Rainwater Spa

Called in on Memorial Day weekend Sunday around noon and they had a couple’s massage available within 3 hours. Huge score for us as we really wanted to get in ASAP. I will preface this review by saying that I had actual anxiety about getting a «budget» massage because I have had so many terrible experiences in this area (and yet still seek a great deal and refuse to contract to a membership to get a massage). I felt like I was taking a chance based on some of the other Unilocal reviews.
We arrived 10 minutes early. We were greeted promptly and professionally and lead to the couples room. The room was clean and we were introduced to our massage therapists formally and courteously by name. I had Anne, my husband had Coco. Anne hadn’t asked anything of problem areas or pressure so I spoke up and requested a Swedish style massage with light to moderate pressure — relaxing, no elbows, no thai-​style yoga moves etc. She was agreeable and humorous and encouraged feedback. I highly valued this communication as I have had some really painful, awful, neglectful massages. Extra points here. She asked if I was cold (the A/​C was blasting) and turned on the warming pad on the table for me– so cozy!
Our massage started on time. We were completely uninterrupted. We couldn’t hear any outside noises. Our masseuses were professional — they kept us well draped, there was no talking or giggling or whispering or phone answering etc. They stayed in the room the whole time. There was nearly constant connection, except when she stopped to grab the AMAZING hot stones or hot towels (a free add in surprise — delightful). The massage lasted exactly 60 minutes, and also at precisely the same time as my husbands (not keeping score, but I had a couples massage at a different place where my lady left 10 minutes before his was done.) I really enjoyed my massage, the whole experience was lovely and I will definitely return. My husband also enjoyed his experience, describing it as «super relaxing», but regrets not asking for a firmer/​deep tissue massage.
We payed the regular (fantastic) price of $ 49 each per hour, and each tipped $ 11 (total of $ 120). I saw a sign after paying suggesting $ 15 tip and felt conflicted. I don’t feel like 22% is being cheap, but I also really enjoyed the services I received and want the staff to feel like they did a great job. We’ll be back. — Oh and Pattaya Thai is right across the street if you’re looking for a snack afterward ;)

Had a great couples massage. Super friendly and clean. Great prices. The owner, Sandy, gave me an awesome deep tissue massage. She really knows what she is doing.

I had a great experience here. I walked in and the woman at the front desk was friendly. Then I went to the room and was greeted by Kevin, who asked me if I had any injuries or places of concern. I told him my back and shoulders needed extra work because I was super tight. He did exactly that. The thing I appreciated the most was that he didn’t JUST spend time on my neck or back. He spent a lot of time on my neck and back but told me everything was connected so he made sure to hit every muscle group. He made every minute count and really worked hard to work out my knots and loosen my back.
I have a super tight back and so I need to be massaged very firmly. I have been massaged by many other people and haven’t been satisfied with their «touch.» Kevin was great at that. He had firm hands and was very attentive to how I was feeling along the way. I will definitely be coming back.

This place is a gem! Ive been searching for a while for a great massage place. From the receptionist to the massage therapist everyone was super nice. Willmette and coco were amazing! Hot stone massage was awesome!

Went for a message and it was so bad I actually left crying.
I haven’t had a massage so bad and disappointing in my life. I went with my friend and they were also very upset. I’ve talked so wonderful about this place.
I will never ever ever go back.
It was so bad I left and actually went to another place to get another massage because I felt like the massage I had here was just rubbing half assed oil on me with no pressure and people kept coming in my room and asking my massage therapist to come outside to talk to them. The music was too loud and I could hear other people talking loudly in the halls.

I booked a last minute massage after I read some reviews online. My massage began on time and Julie my masseuse was great. She has very strong hands and great deep tissue technique. Definitely not for the faint of heart though, I had to pay attention to my breathing to allow her elbows to really reach deep within my back and into my shoulder blades.
I purchased a 90 min massage for $ 75 and tipped $ 15. I even got a few hot stones added which was a nice surprise. Julie checked in with me often regarding how much pressure she was using. She really worked on my knots and it was by far the BEST MASSAGE I have received in months. Highly recommend Julie.

I called this afternoon to see if they had any openings and they got me in within 15 minutes. I got the $ 49 special and it was worth every penny. Coco was the one who did my massage and she was great and thorough through the entire 70 minute massage. Highly recommend!

