San Carlos Recreation Center

Tried going back again today. She completely ignored me an a fellow named Ed or Eddie assisted me with questions. Still don’t know her name. But she has the people skills of a mongoose!

Although it has been around for a long time, many things have changed over the years and typically for the better.
When I was younger this place used to be the local park for playing basketball, baseball, football. That’s pretty much the same, they still have the lower field for baseball, an indoor basketball court, an outdoor basketball court, and another grass field for football & soccer.
This is a premier destination for family little league sports which will use these fields a couple days out of the week during the appropriate season.
They’ve updated the playground equipment since the days when I used to play there (forever ago) so now it’s new and updated. From what I’ve noticed, the place feel much safer from when I used to go there but maybe that’s just because I’m grown up now and don’t have to worry about bullies. :p Anyway, there is still an area behind the place where the storm drain runs, which can still be the hangout for some undesirables but for the most part I think it is far better than it was in the past.
Overall, this is a cool little outdoor park great for tons sports/​activities, has picnic benches and appears to be maintained well. It’s a great little family spot.

On the edge of La Mesa and San Diego is the nice community of San Carlos. When you primarily work in East County, specifically El Cajon, it strikes you just how badly green spaces are needed there but I digress.
Fortunately I am usually here in the mornings. Parking is no problem and the park is spacious and has a couple of basketball courts, a baseball field and several tables. More than a few people come here and my daughter is never bored whether kids are here or not.
If you have anything resembling a drumstick, bring it. You kid (s) can play the drums and ring the bells! It is a very nice park and good complement to Jackson and Aztec park nearby.

Anyone remember the metal wall climbing slide thing? Well there is a new (improved?) play structure here now. But there is still much fun to be had.
Basketball courts (indoor and outdoor), baseball fields, ping-​pong, fooseball, ballet classes. WEE.
Come to the concession stand for delicious SLUSH PUPPIES! Anyone remember those? They still have those frosty treats here at the rec center.
