San Diego Gas and Electric Summer Saver Program

I have been self enrolled in the Summer Saver Program for three summers. The past two summers went off without a hitch. Yes it was uncomfortable the few days that they took complete control of my AC but then they would turn the AC back on by 6pm and I was usually at work. At 6pm you can still cool the house down after you regained your AC before going to bed. Plus the $ 95 credit on my winter bill was a nice bonus.
HOWEVER, the summer of 2015 they changed all the rules! First of all the notification system didn’t work. The first day they switched off my AC I had not received a heads up so I thought that my AC was broke. I called a repairman. While I was waiting for him to show up I tried to diagnosis the problem only to find out that SDG&E had control of my system. «Oh we’re sorry!» The second time was the same story. Somehow their Notification process failed on more than just these two occasions. Namely this past Friday — October 9^th. I had spent an amazing 1.5 hours in traffic getting home only to find that the AC was off until 7pm! IF I had been informed ahead of time I would have stayed in the beach area and not tried to get home!!! «Oh, we’re sorry!»
Today is October 13^th and I did get an notice — they are going to take control of my AC until 8PM tonight. YES you read that correctly 8PM!!! Are you kidding me??? What the heck are we suppose to do until 8PM??? The AC is going to work overtime to try and cool the house off by maybe midnight??? What happened to the days of 6pm?
What is the reward you ask — it must be a super GREAT reward for having to suffer 15 times this summer letting SDG&E turn off my air. [Yes yes, I know that I signed up for this — I was trying to do the ‘right thing’ and help Joe Public] Well, hold on tight —- I will be awarded a whole $ 95.00 on my winter bill. Yeah, big deal $ 95!!! Now if you were talking $ 195 I would totally NOT be complaining here. But honestly $ 95 are you kidding me — that is almost nothing for 15 days of 100+ degree weather and NO AIR CONDITIONING.
Why didn’t I cancel? Today is the 15^th day. Wouldn’t that be shooting myself in the foot at this point?
I can promise Joe Public this; Summer of 2016 I will NOT be on this program, not for a whopping credit of $ 95!
IT IS NOT WORTH IT. Unless they altered their times back to 6pm or they up the reward to greater than $ 95.
