Specializing in a full scope of periodontics with expertise ranging from dental implants to cosmetic periodontal surgery, gum grafting and crown lengthening. Additionally, one of the few providers in southern California of endoscopic microultrasonic periodontal debridement, a «deep cleaning» alternative using a camera to view beneath the gum tissues.

Established in 1949.

This periodontal practice has been extant for over 60 years with 3 different owners (Dr. Workman being the current and third owner in the series of doctors). This periodontal practice has been in two locations since its inception and has resided at 3330 3rd Avenue since 1982. Currently, Drs. Parker Workman and Robert Hymes work in the practice providing the full range of periodontal and implant therapies available.

Dr. Parker D. Workman received his D.M.D. degree from Harvard in 2004 and certificates in general practice residency (2005) and periodontics (2008) from the UC, San Francisco. Prior to dental school, Dr. Workman was a research scientist studying toxicology, pharmacology, molecular genetics and entomology. Dr. Workman practices periodontics in San Diego, California where he focuses on periodontal plastic surgery, implants (often with CT guidance for optimal placement), as well as, non-​surgical treatment of periodontal disease using endoscopic microultrasonic periodontal debridement. Dr. Workman is an active member of many dental societies including the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology and Academy of Osseointegration. He lectures on treatment of periodontitis, guided tissue regeneration with bioactive compounds, advanced grafting techniques for implants and dental implants including treatment planning and restoration.

I can’t believe dr Parker passed! He was such a great professional always made me feel comfortable in his hair. He was funny and sweet so was his crew.

I showed up for an appointment in August but the office was closed. I tried calling to no avail. Then the line was disconnected. I was perplexed because everyone there was very professional. I decided to look around on the internet to see if I could find a reason. Never in a million years did I expect to read that he had passed away. Not only was he a great periodontist, he was a kind, thoughtful, compassionate man. He will be missed! :(

I want to write a review as well of this wonderful Dentist. I want to tell his friends what a great man he was. He did excellent work on me and was always excited about the things that were going on in my life. I do a lot of Mission work with orphans in Zimbabwe and we would talk about that. Last year I got to go to Zimbabwe and we had some good conversations about my trip. This spring one of the native Zimbabwean Pastors came to visit to tell several Churches about the work. When I told Dr. Workman, he said «Oh, I want to be part of this. Bring him to me». He did a full Exam, Xrays and had Vanessa give Pastor Cephas a wonderful cleaning (no charge). That was who he was –very tender-​hearted. My husband said «That will look very good on Parker’s resume when he sees St. Peter». I believe it. Thank you Dr. Workman, RIP, Linda Ballard

I did not leave a review either and now I am so sorry. He was such a wonderful Doctor, I had so many problems and teeth taken out. He really took care of me. My husband did not want to tell me of his passing. We loved him as a person and a Doctor. He was the real deal. I am in shock and so sad. We cared about each other. I send my condolences to his staff too. Especially Patty. Rip

I just found out that Dr passed away. I am so sorry. please give my sympathy to his wife. Although I move I still go in to get my teeth cleaned by Linda who used to work for him. I went to him for many years to get all my work done and he did many surgeries. RIP Dr Workman .My sympathy as well to Patty who worked by his side endlessly for all the years I went to him. Thank you for all the help you gave me. I am sorry that I did not see a memorial or death notice to go to the funeral.

