Specialties

The San Diego Art Loft is a combination between an art school and an art studio. It recalls the spirit of the Atelier. I also call it a teaching studio. The San Diego Art Loft is a working artist’s studio, open to the public for classes, workshops, and events. Our offerings include painting, drawing, youth programs, workshops and art labs, events and parties, private lessons, art critiques, lectures and more. Come join us and paint… draw… connect!

History

Established in 2014.

After all my years making and teaching art, even managing an art school, my vision was clear. I wanted have my own little art school where my style of teaching is most appreciated and my passion for curriculum design can have a place to express itself. I wanted a place where I could carry out the kind of lessons and classes that could accommodate and inspire everybody. I wanted to develop a tightly knit artist community where people could join me in making, studying, teaching, and celebrating art. I wanted a space to function as a shared art studio and living room. Bright and airy, bold and funky, with a warm, cozy soft place to relax.

Meet the Business Owner

Elissa K.

Business Owner

I am a San Diego Painter, educator, and Owner of the San Diego Art Loft, a new teaching studio in San Diego. I hold a Master of Fine Art degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art. I have been on the faculties of five universities and colleges as well as many art studios and ateliers. I served as the manager of the Museum Art School for the San Diego Museum of Art. I am greatly influenced by the Renaissance masters and contemporary figurative painters. I am always drawn to portraiture and other figurative art. My philosophy is that art is ground on which many layers of the psyche can be expressed both literally and figuratively. It can unify by expressing the human experience using expressive faces and bodily gestures.
