Folk Heritage puts on concerts in Encinitas and Old Poway Park and sometimes that’s a bit far for this Hillcrest gal, but I do like the variety of musicians and have so far never been disappointed, even if its’ someone I haven’t heard of (Cephas and Wiggins, Alasdair Frasier). I HAVE heard of John McCutcheon, Laurie Lewis, Tom Paxton… and they have performed for this group. FH is an umbrella organization for folk arts so that includes contra dancing, storytelling, song circles, concerts and (small) festivals with locals and jamming. Worth a try.

My boyfriend and I went to a contra dance hosted by SD Folk Heritage last night. We are complete novices but the people there were incredibly friendly and helpful and taught us everything we needed to know as we went along. The live music was wonderful — overall a well organized, fun, welcoming event. We will be back!