Today I got a voicemail from Dr. Workman’s hygienist, canceling my next appointment,… because Dr. Workman has passed away.
I cannot believe it. I do not know what happened. And I feel so guilty now; I never left a review, in the several years that he helped recover the health of my teeth.
I was reading all the other reviews that people have left here. Everyone describes him as honest. I agree. Some say he was fun. That too. He also had a strong peaceful character. Constant; an anchor. And he was logical. While several dentists had not been optimistic about the outcome of procedures on my teeth, he was reasonable, and we were able to improve the health of my teeth. Now they look good; I can smile; I am happy. And he never overcharged me.
And the reason I had not taken care of my teeth,… it all fell apart after my father passed away 15 years ago. And it took me many years to finally focus again, and recover. And Dr. Workman was there to help. He helped me beat my father’s death, and now he is dead. This is so sad. Every time he leaned over to check my teeth, over many years, I would think that his face glowed, healthy, with positive, peaceful energy. I would think: «I wish I glowed like that».
I saw his Facebook Page for the 1st time today. I never had before. His last post was the day after my birthday, in December. He would post interesting words. I can’t post anything for him in return. I can’t ever say anything… more, to him. It’s too late. I can only look for traces of him.

I went to Dr. Workman today to get my wisdom teeth pulled and he was excellent! I was so nervous but he made the visit feel very comfortable! The staff is amazing, I interacted with every employee. They ALL reach out to you to say hello; it feels like you are at home. I Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Top of the line team.

Went in about a week ago to get a consultation for my impacted wisdom teeth and had an overall great experience. Dr. Workman, along with the rest of his staff, happily answered every one of my questions and made sure my visit was pleasant. Bonus, over small conversation I learned that Dr. Workman attended Harvard University, which explains why he so detailed and well-​spoken.

im not a huge fan of the dentail office, and to be honest it kinda freaks me out. however my visit to dr. workman’s office was one of the best visits to a doctors office i have been too. my roommate recomended i go for a teeth cleaning and im so happy i went. everyone greeted me so welcoming and enthused. the doctor was very knowledgable, explained everything to a tee. i would definitely recomend this doctors office to anyone. very genuine employees.

I was extremely nervous when I found out I had to take out a wisdom tooth. I have never had any major dental work before, and had absolutely no idea what to expect.
He was a visiting surgeon in Laguna Beach and I was scheduled to see him in a couple days. That gave me a couple days to completely build my nerves, listen to horror stories, and google the crap out of anything that could possibly go wrong.
When I get there, he made me feel so comfortable. He was completely open with communication and what he would be doing. He had many comforting words and really worked with me. The whole process went from scary to not-​so-​much because of him,
He also great after-​care advice and made sure I was okay to leave before I left.
I would HIGHLY recommend this man.

I’ve had more than one implant placed with more than one Periodontist so I’m a fairly educated patient on the subject. Dr. Workman truly knows his stuff. As you can see from his bio, he’s a graduate from Harvard and UC San Francisco. That’s great but not what really impresses me. If you keep reading you will see that prior to Periodontics he was a research scientist. Dr. Workman makes sure that he completely understands what’s going on in your mouth and then makes certain that you do as well. He’s truly and expert at what he does.
His most recent work for me consisted of a bone graft, sinus lift, and dental implant. He refuses to cut corners and uses nothing but the best product available. You know you have a skilled surgeon when the pain or discomfort is nominal. But enough about the technical stuff.
I know you won’t believe this, but it’s actually fun to have work done by him. He’s a down to earth guy with a wonderful personality and a wonderful staff. That’s right, unlike many in his field Dr. Workman actually has a personality! You can tell when people truly care about you; and Dr. Workman and his staff truly care. I can’t recommend him and his team enough.

Dr. Workman is a wonderful, caring person and an excellent health care professional. I went to him for my wisdom teeth extraction. He cares greatly about his patients. During my post operation recovery, he answered all my questions and concerns.
I was so impressed with the service at his practice that I have chosen to switch to him as my primary care dentist!

Dr. Workman really help me out in a situation where another dentist and oral surgeon really messed up a tooth extraction and subsequent implant. Dr. Workman was able to help promote healing in the area without any further procedures. This ended up costing me nothing (aside from normal co-​pays of $ 20 for each of the 2 visits). I’m sure there are lots of ways Dr. Workman could have made more off of my situation, but he is honest and truly interesting in helping his patients.
