Peter Dietze Jr, MD

I have so many good things to say about Dr. Dietze, I don’t know where to start. A friend gave me his name after he delivered her 2 babies and also performed a delicate reproductive surgery that enabled her to get pregnant. She is an older mom like me and I am now so thankful she recommended him.
Dr. Dietze has cared for me during 2 pregnancies. Our first ended in a miscarriage, and Dr. Dietze’s kindness and gentle guidance during that time will forever be appreciated. He personally called to follow up with us and helped us through a very confusing time. What I found really amazing about him was the first day he met my husband (and second time meeting me), his intuition and observation about both of us was spot on. The ultrasound that day had revealed our son died. Dr. Dietze saw some early signs of serious shock in my husband that I completely missed, and recommended that I drive home, which I found odd at the time but turned out to be very wise. After explaining all the options to us he also somehow deduced through my (blank, I thought) facial expression what I was leaning towards. If you’re like me, you want a doctor that picks up on the smallest cues with your body and emotions and knows the right way to respond. Especially when it comes to obstetrics and gynecology! We were so fragile during that time and Dr. Dietze’s gentle touch was a deep comfort.
He also performed a surgery on me with perfect results, and again was so sensitive and caring about what I was going through. He excels as an MD, surgeon, and caregiver. His bedside manner is 10 out of 5 stars. His attentiveness and care for his patients is also 10 out of 5. He has a great sense of humor and is outstandingly approachable and delightful.
Another thing I love about Dr. Dietze is that he knows I like to read med studies and do my research as thoroughly as possible, and he is always interested to talk about it with me.

I love Dr. Dietze. He is so kind and caring. He has a genuine concern for the health and wellbeing of his patients. He also does his best to educate me on all opinions and prescribed treatment. I have a medical condition that requires I seek treatment often. even though he is a busy man, he always fits me in for urgent appointments, when required. He is also hilarious! Never a dull moment in his office.

I had a visit with him after my GP detected a questionable PAP. I did not have a regular gynecologist at that time, and went to Dr. Dietze for a much more detailed exam. Needless to say, I was scared out of my mind — but he put me at ease immediately, and fortunately my tests turned out very favorably. He is a very skilled doctor, who is the perfect blend of humor and professionalism. Highly recommend.

I requested an ASAP appointment with Sharp OB/​GYN, and as my regular doctor is very part-​time, I was given Dr. Deitza as my replacement. I was told that he had «cleared his afternoon» and I was given a same-​day appointment to have a few pressing things looked at. I will also mention that my oncologist is the person who told me to go in «immediately».
4 hours later, after I had cleared my afternoon with work and re-​arranged schedules, someone from Dr. Deitze’s office called to tell me that he was now over-​booked, and as his «new» patient (I am not new — I have been with Sharp for 13 years, including most recently as a breast cancer patient), I was dropped from his schedule. That’s right, folks. He dropped me simply because I am a new patient.
Politely pointing out the unfairness of this process to his front desk staff did little good. She just kept repeating herself, like I’m too dumb to understand what they had done.
I was forced to accept an appointment with a yet another doctor, which gives me several more days to wait on my urgent medical condition. Thank you, Dr. Deitza, for playing favorites and delaying care to a cancer patient who had been referred by their oncologist. FAIL.

Best OBGYN. I’ve been going to Dr. Dietze for 14 years so am probably a little bias. He moves hospitals, I move with him is all I think I have to say.

Hands down the best OBGYN I’ve ever had. I found him by a high recommendation of another doctor, who, also told me that Dr. Dietze has given seminars in female reproductive pain and, from what it sounds like, is one of his specialties.
He’s thorough, kind, genuine, and really makes an effort to explain things to his patients rather than throwing a bunch of medical terminology at you and then leaving. Dr. Dietze makes sure to explain everything in a way that’s easy to understand, and takes his time to answer any questions.
His assistant, Liz (I think), is great too. She took time to call me back for a follow up question and to call me again later to check in on me.
Overall very positive experience, and though it’s all the way in Chula Vista, it’s definitely worth the drive.

