As always a great performance. Saw Cinderella and we loved every minute of it. Our daughter is a student at SDCYB and she loves her time in class, performing and watching performances. Keep up the good work!!!

I can not give this program any stars as the staff was very rude and would not try to work with me on the limited time I had to volunteer for the spring recital. As a result my 5 year old was very hurt by not being included after she had been practicing for many weeks. Just because I did not have anyone to care for her after she was done with the rehearsal I could only volunteer for 2 hours instead of 4. They expected me to just leave her with one of the parents whom I did not even know. I would just prefer to pay for the costume. Maybe they should give that option too. Anyway we found a much better school in the LaMesa Rec. Center and the cost is less too. She is very happy there. Also the paking is impossible!

I will have to disagree with the parent that left a negative review about this wonderful school. My daughter is also in the Tiny Tots 4 – 5 year old program and loves it! I use to dance at the Prado as a child and only have positive memories and would only hope my daughter is having the same. I had no problem with the performance requirements (It insures uniformity, and parents should be involved since you are not paying a fee or buying a costume for your child to be in the recital) because the end result was beautiful.
I do agree this school may not be for everyone and it could be difficult for a parent who has never experienced this type of a dance school, they are more than entitled to their own opinions. But, overall I have only positive things to say about San Diego Civic Youth Ballet and will continue taking my daughter.

My daughter and I love this school, haven’t met a teacher that wasn’t phenomenal here. We’ve been going for a little over 2 years and not a single complaint, only compliments.

One of the best and most affordable ways to get some valuable classical dance training is to join the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet.
As stated in their Mission Statement: «Our mission is to serve the youth of San Diego with classical ballet training and performance opportunities for all.»
And that is just what they do. Since 1945, San Diego Civic Youth Ballet has been the resident ballet school. For over 60 years, they have molded the young into lean, mean dancing machines and not charged an arm-​and-​a-​leg in the process. The Youth Ballet has classes ranging from Tiny Tots to Boy’s Ballet and on up to the Upper Level. Many of their students have gone on to dance with various companies worldwide such as New York City Ballet, the Joffrey Ballet, and myself-​with the San Francisco Ballet.
Upper Level students will put on performances of such classics as Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and at the holiday’s-the annual Nutcracker. It is the Nutcracker that allows the Civic Youth Ballet to make use of all it’s students as they are all utilized in this multi-​faceted production near-​and-​dear to everyone’s hearts!
A ground floor room lined with barres and mirrors and performance space in The Prado is where the classes take place. It is not expensive to train with them, but even then-​there are scholarship opportunities to aide any child desirous of a dance education.
Right now on their website-​the Youth Ballet offers 1 free ballet class to see if it’s the thing for you. The Civic Youth Ballet is also proud to perform and participate in cultural events throughout the City of San Diego and they have outreach programs. Especially during the City School’s 5^th grade Balboa Park Field Trip’s– they are an important part of that learning experience.
While I attended UCSD, I took many modern dance classes but I fulfilled my yearning for ballet and classical dance here. Unfortunately, I had to deduct 1 star for lack of parking. Many evenings, I would have to drive around searching for a parking spot-​particularly if the Old Globe was having a big production or the Zonies were in town. That prowl to park often made me late to class and the victim of a nasty glance from Miss Natalia-​the teacher!
