We handle everything from routine services and maintenance to engine upgrades, wheels and tires, suspension improvements, A/​C and more. With factory trained master technicians on hand, we can handle just about anything you need. We carry parts from the biggest and best names in the industry at a fraction of what you might find elsewhere. You’ll find us carrying only the highest quality OE replacement parts available. All our service is backed with a 12month/12,000 mile warranty.

We offer convenient drop off for those needing to get back to nearby work, as well as a loaner car for those having more extensive work performed. We treat your car like it’s one of our own.

History

Established in 2002.

What began in 2002 as a humble mail order parts business has expanded into one of the premier Audi, VW, and Porsche superstores in California.

In 2008 we launched our San Diego location catering to the full service, repair, and maintenance for Audi, VW, and Porsche.

In 2011 we expanded into our current 6000 sqft facility. We now offer tire mounting/​balancing services, A/​C repair, in addition to the host of routine diagnostic, service, and parts we’ve been known for.

Unlike most automotive shop owners, I didn’t start PURE because I’m some grease monkey who got tired of wrenching on cars at some big overbearing dealership, and felt the need to go out on my own. I’m a Mechanical Engineer from UC Irvine, who previously worked as a customer service rep for a major engineering firm. Yes I had a cushy desk job talking to people. As fun as it was spending 7hrs a day talking to people on the phone, my passion really were my cars. I love cars. I love wrenching on them, tinkering with them, and solving their problems. My hobby ultimately got the best of me, and with friends and family support convinced me that selling car parts, and fixing cars was my future. So in 2002 armed with my computer, I left my cushy desk job and started the best darn Audi, VW, Porsche shop around.

I’m dedicated to making sure your experience with PURE goes perfect.

Still great. Had a check engine light a few months ago. Took the car in. They diagnosed and had the part in house, mind you my car is 16 years old. I was out within a couple hours, no check engine light. Always awesome service.

Always a great experience at PURE Motorsport.
Typically you would have to schedule an appointment with them (and it’s usually a week or two out) but I came into an issue with my car where the break lights turned on when the car was non-​operational. Worried that I may have to come to a car with a dead battery because of this, I called up PURE and they were happy to accommodate a quick inspection of the break light switch. They were slammed but they were able to help me out and get me up and running. They saved me from a potential headache!

So instead of replying to me via the email I sent him Mike went with the reply on Unilocal to make his case why his shop didn’t do anything wrong and why they are not incompetent.
But here’s the thing, who the hell orders wheels AND tires from a local shop not expecting them to be put on the car? NO ONE.
If you couldn’t do the job the right way you should have never taken the order and referred the job to someone who wouldn’t make a mess of it. You over charged me for the tires and you cost me an additional $ 140 to get the job done right by SD Wheel and Tire (on Convoy, they have done a few of our cars and are great!).
Yeah the wheels came out great but YOU had nothing to do with that it was the fine work of the folks at Avant Garde, who despite doing nothing wrong have reached out to me to ensure I was happy and are sending a gift bag of swag to me for my troubles. YOU couldn’t even reply to an email message and say «hey sorry it went down like this» or «what can we do to make it up to you». Lame.

I have an R32 that would not shift into first gear properly. Was told that I would need a transmission rebuild. Wanted a second opinion and came across Pure on my online search. Made appointment and checked it in. Got a call back saying my short shifter was out of alignment and needed to be adjusted. $ 100 later and my car shifted into gears like butter. These guys know exactly what there doing and more importantly they are very honest.

I took my S4 in for service there last week on a recommendation from a friend with an S5. I needed a 55K service which isn’t cheap if you go through the dealer and a rattle in the undercarriage. Turns out that rattle was due to a poor installation job from another AWE exhaust provider.
The also found that the rear brakes were metal on metal and addressed this in a timely fashion so that I could get my car back by the time I was out of work. Needless to say, they fixed my car up for a reasonable price and have it running much better than it was before I brought it there. Thanks PURE MS… I’ll be back for my next service visit for sure!

They have worked on my 2014 S4 and take great care of it. Tony walked me thru the entire install process when I asked if I could see the work they did. He had such a nice attitude and was very patient with me. Really helped me feel at ease about the work he did. Michael is nice too but is a little more on the quiet side. Both are great people!

After a not so great experience at the Audi dealership, I ended up taking my Audi R8 to Pure Motorsport. Michael and Tony were super helpful and knowledgeable and were able to find the root of the problem (which the Audi dealership wasn’t able to). Tony not only pulled engine codes but he also looked at histograms of when codes were firing, under what conditions, etc… things you would hope a good shop would do as a part of proper troubleshooting. They ended up fixing the problem at a very reasonable cost and my car has been trouble free since.
I’m super happy that they are local to where I am and will definitely be going back if/​when I need more service done.

This is an awesome place to work done on your car. The staff is very helpful and knowledgable. They really stand behind their work and had no problem giving me a full refund for an apr tune that I got (didn’t like it for personal reasons). I am however, very pleased with the H&R coilovers they installed on my 2014 Passat tdi.

I know I should have written this a while ago, probably when I was living in SD but better late than never. I have a 2004 Audi A4 1.8T, the guys there all got to know my car very well considering all the problems that I had. The guys at PURE Motorsport got my car up and running, basically raising it from the dead. From the a dying AC fan, to a diverter valve replacement, all the way to a APR K04 turbo upgrade. The guys at PURE know how to find a solution to a problem. Thanks for servicing and putting up with my car. I highly recommend this shop if you need anything done to your Audi, VW or Porsche. If these guys don’t have the answer they will find it and give you possible solutions.

