I love mongolian grill foods but did not have a good experience here. I first ask the cashier some questions about the bbq and sauce that is in the jugs they put on the noodles because I’m trying to lower my salt intake. I forget what my second question about the second sauce was so I say one moment while I check the list again. And then this man behind me just goes ahead and gets his order taken. I normally don’t mind since I knew I had questions and its courteous to let someone who is ready go but at least acknowledge that I was before you! I wanted to say something to that man in green plaid who apparently thought his order was so much more important than mine! And the cashier should have said that I was first as well. Then when it’s my turn again at the cashier I asked what the sauce in the jugs were; again because I don’t want to add stuff that would increase my salt intake. She tells me what it is and I figure well it should be good and less salt; great! So im ready to order and she starts cleaning the other side of the store. Like hello??? Im ready to order. I’ll just take my business somewhere else then! And will definitely keep my mongolian BBQ business at Bamboo Bistro in Chula Vista where the service is ALWAYS good, friendly, and the food has always been 100% delicious.

What happened to Mongrill? The people were amazing and cooked everything well. They always gave me extra pineapple when asked, have my husband extra beef and chicken since he doesn’t take veggies and they got us through the line no longer than ten minutes! After tonight, we will no longer visit this place. I don’t know if it’s new management or what. The cook sneezed into the wall a few times, then rubbed his nose profusely with the glove he cooked with. Our meals were full of burned pieces and the noodles were very gummy. Please! Bring the old management back!!!

I was piqued by the name when I was wandering around UTC — hungry and saw quite a line for it so decided to try it out. The concept was pretty unique, you pay for a bowl — in which you could select the meat, vegetables, and then after the rice/brown rice or noodle. For meat selection, you could choose between pork, chicken, turkey, or beef. I think you could selected all four meat if you wanted(since I observed the girls before me ordering all three), then any kind of vegetables you like, and then towards the end, the range of sauces, and then rice/brown rice/or noodle. Afterwards there is one person that heats it up for you, cooking the meat and you get to watch. There seemed to be a bit of a setback though as the machine at the cashier’s seemed to be having problems. And also they do not seem to keep track of your drinks, you end up having to go back for it after your food. They call out the drink to see if anyone responds. One lady realized she never got hers after she walked away and finished her food and came back for it. Feel as though there also was not enough people working as there was only 3, one at cashier, one prepping all the food you wanted, and then one cooking. Maybe there should be one more? Food was okay, but I have tasted better especially for mall food. Service was quite slow mostly because the receipt machine kept breaking or having its moments.

It unfortunate to see the review for this place wasn’t very good because I actually like this place. Again, this is a restaurant in the food court of UTC. I mean for the standard of a food court restaurant I like this place. I visited this place maybe 5 times and still like it. I like the option to select your own meat, vegetables, sauces, and they cook it fresh on a Mongolian grill. I love their noodles!!! I highly recommend it! I normally get beef with sorts of vegetables, and request everything on the sauce! The combination of their sauces is great. I normally make it spicy too. I really like stir fried noodles so this is one of restaurants I visit at the food court. For a price of less than $ 10, they give you freshly cooked noodles and large enough portion that I always eat it for 2 meals!

Noodles are not fully cooked. And there is an «I don’t care attitude» behind the counter. The suggestions they make for the food to taste«really good», is not working. I will not try again.

I’ve been going here for years. It’s my absolute favorite Mongolian Grill. I get an all veggie bowl! So delicious and filling. Although you don’t pack your own bowl they do an excellent job! This little joint is a must if you are in the area or at UTC.

Definitely the most underrated Mongolian stir fry/BBQ. They don’t let you pack your bowl but they pack it real good for you. I definitely feel like I got what I paid for, they don’t try to cheat you by packing more veggies vs meat(it looks 50:50 to me). Tastes good too!

I came here during lunch when it was extremely busy. excellent service and the food came out quickly. this is my go-to place because I’m usually in a rush. I got the beef bowl and it was steamy & tasted delicious(flavorful but I like to eat with Sriracha sauce). I recommend putting pineapple in your bowl. I would come here again for the friendly service and the food.

The food smelled and tasted spoiled, even though it was cooked in front of my face! So much for thinking the busiest place would be the best place! I should have went somewhere else for my Mongolian fix! Meat looked spoiled. I couldn’t not get over the spoiled smell and taste! What a waste of my lunch time!!!

Food is okay. Got the Mongolian bowl. Not as good as Great Khan’s but significantly less greasy. They might get 4 stars from me if they added sriracha to their condiment area. Please get sriracha(not the pre-packaged chili sauce)!! Would be so much better.

Came here for lunch w CJ. Was looking for something different. It’s not stir fresh. CJ wanted something else. She walked there, placed an order, came back with food, and my dish was still not ready. I’m the end she waited an additional 10 minutes. Place was slow. Food was ok. Nothing to write home about. The most disappointing thing was thai iced tea. Tasted more ice less tea. Don’t get me wrong I’m not expecting the best flavor, just some.

I would suggest you pass on this place, unless you order an all veggie bowl. I wasn’t able to chew most of the beef and ended up spitting it into my napkin. For ten bucks, you can get much better food at one of the other places. I wonder how this place is still there???

I paid for La Jolla and received Tijuana. It’s probably OK if you go veggie. But the meat was gross. There, I said it.

