History

Established in 1985.

The pharmacy was opened in 1985 by PJ, who sold the pharmacy to Mary several years later. Mary owned the pharmacy for many years and started to dispense compounded preparations as well. The current owner is Marjolein Legge-​Beekman, PharmD PhD, who worked as a pharmacist with Mary for many years. Under Marjolein’s ownership the pharmacy has modernized and has been revitalized. Business Owner

Marjolein wanted to be a pharmacist for as long as she can remember. She was born and raised in the Netherlands and received her pharmacist credentials from the University of Groningen. She studied on and received a PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry/​LMU University in Munich, Germany, before relocating to California. She is now a registered pharmacist in several US states, has been a compounding pharmacist for many years and is the owner of PJ’s Pharmacy & Compounding. She is caring and loves to take time to listen to all customers and to find ways to make them feel and function better. She strongly believes in the power of information, science-​driven compounded preparations and natural alternatives to drugs. Marjolein speaks English, Dutch and German.

I’ve been coming to PJ’s for several years. I’ve never received such amazing service and friendly compassionate care. I LOVE this place! I don’t live in the area anymore, but I still make the trip to see them and fill my prescription. You can’t go wrong with PJ’s.

This was my first experience with PJ’s, and it was a good one. I had multiple prescriptions to fill. The insurance company was balking at covering them of course, so they worked with the insurance company to get the prescriptions covered. In one instance, I was to get increasing dosages of the same drug every 10 days and insurance wouldn’t cover it that way all at once. So PJ’s offered to fill one at a time. I was worried that they would forget to do it, but they remembered and I got the other dosages on time just like clockwork. I can definitely recommend their services.

I have used this pharmacy for special prescriptions. I live out of town and get them shipped to me. This last trip to San Diego I had time after my doc appointment and went by to visit them and pick up my prescriptions. I love the staff and Mary, the owener. She also had a great selection of hard to find suppliments.

I had a prescription that I had to fill, and my CMS wouldnt cover it. As I was calling around to the bigger pharmacies I thought «There is no way a small business could compete price-​wise with these larger places»
I was sure wrong. Not only did they quote me at the best possible price, but Mary the owner also called the doctor that wrote the prescription for me, managed to get me covered completely by switching to half the dosage and just taking it twice as much.
I promised them a review, but would have written one even if I didnt. For my first time there, I can definitely say I will use them again.

What a great pharmacy. Mary the owner and all her assistants are knowledgeable, hard-​working, and very pleasant. Refills and faxes with doctors are handled swiftly and efficiently, and they are always ready to go the extra mile. They are a self-​compounding pharmacy, plus they handle all the category three opioid pain pills. We started using them when we lived in downtown San Diego, and even tho we have moved to La Mesa we drive the extra distance for the wonderful service.
