where do i start. I ordered a curry goat about a month ago for delivery and no lie I’ve waited 4 hours! The driver didn’t know what he was doing and didn’t call me and want back to the shop and tried again. Mind you it’s only 20 minutes ago.
When i called to order the curry goat beef patty and ine wig the dude had to call me back to give me a price and that took 20 minutes! Being that the driver took long she gave him a curry chicken and another patty.
NOW: the patty was disgusting. I am from jamaica and lived on the east coast. It taste homemade. The curry goat was salty. The curry chicken was pink on some piece’s. Curry goat was cold of course and needed some more flavor.
I called yesterday to try out the curry goat again because when i ordered it first it was at night. And i got no answer in the afternoon and i called twice. Business is horrible. I need to go back home and get some good food

So amazing! The curried oxtail is the bizness! & all the different Wing flavors rock my world!

Mama Jamaica served some really tasty food and her infamous sauce was to die for. Her Oxtail & Goat was on point, it wasn’t too much bones like other places I have tried. Also this place is hidden in a market in case you try looking for it. Bring cash only, unless you want to pay a $ 2 debit fee. Will definitely be back!

It was delicious until I had a piece of hair in my food. :/​My hair is red so I know it wasn’t mine. Very upsetting. Hair nets should be required at every place food is prepared.

I felt like I was back in Jamaica! I’ve been craving jerk chicken since I left and tried a few places but nothing could hang til Mommas. Oooo baby it’s soooo gooood! The hospitality is amazing and the food. Gurl. The food. So bomb!
Jerk sauce is on point! I will be a regular for sure!

This place is a little precarious, sitting behind the meat counter in a small market. The cute kid behind the counter does his best to take your order. The wait time is pretty short for a delicious made to order dinner. We both had a version of jerk chicken which was nice and spicy.
All in all, do not let looks deceive you. This place is a small diamond in the rough. The prices have gone up from the pictures posted but it is still very reasonably priced.

I ordered curry goat and jerk chicken delivery. When it came, I only received the jerk chicken. I called about the missing goat and the woman on the phone was very polite and offered a replacement right away. The new entre came right array with an extra entre to spare. The food was delicious! The best I’ve had since I’ve visited Jamaica a few years ago. I will be ordering again!!!

I never had the food here but its inside a convienence store mixed with a deli and metro pcs… I live nearby so I see the lady cook stuff in the back of the building… It’s gross… When UR ordering she’s cooking t outside in a grill or whatever she’s
Cooking in but that’s unsanitary ! Sorry but idk how the food is but I wouldn’t eat there seeing that lol.

I’ve been back a few times since orginal review and each time it gets more disappointing. some things changed the rice was less tender with less coconut flavor. The goat was slightly chewy and the cabbage was crunchy.
I recommended this place to a friend who got oxtail and said the same thing :(
I got a beef patty price unknown and large curry goat 13 and was told it was 17 but was charged 18.
I had to exchange the beef patty because it was over cooked they replaced it with 2 which was nice. I will give it one more chance because it used to be really really good and I hope things go back to normal.

There seems to be a common theme among the reviews for Momma’s… 1) food is amazing and 2) they are ALWAYS late when ordering delivery!
My company placed an order for about 100 people to have the food delivered to our building at 11:15a… fast forward an hour and a half and the food finally arrives. I don’t know about you, but when your Outlook has a calendar event for a «going away party» at 12p… EVERYONE in the building gathers around ON TIME to eat! So needless to say, when the food showed up an hour and a half late, we had a lot of disappointed hungry individuals… BUT…
The food was amazing! We ordered Jerk Chicken (nice spices and a great kick!), Curry Chicken (potatoes were perfectly cooked), Stir fried cabbage, Rice, and plantains. Again, everything was good. Just minus 1 star due to the tardiness (I mean, I know you all run on Jamaican time. but an hour and a half. really?!)

NEVER ORDER DELIVERY FROM THIS PLACE!
HORRIBLE ATTITUDES, FOOD JUST DOESN’T SHOW UP, NO APOLOGIES (AND NO LUNCH)
I ordered delivery from this place at 1:45pm. The estimated delivery time was 2:50pm, which seemed excessive to begin with, but I was hungry and working, so I just dealt with it.
2:50pm rolls by… nothing. 3:20 rolls by… nothing. 3:40 rolls by… nothing. I called to check and the lady that answered the phone was a B! TCH. She just picked up the phone, started talking to someone else on her end for almost a minute, then asked «What do you want?» That’s a nice way to answer the phone at a business.
I told her I was calling to check on my food and she cut me off mid-​sentence and said «What did you order?» The jerk chicken, I told her. «It’s already there,» she says. Apparently not, or I wouldn’t be calling. She then says the driver is late because of traffic. That doesn’t explain why it’s 2 hours from when I ordered and there’s no food here. I was told it would be there by 4:00pm.
As I write this, it is now 4:30pm and still no food. They sure were happy to take my money, but no food. I’m told the delivery driver couldn’t read my address on the receipt (how is that my problem?) but that she left around 3:30pm with my food. So I’m supposed to expect the food to be fresh, warm and delicious after it’s been in some random person’s car for at least an hour???
F this place. It may be good if you go there, but the attitude I received is not how you should treat customers. No offer to refund the cost of the food or even an apology. It seems that many others have had the same experience.
My advice: NEVER order delivery from this place.
I ordered lunch and now it’s almost dinner time. Thanks MOMMA.
I’ll update IF the food ever arrives and I’ll be sure to post a photo of the no doubt soggy garbage I paid $ 20 for.
UPDATE: It is now 3 hours since I ordered. The restaurant won’t pick up the phone, nobody will call me back and they took my money but did not deliver the food.