I have a 1983 VW GTI and was looking for someone who was knowledgeable in the older water-​cooled VWs. I spoke with a so-​called «VW expert» on Miramar who could not handle any earlier year than 2000. I kept looking and found PURE.
PURE was great, they tuned an older car to start and run smoothly, and found the problem that was preventing it from passing SMOG. Instead of advising the unnecessary purchase of more parts, they fixed the part by replacing a relay and changed me $ 13 plus labour. Such honesty and integrity.
I just bought another VW GTI, 1989 this time, and it was not running right, stalling after starting, and was not shifting or clutching right. They fixed everything, said it just required some adjustment, again did not try to sell unnecessary work. They charged me an hour labour, $ 102, for everything, all three things. The car now runs excellently.
Integrity, honesty and competence. It doesn’t get better than these guys. Enjoy them now, cause they are not going to stay small with such great service.

Brought my 2015 S4 to Pure Motorsports after reading alll of the positive reviews on Unilocal.Andrew spent a lot of time on the phone with me answering all of my questions, and caled the wheel manufacturer, Avant Garde to ensure proper fitment, offset, etc. Ultimately decided to go with H&R OE springs, and the AG M590 wheels in their premium finish — brushed clearcoat. Although it was an extra $ 600 for the finish, I felt it really set them apart from the standard painted silver wheel.
On the day of installation, I waited and had a chance to watch how customer-​oriented their whole staff are, dealing with customers asking a ton of questions, and coming in for all sorts of reasons from simple maintenance to complicated service issues, to people upgrading and modding their vehicles. The owner, Mike was very approachable, and took the time to go over different tuning options with me. He also gets his hands dirty, and oversees all the work going on in his shop. He came out and brought a defect to my attention on one of the wheels. There was a sizeable gouge on the inner barrel, and imperfections in the machining. He took pictures and called Avant Garde to speak with their customer service. They agreed to expedite a refinish of the wheel but it would’ve taken up to 2 weeks, and I didn’t want to have to come back and drive with only 3 of the 4 wheels mounted, so they agreed to $ 100 refund, which, isn’t great considering the cost of the wheels, but I accepted.
While I was frustrated and a little upset, I have to say Mike and his team really went above and beyond. Many shops would’ve just mounted the wheel and it would’ve taken a number of days or weeks until I noticed. He brought the wheel out and showed me, gave me options, and that really speaks to the kind of honesty and integrity at Pure MS. Consider me a customer for life. Thank you!

Very friendly and helpful staff. They know a lot about European cars and are very helpful. Took good care of my car when installing my intake. They have a nice waiting area and a very convenient location. They also have a large stock of items in the store at all times. I now know where I will take my ’08 VW Golf GTI for any future problems/​mods/​services.
Update: I have now been there about 5 times. Still giving it a 5⁄5. Great service.

Found out about Pure Motorsports by being recommended by the forums after noticing my vehicle (2012 Audi S4) was leaking some type of fluid.
While still under warranty, because I have a tune, I didn’t want to bring it to the dealership before assessing the situation. I explained this to the guy at the desk after showing up on a Monday morning without a reservation and two hours from home (Long Beach).
Despite being slammed with work that morning, he took the time to inspect the vehicle in the parking lot and check to see that it wasn’t anything serious (checking coolant level, texture of fluid, etc.). Ultimately he concluded because I didn’t have any car errors/​lights thrown, it was clear (not oil) and coolant level was not low, it was most likely water from the A/​C because it’s been so hot.
While this seems minor, any other shop could have had me waiting for hours and charge me just to inspect the vehicle, but not Pure Motorsports. This is why they are so highly regarded in the San Diego forum community and why I would highly recommend them as an honest car shop.

Purchased my AWE exhaust and had it installed through PURE Motorsport. They did an amazing job! The staff is friendly and super helpful. There was an issue with the exhaust from the manufacture and Mike went the extra mile to get another exhaust delivered and installed in a quick turnaround. I highly recommend PURE Motorsport.

The best place to have my Audi worked on. I trust them here amongst other places and they also just happen to have the best quotes/​prices out of all the shops I’ve inquired. Always good customer service and finish work quickly! I had my 105k service done here for about half the price of the dealer and was done in less than a day (timing belt, water pump, thermostat, coolant flush, and oil change). Can’t wait to go back to get my Coilovers installed. Highly recommend Pure Motorsport!

The guys at PURE are PURE AWESOMENESS! I’ve gone there a couple of times now (from LA) and they impress me each time. They are way more than just a shop for your car, they are your single destination for anything car related.

Their waiting area is clean, comfortable, and inviting. It seems like they chose this location with customer comfort in mind. They didn’t throw some chairs along the wall as an afterthought, like a lot of shops I’ve seen. It’s an actual customer lobby.
I made an appointment for the weekend and came down for the work. Mike was thorough and clear about everything that was going to be done on my Audi. Proof that he and his staff know their stuff.
The work estimate was reasonable and accurate, something that I appreciate very much, not just from a shop, but from any place I do any business with.
Mike and the guys literally worked on my car for the ENTIRE day. The WHOLE day. I tried offering to get them drinks and food, but they graciously declined. Dangit Mike, let your customers appreciate you!

Work done was top-​knotch, it’s like I rolled out of there in a new car. Thanks guys, for the new car!
