Rock Thrift Store

This place is so great! Something for everyone of every age and stage! So many books! The small items make amazing gifts for every occasion, and my little girls love to visit and look at the books and toys and the lovely décor!

Can’t believe I don’t already have a review for this! It’s one of my favorites and whenever I’m in the area, I make a point to stop in. And I’ve noticed they’ve started a discount schedule for different days of the week and still do punch cards! Besides that, I’ve just found so many awesome treasures here. And they will give you military discount so don’t forget to ask. Some things I feel are priced a bit high but for the most part it’s fair. The customer service is always gracious and I love praise music as I shop:) what could be better?

Small store, organized. Because its small there is limited selection. Pricing is ok, but have seen better at other thrift stores. Could be wrong timing but very limited selection on mens clothing and shoes. Seems to be a decent collection of furniture which also seemed to be in good condition. Salvation Army across the street is much bigger

I totally dig this store! I came in here to find some second hand tennis rackets for the kids. What do you know… They had a bunch of them! We picked up 3 rackets for $ 8. The store was very clean, smelled good, and the customer service was great too!

PATHETIC CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! And when I say «Pathetic» I mean the ppl that work there are rude, incompetent and untruthful. I will never EVER be going to «rock thrift store» again and I will make sure all of my friends or family know that this is not a good store to go to.
ADVICE FOR THE OWNER OF «Rock Thrift Store»
Your employees (2 Mexican girls, and Asian boy) do NOT «Rock» they SUCK. Hire friendly new people that are more concerned with good customer service and making your store more money by capturing every sale rather than lying on the phone and closing your store early. Good luck.

This is a smaller thrift store, but very well-​kept and the employees are friendly. The furniture is priced a lot cheaper than those I have seen at Salvation Army, but then again they have a very small selection. It is easily overseen as there is a large Salvation Army just across the street, at which customers even line up to before opening time. I had only noticed it because of my trip to Pet Kingdom next door. Prices for clothes and accessories are decent as well, so why not take a look? Never know what you may find.

One of the best thrift stores ive been to so far in SD. They have a good selection of modern kitchenware. I got a lot of things for my apartment from this place.

I was really disappointed when I walked in here… my girlfriend and I drove by here after the swap meet and were really excited because we thought it was a secondhand outdoor equipment store. Alas, it was not. Don’t be fooled by the name; this store has absolutely nothing to do with the outdoors. All together not a bad thrift store though and I actually bought some old school toys for a great price!

Went there today and couldn’t buy my fiancé a pair a pants with my voucher because they said it wasn’t for me and I wasn’t in need of them. For one I should be able to buy whatever I want with MY voucher!!! And the guy that helped me was very rude. Of course my fiancé was in need for a pair of jeans that’s why I was buying them. And he tried to put a bigger price on the jeans I was going to buy him they were 8 $ and he wanted to sell them for 12 $. I didn’t like my service there.

Really enjoy stopping by to find deals. I have purchased a lot of good books, hats, shirts, toys. Also great organization to donate to!

This place is super tiny, very clean, with friendly service. Unfortunately the selection is seriously sparse and over priced.

I am a woman in my 30s and sometimes I go to thrift stores to save money, since San Diego has such a high cost of housing.
I went here about 3 times during the past year, only because I was at Animal Kingdom next door. I didn’t make a special trip for this place.
For a church so large as the Rock Church, there is nothing much in this store! They hardly have anything good in there! A few dishes, old fashioned dresses and old fashioned purses that are out of style. Not many children’s toys.
The UCP in Pacific Beach has way more merchandise donated than this place.
You would think all those church women patrons from the Rock Church who rock all those dresses and nice shoes and purses would donate it here! But no! Nothing cute here for a women to wear!
Looks like the church girls of Rock Church don’t really want to donate their used clothes here to help their own community!

I liked this place because it was super clean and organized… a huge deal to me when it comes to thrift stores. I wasn’t thrilled with some of the prices, though, especially for the clothes. I wouldn’t mind paying those prices for name brands, but all I could find were very cheap brands, I.E. Wal-​Mart. I ended up buying a large Canvas print for $ 25 which I found to be a really good deal. The furniture is hit and miss, some is very expensive and some not so expensive. Definitely not the cheapest thrift store I’ve ever been to, but worth checking out anyway! And if it helps out a church, I’m all for that.

Rock Thrift Store is where my roommate and I bought couches for my condo. I only plan on having them for about a year, but I didn’t want to get anything that would degrade the appearance of the space. I was reluctant to get anything used, but I also didn’t want to spend a lot of money since they are only a temporary solution.
We went into Rock Thrift not knowing what to expect for prices, and we spotted our first sofa for $ 25.00! It’s a super nice soft woven mustard/​tan fabric, with nice lines and details, about 90 inches wide, SUPER comfortable, clean, and it looks like very high quality. While we were checking out at the register, we noticed another couch we liked in very good condition and that couch was only $ 50.
The staff was very friendly and nice and although they don’t deliver, they recommended a delivery service/​mover named Jason. He is great– very professional and super affordable.
All in all with the delivery to my downtown condo it cost under $ 200.00 for two beautiful couches including $ 20.00 tips to the delivery guys.
This was so much better than I was expecting! I am very pleased and will check back there for other interim furniture for sure!

