I own a wedding planning and coordinating company based in San Diego, CA. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Richard about 5 years ago when I was first starting out as a wedding planner. It was great to work with him then, and it was great to work with him again at a wedding last night. Richard and his assistant are lively, upbeat, and great fun to work with. They excelled at organizing the crowd of guests to get the photos the Bride and Groom wanted. And it was wonderful to be able to trust them with the timeline that we had drawn up and know that they would work within that timeline to get the photos that they needed, and still have the couple feel relaxed and not rushed at all. I can’t wait to see the photos when they are done. I’m sure they will be amazing just like they were last time!

I met Richard at the Bridal Bazaar in downtown San Diego and he was one of the last photographers I spoke to. We started talking and we hit it off almost immediately. It was one of the rare occasions where you meet someone you felt you’ve known for years. I then scheduled a sit down meeting with him and one with another local photographer. While both did amazing work, I just felt that Richard was really excited and eager and ready for the job, so I hired him. It was a great decision because working with him throughout the wedding planning process was so much fun, and seamless!
We did our engagement shoot with him and they turned out awesome! Richard made us feel comfortable in front of the camera and taught us some valuable posing techniques. He critiqued us during our shoot and helped us find out good sides in front of the camera.
We worked together and made a plan for the wedding day. The ceremony was at Founders Chapel and the reception at the El Cortez. Yes, the wedding day was crazy. It was also the best day of our lives, and Richard captured EVERY moment of it. Richard doesn’t miss a beat. So many people at the wedding commented on how he was everywhere. He is extremely thorough and does anything and everything necessary to get the shot. And he got tons of amazing shots! I couldn’t be more happy with our wedding photos.
Beyond being an amazing photographer, he is a really cool guy that my husband and I laughed with and had beers with, and we look forward to hanging with him again. You will not be disappointed with Richard and his work!

We were first introduced to Richard at our friend’s wedding. We loved how he was every where taking pictures every time our friends got together for a shot.
My now husband and I wanted just that for our wedding so hired him for our June 20 2014 wedding at the Catamaran. BEST CHOICE EVER!!! He was familiar with the property so knew exactly where to go and where to get the perfect shots. ALL of our guests loved him because he was very interactive with our guests and captured every shot from candid to those most important shots. He’s very professional, yet easy to get along with so the chemistry was perfect to for those genuine photos.
I highly recommend him. You WILL be very very pleased and satisfied for what he does.

My then-​fiancé (now wife) and I were introduced to Richard at the Bridal Bazaar by our invitation vendor who had hired RHS Photo for her own wedding a few years ago. Immediately upon talking to Richard, we all just clicked and we knew that Richard is someone we could easily work with for the big day. It was very important to us to find vendors that we could easily get along with and that were also within budget (especially when planning a wedding). RHS Photo certainly went above and beyond our expectations!
We got married on June 1^st, 2013 in San Diego at an outdoor lawn ceremony in front of 75 guests. Richard and his assistant were with us for the whole day: getting ready in the morning, first look at the hotel we were staying at, then off for a 3.5-hour pre-​ceremony photo shoot around San Diego with us and our 6-​member wedding party. We had already discussed with him our ideas for doing a pre-​ceremony photo safari, and he was able to help us refine our 3 choices and guide us through suggestions. At the ceremony and reception, he and his assistant did an amazing job in capturing every moment. There are so many pictures from that day it is very difficult to pick our top favorites!
Richard is a true professional, and made us instantly feel like we had known him forever. HIs approachable nature, sense of humor, knowledge of the industry, and direct style of communicating were a refreshing change from other vendors we had chatted with at these Bridal Bazaar events. He deftly managed my then-fiancé’s Type-​A over-​achieving perfectionist personality without batting an eye :)
For our engagement photo shoot in mid-​October 2012, we went to three different places around San Diego and had different outfit changes at each location. My then-​fiancé was nervous about the photo shoot and couldn’t relax in front of the camera, constantly wondering if the photos would turn out well. Richard just chatted with us, made us laugh, told me to make her laugh, and by the end of the photo session, we were all smiles.
Less than a week ago (late August 2013), my now-​wife met with Richard for a fitness photo shoot to celebrate her successfully accomplishing her first half-​marathon. I could tell she had a lot of fun doing this photo shoot, and it was fantastic to work with Richard again.
We strongly recommend him to everyone! His work is impeccable, his website is easy to navigate, but most importantly, Richard is a professional that understands people, isn’t afraid to ask questions, and knows how to make the big day even better than possibly imagined. As my wife says, «Clients for life! Can’t wait to work with Richard again!»