I ordered the jerk chicken with two sides: one of rice and beans and one of the plantains. You can order the regular or large size. I just got the regular size, which was under ten bucks and it was perfect for about a meal and a half for me.
I added on a little hot sauce, but everything was already very flavorful and delicious. I’ll definitely put this on my list to order again. I ordered through
and my food came right under 45 minutes (the website said 45 – 60 minutes).

This place is full of wonderful flavor!
If you are looking for a place that puts love in the food, go see miss Debbie.
She has some vegetarian and vegan options that are custom orders.

It’s all about Ms. Debbie and her cooking here. This is a great find. Can never get enough Jamaican food. She’s got all the basics here. Went with the curry goat plate, plantains, cabbage and 4 hot jerk wings on the side.
The hot jerk wings are fuggin’ delicious. That sweet spice on those babies are amazing. Can’t stop thinking of them. Love that you can order them by the wing. Curry goat is very good. Think I got the fattest goat on the farm that day, but that fat helped flavor it. The curry is subtle. You notice the flavors more half way in and the heat is slow. Builds up at the end to make my belly very happy and warm. Cabbage was refreshing. The plantains were delicious. So sweet with that nice crunch on them. You’d swear they were candied. I’ll be back soon for some more wings, jerk chicken as main dish and some ox tail.
**TIP: Call your order in ahead of time. Not a dine in place and she cooks the meals to order. She told me 15 minutes and took almost 40 minutes. But, well worth the wait.

I found this place through GrubHub, and I was initially really excited to order from them. I ordered the Oxtail with Plantains and rice & beans, and then another order of Oxtail with cabbage and rice & beans. With an estimated time between 7:20 and 7:30.
First thing was the order didn’t show up until 7:50, and the order was wrong. No one called me to tell me that they were out of plantains, they just gave me more cabbage in both orders. The food was luke warm. Because the place closes at 8 I can’t send it back, but I did call them.
I got no answer but then someone called me back. The person who called me back wasn’t the right person and they handed the phone over like they had nothing to do with my jacked up order. The woman who claimed the call then said that since GrubHub is a third party business, it’s their fault that my order was messed up. Fine I’ll take that. Yet, when I asked why was the estimated time 20 minutes late, i’m again given the third party excuse. Here’s my thing, If I order my food at 6PM, then I’m told that the food won’t come until 7:30 that’s already 90 minutes for a plate of food, now add 20 more minutes on top of that because it’s a third party whatever you call it. She whom ever the person on the other end of the line asked if she could make it up to me. I opted not to go for that, I was already upset. But I had a meal so I sat down to eat it.
Now let me get to the taste of my luke warm food, that’s not exactly what I ordered: The oxtail was salty, so salty I could barely stomach it. There wasn’t enough sauce/​juice on it, and the meat was chewy. Oxtail is supposed to be a slow cooked dish, meaning the meat should fall off the bone with a very little pressure. It did not, in fact it was even a bit tough. The rice and beans barely had any beans in it was also too salty any flavor it was supposed to have was over powered by the three tons of salt in it. The only good thing about the meal, surprisingly, was all that extra cabbage I didn’t want. That second order was supposed to be my lunch for tomorrow. I have to throw it away.
I will never order from here again.

Great food great people. I drove down from LA looking for an authentic Jamaican restaurant and I found Mommas. I highly recommend anyone to grab a bite from here. Great customer service and great food!

Ox tail & jerk chicken are just a few favs! Along 2 w/​her caramelized plantains! So delish!
They are in the corner of a market. The only downside they probably should work on is the delivery part. A bit unorganized but that can be fixed. The food was still amazing. So happy to have her again!

What can I say, I stopped into my neighborhood My Market for some chicken to grill on my way home. There was this amazing smell and laugher wafting from the back corner. There I found Miss Debbie, the owner, of newly established, Momma’s Jamaican Food.
I wandered back for a free sample. She quickly, without being asked, whipped me up some jerk chicken, goat, and ox tail, with some coconut rice.

I immediately noted the amazing sauce the food was in, I will make it my new mission to get Miss Debbie to make me a gallon of it to eat on every meal imaginable!!!
The jerk chicken, my favorite as I’m a chicken snob, was so juicy and tasty. The flavors really popped out and slapped you right in the face (the way chicken should)!!!
The goat, something I’ve never eaten before, fell apart in my mouth. Tender and smooth, who knew goats were so tasty? And the ox tail, tasted oddly nostalgic, like home cooked stew from my childhood.
Miss Debbie, thank you for bringing FOOD to Home Avenue, I’ll be back!!! TOMORROW, and every day I can after.
Make the smart choice people, skip the pizza and Mexican food and go straight for Miss Debbie’s Jamaican food. You won’t regret it!!!
