So they had breadsticks. So what? The food was mediocre at best and the service sucked, to be blunt. I’m surprised they held on as long as they did. There was nothing special about this place. Run of the mill food served in a chaotic environment.

Food was good, but they closed the restaurant down for good as of yesterday 10÷4÷15.

Wasn’t overly impressed. The sandwich was more bun than anything and they brought my food out before my sons. I think the only thing I did like was the breadsticks. I got two with my sandwich and my son got one with his chicken strips. Might give the pizza a shot considering how the breadsticks were.

Service is always great but the food is bland. Not the best but reasonably priced.

I always loved coming here when it was Pat & Oscars. I was so afraid they had gone out of business but was SO happy to find them when my girlfriend and I were down in San Diego. You definitely get the bang for your buck here. They giver you a large portion of food for a very reasonable price. Its been so long since I’ve been here last I forgot that I usually split the meals. I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with 2 bread sticks and my girlfriend ordered the Penne Pasta with Bolognese with 2 bread sticks and we both had quite a bit of leftovers to take home with us. The food came out fast and was very hot. The pastas overall were okay, they were a little bland for the both of us and reminded us of cafeteria food, they really needed more flavor. The breadsticks are what I was really looking forward to when I found Os and they don’t disappoint. They are everything I remembered, a true 10⁄10. We ordered a side of desert breadsticks(cinnamon sugar covered) and they too were amazing. Both the regular and desert breadsticks come out warm and soft and are really easy to fill up on so be careful! The one and ONLY downside to the desert breadsticks is that they aren’t as good the next day when they are stale or if you try and reheat them in the microwave. The regular breadsticks are just as good the next day, even when reheated. I can’t wait to go back to San Diego and visit O’s when I am down there!

I still love their lemon chicken, their breadsticks and their Caesar salad. However, quite disappointed with the potato wedges, they tasted stale. The place was dirty with several dirty booths that have been sitting like that for some time. Even the«clean» booth were still dirty with food left behind on the table and on the booth chairs. The menu felt gross to the touch and the floors were dirty. They may just be under staff since it is Memorial Day. Giving the benefit of the doubt hence the 3 stars.

Reasons why O’s American Kitchen will be the next restaurant to close in Carmel Mountain. 1. The place smells funky and is just downright dirty. 2. The straw dispenser has not been cleaned since the place was called Oscar’s. 3. The booths and chairs need replacing. 4. The breadsticks at Wings and Things are way better than here.(This is the place where the breadsticks made them famous) 5. Tried the special… the meatloaf and they would not let me substitute anything for the mashed potatoes.(potato wedges?) 6. The meatloaf was dry and awful. I took the meatloaf up to show them and was told I could have something else, so I chose the Lemon Pepper chicken half. 7. The Lemon Pepper chicken was dry.(I remember when the Lemon Pepper Chicken was so good here) 8. The Greek Salad was served with old faded beets and rusty iceberg lettuce.(used to be so good) 9. At 6:00PM on a Thursday night, the place was empty.(I remember when they had a sign out saying you couldn’t get a table until you ordered) In conclusion, I said my last goodbye to O’s American Kitchen, Pat and Oscars, Oscars…

Tried the new lasagne and it was very salty. I took 2 bites and couldn’t finish it. Way too much salt. I come here mainly for the breadsticks and the Greek salad, but haven’t been impressed with any of their entrees, so far.