This place is SO clean!
I’m shocked every time I go in here. They constantly have new stuff, it’s clean and everyone is so nice! There are some items priced «high» for a thrift store, but still inexpensive in the scheme of things.
Most of the people working are volunteers and they are so kind.
I love that all the proceeds go to Outreach’s in the community like Homeless, victims of Domestic Violence, Elder Care, Dog Adoptions, etc.
So cool! If you haven’t stopped in, check it out!

I have volunteered here before for school and evdryone was really nice.
Really nice stuff gets donated too sometimes like brand new clothes or appliances with the tags and boxes n stuff. They even try and help out anyone who is having troubles which is nice.
The reason I give it two stars is because of the selfishness of the workers/​employees. I have seen almost every employee grab nice things people donate and buy them before they are even priced or put on the floor. For people that consider themselves Christians or whatever thats scandalous.

I was on the hunt for a new crockpot, because the one that I already have was too big. So, since I was in Pt. Loma, I decided to hit up the thrift stores. Goodwill had nothing, so I as I was headed over to Salvation Army, I saw The Rock Thrift Store, so I went in. Sitting on a sheft was exactly what I wanted, plus it was within my price range, so I paid for it, and walked out the door with it.
But Salvation Army is still my favorite thrift store, even though I didn’t make it that day.

I don’t understand why people are so angry with this place? Ok they are *slightly* overpriced — BUT THEY USE THE MONEY FOR OUTREACHES IN THE COMMUNITY — NOT THE CHURCH! hello??? They use the $ to give to others, like homeless, children, people in need, etc.
People hate the Rock because people hate. I find it such an oxymoron how people and ‘christians’ evaluate a Christian place — with hate. Wow. If you have an opinion please share but do so with love, otherwise your no better than what your trying to discredit.
On a side note, I got a French-​cuffed designer dress shirt brand new from Nordstroms for $ 5. Yes $ 5. Now I have a nice shirt to interview in after coming home from the mission field so I can find income until returning.

That Pastor Miles McPherson is as clever as a fox! With a 12,000+ group of Rock Church parishioners listening to him exhort the faithful to «Do Something» week-​in-​and-​week-​out, The Rock Church is now opening up a Thrift Store. The Church is requesting and accepting «first fruits» donations at the nearby Launch Pad area which will be used to stock the Rock Thrift Store-​set to open May 22, 2010.
The location is the old Tom Foolery Sports Bar in Scandia Plaza.
This little shopping center is also home to the Pet Kingdom Pet Store, and is a tricky place to shop at and get in and out of. On the weekends and during big events at the nearby Sports Arena, you can sit for a few minutes waiting for a chance to exit out of that crazy driveway. Even more proof of that crafty Pastor Miles-​this new thrift store is placed within the Golden Triangle of Thrift Stores: Goodwill is right across the street on Rosecrans and the Salvation Army’s located a few blocks south on Sports Arena. This will be a thrift store lover’s trolling paradise!
According to Margaret, who was over-​seeing the installing of cabinetry in the soon-​to-​open store, The Rock Thrift Store will be open daily from 9 – 6 and will be selling the usual clothes, jewelry, shoes, accessories, and books. I imagine they will also have furniture. Since most of their donations are now coming from the somewhat prosperous church-​going members, there should be some pretty cool stuff to peruse.
My only concern, and why I had to deduct 1 star from an otherwise stellar 5 Star Rock Church Unilocal tradition is that problematic parking lot. I have to say I hate it! If it wasn’t for all the pets I have accumulated for my kids over the years that need supplies from Pet Kingdom, I would surely steer clear of that Scandia Plaza. I hope that with the surge in cars that Rock Thrift will surely bring, some kinds of traffic calming and traffic-​friendly ideas will come into play.
With the Thrift store looking for volunteers who «want to do something,
the Church promises lots of opportunities «to help.» That means most of the labor will be working for free so a majority of the profits can filter right back into the Church coffers. I suppose that with Pastor Miles opening a a North County Rock Church satellite and the big May «Miles Ahead» Ministry trip to the Cayman Islands, a lucrative funding vessel such as a quality Thrift Store is right about what God has ordered for this mega-​Church! May God also Bless the Scandia Parking lot and make it so the Rock Thrift does not get the neighboring tenants all jacked up over parking issues like over at that darn ungrateful Liberty Station!