We booked Richard for our destination wedding in La Jolla without ever having met, and we LOVED Richard’s work! He was always very easy to communicate with, and even recommended other reputable businesses in the area for flowers, hair, etc since we weren’t familiar with the area.
Richard’s service was beyond our expectations and the pictures were beautiful too! He was able to make us feel comfortable in front of the camera, and kept us laughing.
I would certainly recommend him!

My wife and I were married on May 31^st, 2012. Richard was our photographer. He was incredible.
His website is very easy to navigate and his photos are wonderful.
At the wedding he and his staff went above and beyond what I would have ever expected.
He is a professional who really understands people and what makes them happy. I knew that after meeting him and now after having worked with his company.
I had a dear friend become an ordained minister for the wedding, I hired friends to play violin. I even hired chef friends to cook. I was very nervous about bringing in an unknown photographer. After interviewing a few candidates, Richard made me feel most comfortable. He is natural and not contrived.
My peeve is going to weddings where the minister tells the same stale jokes that he uses at every wedding. The photographers use their same tricks and the food is continental and bland. I was lucky to have had a photographer who made my wife and I feel special.
My only regret is failing to serve his assistant a plated dinner at the wedding. She worked so hard and was equally as helpful as Richard.
I will continue to recommend RHS to my closest friends.

This photographer is amazing. So far we have only done our Engagement photos with Richard, but they have come out sooooo beautifully. He is such a fun guy to work with, cracking jokes and just making a photo shoot a pleasurable experience. He also has great customer service. The weather wasn’t really working in our favor for the photo shoot, we had to re-​schedule it three time. But Richard was great about working around our schedule and producing such awesome photos of my fiancé and me! Thanks Richard, looking forward to the Wedding photos!

Short version: We hired Richard to for an engagement session and as our wedding photographer. He did an awesome job and words can’t express how happy we are with our photos, he’s worth every penny.
Long version: We started a good 8 months ahead of time looking for a photographer. I am an amateur photographer and in this situation this means 3 things: First, I’m very picky when it comes to photography, Second, I know enough to see through the BS you get from a lot photographers, and Third, whoever we picked would have to put up with me (every amateur thinks they know more then they actually do).
When you pick a photographer and most other services for your wedding, you aren’t just buying a product or service, a lot of work goes into contracts, preparation, etc. You need to make sure the contract works for you, and you need to make sure the contract contains exactly what you want the vendor to do and not do, it is not something to take lightly. Richard was extremely accommodating, and made it easy to get through the contract process.
We had our engagement session 5 months before our wedding. Most engagement sessions offered by photographers are expected to be an hour. We met Richard in Balboa Park around 6, and he was ours for the night. We spent an hour there, and then headed to downtown, we proceeded to walk all over Horton Plaza, Gas Lamp and the Convention Center and a few streets in between, he just kept asking, «Where else do you want to go?» We finished around 9:30 that night and we had a blast.
The whole time, Richard was talking gear and photo technique to me; he was very encouraging with my photography, instead of just putting up with me like most people would do.
Our wedding was small, and was at the Martin Johnson House on UCSD’s campus overlooking La Jolla and Scripps pier, the views are breathtaking and is well situated for a small to mid-​sized wedding. Part of our reason for picking Richard was that he was familiar with this location. He was money, he knew the ins and outs of the location, and just as with the engagement session he was more then willing to go anywhere and take whatever shots we want. We had a great time with him and he stayed until the very end of the wedding.
We can’t recommend Richard enough, we love our photos, he’s awesome, thank you again for doing such a great job.