We should have known when we pulled into the parking lot, at around 8:45pm on a Friday night, and the place was empty. As a matter of fact, when we got out of the car we said, «There’s nobody here. That’s a BAD sign. Do you think we should go someplace else?» But, alas, we were hungry and we used to love this place when it was Pat and Oscar’s and before that, Oscar’s, so, we went in. A few observations: 1. The place STINKS! Really stinks. When was the last time the carpet was cleaned? 1994? And clean your grease trap too! That smell is unmistakable. 2. The two«kids» behind the front counter, were playing with the bread sticks, comparing the different sizes, the whole time, while the kid at the register took our order. He appeared to be 16 or 17 years old, nothing wrong with that, he did his job. We ordered 2 Chicken Caesar salad Pita sandwich combos, with a Greek Salad and potato wedges. No tomatoes on one of the sandwiches. $ 22.64 3. The«folks» in the kitchen kept eyeballing us like«why did they have to come in here, we want to go home!» These guys look like they just did a dime at Folsom working in the prison mess to perfect their culinary skills. 4. We sat down at a table in the dining room. Got our forks, napkins and the squeeze bottles of dipping sauces. The bottles were SUPER greasy. Almost slid out of your hand on the way back to the table. Those bottles need to be de-greased now! 5. The restroom, not surprisingly, needed to be cleaned BADLY! 6. When we finally got our orders delivered to the table, my pita sandwich, that was supposed to have no tomatoes, appeared to have extra tomatoes on it and NO Caesar dressing. They must have misunderstood. I said no tomatoes, not no dressing. 7. The breadsticks, which used to be the highlight of this place, were hard as a rock. Probably from being played with behind the front counter all day. We did not eat them. 8. The potato wedges were NASTY. Cold, greasy, pretty hard and crunchy too. They had been sitting around in the back for a while. Overall, it was very disappointing and unfortunate that we walked in their door last night. My daughter said, «It’s sad, Dad. I have a lot of great childhood memories about this place. I used to love it and it was so busy back then.» The only explanation I can come up with is, they must know that they will be shutting down soon, lost their lease, somebody died, or something and they don’t want to «waste» money on things like cleaning supplies, hiring quality chefs and counter help, and having a manager. As far as I could tell there was no manager type person there last night. Not that it would have mattered. We thought about complaining, but, figured, these kids don’t care, why waste our time. We ate what we could, left and as we drove down Carmel Mtn. Road, towards the 15, we saw In N Out, Chick Filet, Taco Bell, Rubios, CPK and Marie Calendars. We all said in unison, «We should have gone there!» as we passed each of them. McDonald’s would have been better. Very sad! Bottom line: Hopefully they will be closing for good sometime soon.

I’ve always been a fan of O’s American Kitchen formerly known as Pat and Oscars. However after eating several times after the latest name change, it appears that this is a different entity than when it was Pat & Oscars. The menu may still be similar/the same but the quality of food has changed. I’ve always loved their bread sticks and will continue to love their bread sticks as that has remained the same.(Seriously, try their bread sticks, they are the best). However, the other dishes are are just okay. The pizza is okay nothing too fancy. Essentially this is a fast food place yes with sit down option available. However, when it was Pat and Oscars the food was top notch and portions were much bigger than what is offered now. I think they use a different BBQ sauce now also as I can taste the difference. Customer service at this location is okay, sometimes food takes a while to come out even though there are are not many other patrons. Plenty of parking here at this location as they are in a large plaza bordering other businesses. Be careful of lunch and dinner rush, they do tend to get crowded for both dine in and take out.

I liked this place better a long time ago, when they were still called Oscars. The name was nice and the food was a lot better. The breadsticks are crap now. and for some reason i keep thinking the food keeps getting more expensive. I never eat here anymore. I think its a total rip off. The chicken is tiny the rips are even tinier and the salads usually have a rotted piece in your serving.

Love this place. Love the staff(; Omg the Chicken Alfredo and the Southwest BBQ Chicken Salad are to die for. The Bread probably the best but fattiest part of the meal. Still good staff, good environment, good food, and great bread! Os forever!

Nope. Got sick. However I was always a fan of Oscars or O’s American Kitchen now. The breadsticks are good and the tomato-fredo pasta is good. But the chicken isn’t that great and the salads are just generic. But I got sick the last time I ate here.

I came to this restaurant with a friend back in May 2012 when it first opened. As one of the very first customers of the restaurant, I’m glad I got to experience a meal from O’s American Kitchen before I moved out of San Diego. When I called to confirm if they were going to be open on Memorial Day, I was actually intending to call Pat & Oscar’s. A woman picks up the phone and greets me with an «O’s American Kitchen!» I immediately thought to myself«Oh crap! I dialed the wrong number!!!» Nope. Turns out Pat & Oscar’s was renamed to O’s American Kitchen after Pat & Oscar’s filed for bankruptcy the previous year. I had never eaten at Pat & Oscar’s before, but I had tried their breadsticks. The breadsticks were BEYONDDIVINE. It was like I was in breadstick heaven… minus the fact that a breadstick struck me in the heart. On the outside, it looks just like any ordinary breadstick, but as I’m munching on them, I can hear two little angels in my head going«AHHHHHHHH!!!» to me. Sorry…I was daydreaming… where was I again? Oh yeah! The breadsticks! Unfortunately, it’s been so long that I can’t remember how it tasted, but it felt like there was extra butter inside the breadsticks themselves. I had a chance to try a sample while I was waiting in line to order my food. It was DIVINE. I even got a chance to chat with an employee, who is a fan of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. I was wearing my Mike Napoli Texas Rangers jersey, so obviously he had something to say about it. He was really nice about it. I was too even though I added a «Well get ready for some disappointment this year»(LOL). I ordered the baked ziti to go, and it was great. Had no complaints about it. I wish I could come back to O’s American Kitchen one day and try their other food.