Not even sure where to start with this. This place is a sad replacement for great khans. They don’t let you build your own bowl and they charge for extra meat. The girl at the grill over cooked my food and it had a burnt taste to it. Over all I was not happy with my food. To top it all off the don’t have a discount for mall employees.

Undercooked and without flavor. Long wait while only 2 people where ahead of me. I had pork which was mostly fat. It is a cross between a wok and grill. Pick your meet and vegs. No BBQ about it. Over priced for steamed food. I won’t be back

I love great khans but this place is a disappointment. I came here my first time not impressed, and I wanted to come back to give it another try, and it was worst. I’m never coming back to this location until they get workers who can actually cook it the right way. First off, you can not build your own bowl, the workers will do it for you and you do not have control over how much food you put in it. It’s around $ 10. While I was waiting for my food to be cooked I was watching this Hispanic young girl cook the bowls of food for the people in front of me. Their noodles was burning to the hot plate, and would stick to their grill, she would move her stick carelessly making the food drop off the side, it was horrible to watch. I was hoping by the time my food came around she would clean the grill because it had soo much burnt food left behind on it. She didn’t. A lot of my food got swept off the grill onto the floor, and my noodles were burnt! I told her she needed to add more noodles to it because my full portion of food became half now. She agreed and put soo much noodles in it, that I didn’t even have meat or vegetables anymore. I also had burnt noodles in my Togo tray. The young worker seemed frustrated because she looked sweaty and tired, so my recommendation for this business is that you get strong workers preferably male to do this job, since it requires SKILLS that young girls can not handle. The cashier was also a young girl and she witnessed it all and she did not care. This is horrible customer service when workers can witness a disaster and not care to fix it. Instead they were just talking amongst themselves like it was no big deal that I was unhappy. My noodles tasted bland as well, there were no flavors to it but little pieces of burnt scraps.

Meh. I’ve experienced better. It’s already disappointing that there isn’t many Mongolian noodle restaurants here in San Diego. First of all, its not like most places where you get to grab your ingredients and attempt to smush it in your bowl. They grab it for you kinda like a subway styled venue where you choose what you want. A bowl is $ 7.95 Meats — Chicken, Turkey, Beef, Pork Vegatables — they have almost everything, for example, spinach, broccoli, mushroom, green bell peppers, green onions, white onions, baby corn, etc. Sauces — garlic, satay spice, soy sauce, and more Even though the server threw a lot of scoops of sauces into the mix, the noodles came out very bland and flavorless which makes me wonder if the sauces are just simply watered down or something. The meat was very dry and chewy. It was not very pleasant. I would probably not come back here unless I was desperate for Mongolian noodles. I prefer Great Khans much more !

Mon Grill gives a LOT of food, their $ 8 bowl lasts me 2 meals… everytime. There’s a pretty good variety of items that you can have on your bowl and there really is no limit. I would say at least 16 – 20 choices are available. You also get your choice of meat and either noodles/rice…stick with noodles if you can’t finish your meal… even when I ask for less sauce, it’s just swimming… probably because the guy stir frying it adds water and all the veggies also release water. The noodles are chewy, but I’m always afraid of my rice drowning… so I typically get noodles… if there was an option to have the sauce on the side, then I’d get rice. Like a good Asian, I’m not looking to drown my rice in soy sauce or any other super salty equivalent. Also, It no longer operates in a way where you can fill your own bowl… which is probably better cause outside of all the master stuffers/packrats, you get that one person that is super greedy/picky with certain items(just gotta have that perfect looking piece of corn) or that super gross person who coughs/sneezes/touches all the food in front of you).

2.5 stars for the food, but I’ll give them 3 stars because they were friendly. My medium spicy bowl with meats, veggies and noodles is almost ok at MonGrill in UTC food court. However the texture of my noodles is a bit odd, sorta rubbery. But it’s fast food in a food court, so I don’t expect gourmet. Also, there is too much greasy sauce at the bottom of my food, so I could only eat off the top. I took the advice of the friendly employee and got all the sauces as well as asking for medium spice. There is plenty of flavor, although too much salt and grease for me. Is it the best option in this food court? Probably not, but I’m not sure since I haven’t tried them all yet. I liked Great Khan a little better, but they closed or moved.

The old mongolian place that was here before(Great Khan Mongolian) is gone :(I actually liked them b/c it was 1) convenient; 2) priced ok; and 3) you could, personally, stuff as much meat and veggies into your own bowl. You can only find them at Horton Plaza now. Mon Grill now occupies their space. It’s nicely decorated. But gone is the option to stuff your own bowl w/meat and veggies of your choice. $ 7.95 Regular Bowl $ 6.95 Vegetarian Bowl It comes w/noodles(that are stir fried in) or a to-go bowl of rice. Not sure if you can request the bowl of rice to be stir fried in as well? Choice of beef, chicken, pork, and turkey. Veggie selection: onions, bean sprouts, green onions, green peppers, celery, mushrooms, celery, broccoli, carrots, zucchini, baby carrots, tofu, water chestnuts, spinach, cilantro They let you choose as many vegetables as you want to(have THEM) stuff in a bowl. Truth be told, the woman stuffing the bowl does a decent job. She doesn’t exactly have the expertise like *me* to stuff the bowl to the brim(note sarcasm here) but it’s actually a decent amount of meat and veggies she gets into the bowl. It’s not a bad price for what you get but I still miss the old Mongolian place that was here before.