Richard did our elopement photos in August. Ryan and I loved him and our beautiful photos. Our family that wasn’t ablto attend loved looking at the online gallery. Thank you for making our day so wonderful and capturing so many beautiful pictures.

I saw these two bad reviews that can be seen while another 20 Woohoo’s have been filtered. So, I wanted to write another review for RHS Photo. We LOVE-​LOVE-​LOVE our wedding pictures. Totally recommend reading the filtered reviews.
We interviewed my top 3 photographers and while they all had their good points, Richard made us feel comfortable.
We had a wedding of over 400 guest and we booked him for the entire day. He was quick and efficient when it came to taking pictures in the church, we had a small window before we had to leave.
Preparing for a wedding can be quite stressful, Richard will keep you calm while capturing all the special moments that you might not even think of. I would recommend adding him to your list of photographers to interview.

My husband and I decided to runaway from Washington D.C. to get married in San Diego in August 2010. We had never been to California before and had no contacts in San Diego so we were planning our trip based on google searches. Although we had already booked our wedding package with another company, we really wanted some engagement photos taken while we were in town. We were fortunate enough to come across RHS. We were both impressed with Richard’s online protfolio and price sheet. Richard was very knowledgable about photography and about the location of our shoot. He was a lot of fun to work with, the turnaround time for our pictures was reasonable, and the pictures came out AWESOME! We would highly recommend Richard. Our only regret was that we didn’t find him until after we booked our wedding package. Our engagement pictures turned out better than the wedding pictures that someone else took.

Richard did an amazing job with our wedding and engagement photos! He found a bunch of great unique locations at Balboa Park for engagement pics. For the wedding he knew exactly where to take the best shots at the Admiral Kidd Club and Cabrillo Monument. We couldn’t have been more pleased. He was personable and easy to get along with. Friends and family loved his sense of humor! He listened to what we wanted and it was evident in the final product. We would recommend him to anyone looking for a wedding photographer!

We got married in May ’09 in Marin County, CA and we couldn’t have been happier with RHS Photo and Richard! We were first introduced to Richard when my older sister hired him to shoot her engagement and wedding pictures. After seeing her engagement pictures, we had him shoot our engagement pictures when we were visiting San Diego from Northern California for my sister’s wedding in October ’08. The engagements were shot all around Balboa Park and turned out so beautiful!
Our wedding was at the Marin Art & Garden Center in Ross, CA. Richard had never been to the site until the day of the wedding, but you’d never know that looking at the pictures! His sense of humor made everyone from our bridal party to our family and friends so relaxed and at ease, it made formal pictures a breeze for everyone. Richard captured our personalities and those of each member of our bridal party in his pictures. They were funny, touching, and ultra cool! Richard is an amazing photographer and it was a pleasure working with him. We couldn’t be happier with our pictures!

Our wedding was on April 12, 2008. Well first off I’d like to mention that I am the groom and just about pooped in my pants after receiving the news that the cost wedding photography far exceeded my expectations. What was even more shocking was how absolutely beautiful the photos turned out. The quality and sheer beauty of the photos is well worth the money and (corny as it sounds) is priceless. We even ordered a 20×30 gallery wrapped canvas print that is just breath taking. We receive countless comments on how beautiful the photography is and continue to recommend him to everybody we know.
Richard was recommended to us by one of my friends and we can’t thank him enough for his referral. We interviewed several photographers and decided that Richard was best suited for the job. We only had him do our wedding photos, but for our family that amounted to over 600 photos (yes I said 600 photos just of the wedding)!!! We had an estimated 400 guests and our photo-​shoot consisted of 4 locations, bride getting ready, church ceremony, wedding-​party pictures in Coronado and finally the reception. Richard was an absolute pleasure to work with and I definitely plan on using his wonderful service again.

Our wedding was on November 22, 2008 and we can’t stop looking at our wedding pictures and we show them off to ALL of our friends! We love all of them so much … We are having a really hard time narrowing down which ones to include in our photo album!
Richard is very professional, responsive, honest and straight to the point. We LOVED having him as our photographer! He’s very easy to work with and he makes taking pictures fun! My husband doesn’t like being photographed … but around Richard he felt very comfortable. That says A LOT!