Ok, so I gave O’s American Kitchen the benefit of the doubt when I wrote my last review, and I spoke to the relative consistency in their food quality over the years. However, I have to give them a downgraded review tonight because of the poor customer service my husband and I received from them. When we arrived, the gal who took our order was friendly, and as our food came out, each guy who brought out our food was nice as well. We ordered a personal pizza with salad and breadsticks and a personal pasta bowl with salad and breadsticks. They brought out the salad and breadsticks relatively quickly, despite the fact that an entire girls’ softball team and their families ordered right after us. Then, they brought out my husband’s pizza and told us the pasta would be right out. 10 minutes later… No pasta. When my husband was done with his pizza, he went up to the cashier to complain. The cashier called over the manager, whose name is Sierra if the name on the receipt can be trusted. He told her the situation, and she asked for the receipt and refunded my pasta. I know that seems great, but I also know other places would have offered to still give us the food, even if to go, while still refunding the meal. Plus, she only refunded the pasta part of the meal, not the breadsticks and salad. I know I’m probably being picky, since I did in fact eat the salad and breadsticks, but I ordered a complete meal and didn’t get it. On top of that, Sierra, assuming that’s her name, wasn’t very friendly or apologetic. When we were still sitting around, we saw a couple other parties complain about messed up orders too, so it wasn’t just us. Great customer service could have made me leave happy, but instead I had to cook a separate meal for myself at home. Needless to say, I probably won’t be back.

The staff was friendly & gave us a free milk. The breadsticks were fresh & the salad was delicious. It was nice & quiet atmosphere with the food coming out quickly. I still miss the old BBQ sweet sauce versus the new tangy BBQ. Everything was well taken care of, but the bathroom was disgusting with toilet paper all over the floor. When I see things like this, it makes me question the cleanliness of the kitchen. Always well priced food & will visit again for another breadstick massacre!

I’m not much of a complainer, but the slow regression of this place is unfortunate. The quality has gone down, the portions have become smaller, and the prices have gone up. I loved this place as a child. But O’s is a shadow of its former self. I have given it several attempts at redemption, but have been let down every time. The pizzas are doughy, the salads are wilted, the chicken is flavorless and greasy. I’ve felt sick after eating it on several occasions. I think i’m done with this place for good. If this regression continues, I don’t see O’s staying open for too many more years.

I’m not sure why the ratings are so low, because I’ve been coming here for years and still enjoy their food. The food here is always good. We get takeout 90% of the time, and they always get our order right. They also give you a free breadstick to enjoy while you’re waiting, I definitely look forward to that! We usually order family style, with some combination of pizza, breadsticks, a HUGE greek salad, and lemon chicken. I can survive solely off the salad and breadsticks, but for family occasions we always order more. Apparently their BBQ chicken is just the lemon chicken with BBQ sauce on top, so if you can’t decide you should order the lemon with a side of BBQ sauce.

Growing up in Rancho Bernardo, Oscar’s was always a place where we could stuff our faces with bread sticks on the cheap. In fact, during my senior year we had some kind of session where you could bring in someone you knew with a job that you admired. I brought in a comic book illustrator, another kid brought in a Navy Seal and someone else brought in a manager from Oscar’s. I think he knew he was being upstaged by some of the«cooler» professions, so he busted out free bread stick cards and handed them to the class for the win! Bravo, manager guy! The name has since changed,(a few times), but the menu is almost exactly the same, which I appreciate. My wallet is a smidge fatter now than it was in high school, so I have graduated from the bread and moved onto some items that were once out of budget for a kid working at Ralph’s. Some of my faves include: The Greek salad — they nail this one! The ribs are tender and not over-sauced. They are the most expensive item on the menu but a great option if you want some baby backs sans the line at Phil’s. The chicken pita Caesar sandwich. Grab a bottle of dressing from the counter and apply as you would salsa to a burrito. The chicken and chicken wings are fall off the bone, delicious and I recommend the lemon over the BBQ. Long story short is that Oscar’s, Pat & Oscar’s, O’s American Kitchen, whatever you want to call it holds a bit of a soft spot for me. Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s my lack of a refined palette, but either way this place has been and always will be a safe go-to for a decent meal with some good variety!