I was excited to come here because of the previous reviews and I had gotten a gift certificate to come here.
I came in on a Wednesday night and there was a kid playing in the lobby and who I presumed was the owner. She greeted me but kept paying attention to the kid which was slightly annoying. After I finally got into a room, Willamette (sp?) greeted me and made me feel very comfortable.
The massage began and it was great. It was a 70min with hot stones. Until SOMEONE KNOCKED ON THE DOOR AND INTERRUPTED THE MASSAGE. My masseuse proceeded out the door and left the room for a few minutes… Needless to say it ruined the rest of the massage because all I was thinking about was how rude and disruptive that was.
As she was checking me out she asked how my massage was and I told her great besides the interruption. She apologized and explained that another masseuse was checking out another customer and didn’t know how to work the register so my masseuse had to take care of it. Wow.
The massage was fine but the running kids and interruptions aren’t worth coming here. Just seems like a careless owner that doesn’t know how to cross train employees. Oh well, won’t be coming back!

Yesterday, I gave Rainwater Spa a try as my normal masseuse was unavailable. I was pleasantly surprised by the cheerful welcome I received when I entered. I arrived when the spa opened and wasn’t able to get right in but was able to make an appointment in the early afternoon. When I returned, they took me right in. I was able to spend a few moments with Willette, my masseuse for the session. She was thorough in explaining the modalities that she specializes in and then promptly went to work on my aching back. Willette demonstrated the perfect pressure and was extremely intuitive with the areas that needed attention. I chose a combination of Swedish and deeper tissue massage. Willette is very capable with both modalities. In addition, she has an easy going personality and supports a holistic approach to health.
The spa is very clean with an updated appearance. I will definitely return to Rainwater Spa and have Willette work her magic.

I used to think this was a great spa UNTIL yesterday. The older woman at the front desk was extremely offensive when it came time to pay. I was using a gift certificate. I was short on cash to give a tip to my very competent masseuse, Nicole. I gave the cash I had to her and she went into a tirade.
She DEMANDED I pay a $ 15 tip on a $ 50, 60 –minute massage. There was a sign on the counter that said the SUGGESTED tip was 20%, then she said that was $ 15. Actually, 20% is $ 1O NOT $ 15. She went on to say the tip went to all the staff. I told her that I know how to tip. I also said the sign said it was a suggestion. I’m ashamed to say I handed her a credit card and she put $ 15 on it. I told her she needed to learn how to deal with people and that I would NOT be coming back. She was very aggressive and very combative. It turned into a very unpleasant day for me.

After a busy and stressful holiday season I found myself all knotted up. Saturday morning I decided I needed a day of pampering. Glen Ivy used to be my spa of choice but after years of increased prices and long commutes I decided to abandon that location a few years ago. I live in North County and wanted to find a go-​to spa close to home.
Realizing I’d be giving up the sauna, Jacuzzi, pool experience I started looking on Unilocal for a highly rated massage location. Rainwater Spa had excellent reviews plus a special. I booked that morning at 10 am for a 12:30 massage and facial that same day.
The facial was basic (if you’re wanting a facial to tackle an issue — this is not the place for you) and wonderful. Annie worked on me the entire hour (not just 50 minutes) and I was soooo relaxed I didn’t want to move. Which, as it turns out, I didn’t have to. Julie, who was the masseuse came into the room and my massage began. A seamless transition.
Julie was wonderful. I told Annie I wanted a mixture of Swedish and Deep Tissue massage. She must have relayed the information to Julie as I didn’t have to speak a word. Julie was amazing — finding knots for deep tissue work while applying Swedish relaxing massage in other areas.
While I was checking out, and booking my next appointment, I learned that when booking multiple treatments your are normally placed with the same therapist. Imagine my dilemma trying to choose between two wonderful technicians!
I had a wonderful experience, the prices are amazing for the services received and I’ve found my go-​to spa!

They did such a fantastic job for my boyfriend and I while we had a couples massage. They took care of our tense spots and really made sure we were comfortable. My lower back is ticklish, but my masseuse made sure she applied enough pressure or avoided areas that were too sensitive.
Like any massage, you need to make your trouble spots known so they can adjust accordingly. I love this place and definitely plan to go back!

My fiancé and I exclusively go to Rainwater Spa for massages. They are professional, thorough, and excellent at what they do. Even better, the prices are actually very reasonable compared to other massage parlors. I would highly recommend Rainwater to anyone.