Great OB! Love him! I had two babies by c sections which he delivered. I followed him to the south bay after he left san diego office. He is great and well worth the wait! And I tell you it is a wait! You must schedule your appts at least a month in advance. It is easier if you are preggers. =)

Dr. Dietze is the type of obgyn that everyone should have!
It’s a 30 minute drive from my house to his location but I refuse to change doctors! He’ll answer any questions without making you feel uncomfortable. He’s changed my perspective on going to the gyno!

Dr. Dietze made me feel like I was in kind, competent, and caring hands. He was not my physician when I had my myomectomy for fibroids 3 years ago, but he did step in to assist when the procedure was a bit too challenging for my ob/​gyn. He was able to complete the procedure successfully, thereby preventing the need for a second, much more invasive procedure or even hysterectomy. When I was in recovery he stopped by to see how I was doing, and he was absolutely kind and caring — he has a very reassuring and calm demeanor.
Anyone looking for a good gyn, definitely consider him! I review him now because today I had an appointment with a doctor on the east coast where I now live, and she made me wish for the thoroughness and competence of Dr. Dietze. I can’t comment on his staff — I know having top-​notch staff can really make or break a relationship with a medical provider.

I’ve been seeing Dr, Dietze since 2002. He’s a wonderful doctor, thorough, highly competent and kind. I’m not exaggerating or being dramatic when I say that I believe without hesitation that his expertise and close monititoring of my issues saved my life. He represents the epitome of what being a doctor is all about. I’ve followed him to several locations because being his patient is worth the extra effort that entails. Highly recommend!

I used to be a patient of Dr. Dietze’s (and of his former partner, Robert Semel, M.D. for many years as well). He (Dietze) is undeniably adorable. His office staff and office manager are unaccountably offensive and can be downright abusive; they are the reason that he lost me as a patient.
Unfortunately, Dr. Dietze shares his front desk staff with several other doctors and has little say in who is manning the desk. As cute as he is it wasn’t worth the attacks to keep dealing with his staff.
Update: May 17, 2007: Okay everyone. Like I said, my dissatisfaction with Dr. Dietze was with respect to his front desk staff, not with him; he is a doll baby. I decided to call his office to see if there’s maybe been an improvement with the front desk staff and to speak with «Belinda» (his current office manager). I called yesterday and I was returning Belinda’s call. Here is precisely what happened:
Their line rang: it was answered and immediately put on hold (to the muzak) with no greeting whatsoever. I waited on hold (like a stooge) for several minutes and then (giving them benefit of the doubt that I had maybe misdialed) I called back.
«Gina» answered (impatient from the get go) and brusquely asked if I could hold. I said, «sure». Two minutes later, a voice came on the line, hurridly informing me that «someone will be right with you». I was then back on hold with more muzak. Several minutes later, I heard the phone being picked up on their end and I was disconnected.
I called back. This time when Gina asked me if I could hold I said, «no». Her response, «Well, you’re gonna have to, there are other people ahead of you and you’re gonna have to wait your turn!»
I explained that this was now my third call, that I had already waited my turn but had been disconnected when they finally picked up (after I had waited for more than five minutes).This, unfortunately, put Gina over the edge.
I asked to be transferred to Belinda and quickly added that I was returning her call. Gina, clearly impatient and annoyed by my impudence, then said, «Belinda or Brenda!?! Belinda’s our office manager and Brenda’s a nurse!»
Again I said, «Belinda, your office manager and, by the way, what’s your name?» Gina answered, «You don’t need to know my name!»
My response, «Well actually, I do. «She grudgingly informed me that her name was «Gina».
When I finally reached Belinda I discovered she was not the same one I had dealt with a couple of years ago (as a patient).
Belinda was indeed gracious. She informed me that Dietze is moving his practice in the next few months to the South Bay.
I can only observe that this is not the doctor’s office to deal with if you’re in pain or have any sort of medical emergency. You’ll have miscarried a couple of times over by the time the front desk staff deems you important enough to put through.
I hope Dietze is moving his practice to the South Bay. Losing his current front office staff will be the best thousand pounds Dietze has ever taken off!
