San Diego Futures Foundation [SDFF] is San Diego’s technology nonproft. We help low-income individuals, families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, nonprofits, nonprofits’ employees, and small disadvantaged businesses. We provide IT Tech Services, PC repairs, computers, support center, digital literacy training, digital media services [web development, video, animation, website maintenance], and FREE e-recycling.
We believe FREE Recycling of your electronics is good for the environment and GREAT for San Diego. We’ve recycled more than 1.5 million pounds of e-waste. FREE. Seriously. That’s 1.5 million pounds which didn’t end up in our dumps and landfills. We request and rely on your donations of end-of-life equipment. We repurpose and refurbish it, and provide it for those in need.
History
Established in 1999.
The San Diego Futures Foundation (SDFF) is a 501©3 nonprofit that helps improve access to computers and services. We do this by expanding access to computers and education, youth training, and services for nonprofits.
In 1999, the County of San Diego, under the visionary leadership of the County Board of Supervisors, outsourced all their IT and telecommunications services. At the time, this was the largest state or local government technology privatization project in the United States. The County realized that as it began transforming itself by providing services online instead of «in line,» it was critical that the citizens of San Diego County, particularly the underserved populations, have access to the new «e-government» services and requisite training necessary to participate in today’s increasingly technological world.
Today, SDFF is supported, in large part, by Hewlett Packard, the company holding the current County of San Diego information technology contract.