Unilocal, you’ve disappointed me. Then again, maybe my expectations for what a good massage is let me down.
I came here after weeks driving between SD/​OC/​LA. My lower back is shot because of it. The name of Rainwater Spa seems elegant enough, and with so many good reviews I signed up for their $ 49 massage + hot stone special. I’ve always thought hot stone was what they show in pics, where they align the stones on your back. Again, one of the many assumptions proved wrong on this visit.
I should’ve known something was wrong when she didn’t ask where my pain was. I saw in past reviews that they give you a form to identify your pain, but nope. When I laid down I realized this was a reflexology massage. It wasn’t specified in the special, so I assumed, with hot stone, it would be Swedish at the least. No reflexology is worth $ 49; there are spas that do this for $ 20.
Her touch was cold and not inviting. It’s as if she was rushing through with unintentional movements. I asked her once to make her pressure harder and she didn’t. At this point I just gave up.
The only good part of this massage was how she attacked the knots in my shoulders. But that’s the only good thing. Plus, she spent about 80% of the time there, maybe this is a reflexology thing? Everything else was rushed and not intentional. And the stones? It’s basically dragging hot stones across your back and knocking it against your neck, I almost started laughing.
I’ve never looked forward to a massage’s end. I, too, like another reviewer, left with a headache. I am too much of a wuss to express disappointment in services, especially when they spend so much time on it, so I still coughed up a tip because I felt bad. So I lost out on $ 60, more than an hour, and still have pain.
They’re nice enough but I won’t be returning, and I still have yet to find a worthy massage parlor in San Diego.

Absolutely terrible experience here! I came here with super high hopes (bc of all the good ratings) and I left here with a headache. My masseuse was kevin, an older asian man. My last regular masseuse was male, so this was a non-​issue. I was very excited bc I really needed a massage and the price was reasonable.
The outside of this business looks very nice. It is easy to find and the rooms are nicely set up. It seems all the more promising because it is in a nice neighborhood. I was able to schedule an appointment within two hours of calling. I had a feeling I was chancing it since I did not specifically request other masseuses that people have recommended. Last time I make that mistake.
As I sit in my car right after my massage, I now have pain in my neck and a headache. My masseuse was very friendly but his technique was absolutely terrible. My biggest pet peeve with this guy that I kept asking him for less pressure or actually jumping up in pain, and he would go over the same area again and again saying «tight tight». Actually wait I have another pet peeve: when more Bone is being massaged then muscles.
I have been suckered by places before where I did not have a satisfying massage and yet guilt lead me to tip out the masseuse anyway. This was not one of those times. The woman who checked me out asked me how my massage was and I told her it was «terrible». I let her know that I thought about walking out within the first 30 minutes, but I held out in hopes it would get better. She gave me $ 10 off and made a big deal about giving me a coupon which would give me another $ 10 off for my next massage. HA HA. So instead of losing $ 50 to a terrible massage, instead I lost $ 40.
Will not be coming back here anytime soon. Next time I am experiencing a bad massage, I promise myself I will slither out of the room buck ass naked and leave an oily trail to my car, before I ever settle for a bad massage (LIKE THIS ONE) again.

Fantastic massage! I came here after Comic Con & my whole body was aching & in dire need of a massage. I previously found out about this place on Unilocal & luckily saw that they had a deal on Groupon!
Groupon — 90 minute aromatherapy massage with mini hot stone treatment & a facial mask for $ 55!
I got an appointment the same day that I called & was seen by Annie (or Anna) & she was amazing! She worked out my kinks & made sure that she was giving me the right around of pressure that I needed. What I loved about this place was that the massage room was quiet. You could not hear what was happening outside, which is so annoying at other places who have paper thin walls.
I will definitely come back again!

This experience was amazing! I came here on my birthday to treat myself and it was definitely worth it. They have a fantastic deal right now for a 70 minute full body massage with mini hot stone treatment for $ 49. I had Nicole as my masseuse and she was great, very nice and accommodating. The ambience was nice and relaxing and it felt very clean. They were really friendly when I called to schedule my appointment also. I’ll definitely be back here in the future!

I chose this spa after reading reviews and I am so happy I did. I opted for the 3 course special and oh my goodness was it wonderful. Nicole was my therapist for all 3 services and she did all of them in the same room (which was great as I didn’t have to get dressed or move a muscle for 2.5 hours!)
I left feeling SO relaxed and will definitely go back!
