Okay so I’m the type of person where getting my hair cut makes top 3 of my most anxiety filled experiences (the other two are ALL tests at the eye Dr and the DMV drivers Permit test when I was 15). That’s why I basically refuse to cut my hair. Sadly enough, my friends told me I had to.
Being a relatively new ’ OB’ian ’ I went on Unilocal to search for the one who will cut my hair. Paul C had the best reviews so I took a chance. Went online booked my apt and went in. Paul asked me how I wanted my hair and gave me just that and more. I was considering getting bangs but still apprehensive. After explaining the lack of care I out into my look he said he had better ideas… long layers to keep with my obsessity to keep the length. Best part, he said that if after a few days I decide «no I really want the bangs» come back and i’ll give them to you in 5 minutes. No need, he was right long layers are exactly what I wanted without even knowing its what I wanted.
After 5 weeks with my new hairstyle and I still LOVE it! I am happy to say I will be making an appointment in 3 months to get my hair cut and am not in the least bit worried. Paul is at Bella Donna’s and you should def use his services. I’m actually considering going to get my hair dyed, another big step…

I just moved to the area and I have been apprehensive about finding a new stylist; however, Paul exceeded my expectations at every level! He is skilled at his craft, and at the same time he is laid back and very personable. I really appreciate the way he helped me understand the unique characteristics of my hair and showed me how to care for it between visits; without pushing expensive products! Just left Paul at Bella Donna’s and have to say that in addition to some awesome hair color and a great cut (as usual), I enjoyed a relaxing appointment, catching up and sharing some laughs. I have been going to Paul for years and followed him from another shop because I don’t trust anyone else to take care of me. He is a talented and honest stylist and helps me figure out what I «want to try next». He also has styled my punk rock niece with awesome red bangs, and my mother, who is silver and conservative. I think he is caring and genuine and does whatever it takes to help his clients leave with exactly what they had hoped for. He is the best!
Some other notes: the salon is lovely — very cozy and homey. The owner and the rest of the staff are very sweet and welcoming. I love the place!

Cute little cottage in OB. VERY CLEAN and professional. They specialize in mostly organic and natural products. SHANA is an amazing hair stylist. I’ve been going to her for over 4 years now and will never stray! I highly suggest this place to everyone!

Paul did a great job on my hair! I have very fine hair and I like to keep it longer — below my shoulders. He listened to my concerns about my hair and my face shape as well as what has not looked good in the past, and he worked with my existing cut and color to give me a great style/​highlights. I have been getting my hair done by Paul for many years now (before he even opened flip) and I cannot say enough great things about him! To give you an idea how much I love having my hair done by Paul at flip, I travel all the way from Oceanside for a cut and highlight. My hair always looks great, even when I decide to change length, style, color, etc. and Paul has a great eye for his craft. He employs a talented staff of stylists who are friendly and knowledgeable. The style of the salon is always changing because it is also an art gallery! How fun is that? I look forward to my visits at flip and feel more like I am at a cool hangout instead of a stuffy hair salon. flip rocks!

Forgive me for not doing this way sooner! My pregnancy brain has really set in these last few months, so I apologize!
I got a deal from Megan, who works at Flip in November. They were offering local business owners and employees a free haircut until the end of January. My hair has been growing so fast and although I see someone regularly, I thought this was a good opportunity to try a new place. I may need cuts in between cuts, since my hair is growing at a faster pace and a trim would be just right for keeping the shape.
I made an appointment with Megan for a week or so later. I am happy it’s so close that I could walk. I got there and met the owner, who was very nice. Soon, Megan arrived and was ready to get to work. She was very sweet and we talked the whole time.
I really just wanted to shape up my style and that’s exactly what she did. It looked fresh again and she used the flat iron on it for styling. I had never tried one before, since my hair is really straight, but with this cut it flips a bit. I really liked how it looked and I even went to buy one after!
This salon is small and quaint. It doesn’t have any fanciness about it and it is not pretentious. It could use a little «wow» factor, but all in all it is nice. The people are very nice and know what they are doing. The prices for services are very fair and I will be back. Thank you Megan!!!

I first found Paul in Ocean Beach, where I could easily walk down the street to get a haircut. When he moved to North Park for Flip, it meant I had to drive. Not my cup of tea. But his services were so great, I didn’t even care (which is abnormal for me).
Paul is super attentive, asks important questions along the way, and makes sure you leave happy. He pretty much gets it right every time. And not only that, but he often offers refreshments like wine (or water) to complement the experience and make you feel at ease!
I strongly suggest this salon!
