San Diego Stage & Lighting specializes in all aspects of special events. Our new facility maintains a large stock of basic theatre and entertainment supplies, and also offers the newest technology in theatre equipment. It is home to our Rental, Sales, Production, and Installation departments.

SDSL is one of the leading entertainment suppliers on the West Coast for staging, truss and motors, lighting and dimming equipment, rigging and curtain systems, effects, and theatre supplies. Its service area includes Southern California and the Western United States.

San Diego Stage & Lighting can take you from concept to production, basically overnight. If your event is a fundraiser, wedding reception, or large corporate show, we have the means to get your show up and running. From the simplest of lighting kits to multi-​level stage productions, we have the equipment to produce a successful event.

History

Established in 1977.

Founded in 1974 by Robert DeMent, San Diego Stage & Lighting Supply, Inc. («SDSL») is a full service entertainment supply company. Our attention to detail and the ability to keep up with technological advances has made us a leader in our community.

Locally, San Diego Stage and Lighting proudly boasts the fact that our permanent installation services have been utilized at many of all local entertainment venues, from churches to schools to local theatre to professional theatre; television, film, and video studios; college campuses, corporate «San Diego», restaurants, bars, theme parks; still photography studios and technical training schools. We are proud of our presence in the entertainment community!

Our commitment to the local community is unprecedented with commitments to several children’s theatre programs, faith based organizations, non-​profit fundraisers, and the like. San Diego Stage and Lighting is a «fixture» within the community.

Horrible customer service. From the workers to the receptionist all have bad attitudes. The owner should consider evaluating all of their employees so that they don’t loose customers. Very disappointing. I would not consider stepping inside this unwelcoming environment. So sad !!! And the worst part that they don’t care.

Well for my first time it wasn’t so bad. Picked up some bulbs for stage lighting that needed replacing and the sales rep discounted my purchase since I was buying so many. Also learned a little bit about light gels with the help of the girl working. She even gave me some free samples that I could use for my next purchase and a booklet for figuring out how to get special effects for theater performances. Over all it went well and I learned things about lighting. I recommend bring the bulb you need or know the exact type you need before going down there. Don’t forget to checkin to get a free globo.

I own a small DJ and Sound Company. I had purchased lighting equipment else where. I had issues in setting up the system and after hours of racking my brain I decided to call SDSL. They told me to come down and they would try to help me. They were very accommodating and took their time with me even though I hadn’t purchase from them. Excellent Customer service. I like that they are family owned store. They have earned all of my lighting business in the future. Thank You Charlene, Brian and Denise!

So the folks at SD Stage and Lighting are truly amazing. I recently held my wedding at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park. After consulting several different lighting services and realizing that they are all ridiculously overpriced (welcome to the wedding industry) I decided to take my minimal lighting experience and do the lighting myself.
I kept it simple with just some stringer lights over a pavilion. SD Stage and Lighting made sure I rented all the proper equipment to set up the lights safely. They answered all my stupid and strange questions as I planned the set-​up and they did so with patience and friendliness. I was constantly adding and changing my order and this was never a problem and never once did they mix anything up. Very professional throughout.
Although I did set the lights up myself, the president Denise Doyle, offered to send someone to take the lights down the next day (which was something I definitely did not want to do on the day after my wedding (poor planning on my part)) at no additional charge. This is a quote from that email, «You will not need to be present. Enjoy your time with your bride.»
I cannot even begin to stress how awesome that was to hear. It lifted an incredible burden off my shoulders. Thank you San Diego Stage and Lighting for putting up with my craziness and making my wedding happen. And thank you M.W. for taking down the lights, I hope it wasn’t too much of a hassle.
Oh, and the lights looked fantastic. I will be calling you guys if I ever need anything lighting related. Thanks again!

Horrible customer service! All about the almighty dollar. Called on the phone to discuss an issue a gobo projector I bought was having. Even though it was not bought from them the lady was very helpful and offered to fine tune my lamp calibration. I told her I’d buy whatever it took to fix my flaring issue too.
Later that day I showed up at their storefront. The lady I talked to wasn’t available, and the one in charge showed nothing but contempt for my fixture. Every sentence out of her mouth was about me not buying it from them, how she hates them and they are inferior products, u should have got a better one, etc.
When one of the employees mentions adjusting the lens she points out that I have never spent anything with them. I state that this is not true, and she has me tell her my company name and proceeds to run me through the system to determine if I’m lying and how much I’ve spent. Turns out that I’m not lying, but I’ve only bought approx $ 30 dollars of stuff so I’m not good enough to assist I guess.
Her daughter offers to adjust my lamp but her mom wouldn’t allow it. Instead she prints Instructions on how to adjust it which I already have since they come with the unit. She claims she won’t touch it because she could break it, but everyone there knew that was just an excuse. Her daughter was even giving her the look like «why are you being like this?»
I had a $ 200 pending quote form from them. I told the mom to cancel the quote as I will never use this company again and advise my associates to do the same.
One star because that’s the lowest I can give. I seriously can’t believe some people just don’t like to help others. In my industry I give selflessly to charity on a constant basis, so the culture-​shock/​mind-​set took me completely by surprise!

San Diego Stage and Lighting offers an excellent selection of professional quality lighting equipment. Their staff are extremely knowledgable on how lighting can be used to change a room.
They did the lighting for my wedding and it was the thing that made the biggest impact on the reception space. The set-​up crew was in and out without any problems, making it one of the most seamless parts of the wedding. You can get a wedding package or you can specify the lighting you want and their staff will help you make sure it’s exactly right for your event and your budget.

San Diego Stage and Lighting provided lighting at our wedding in August 2008.
Relatively last minute, some of our vendors strongly recommended that we arrange for specialty lighting at our outdoor (twilight & evening) dinner and dance reception. It wasn’t something I had budgeted for so I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to afford it.
I called San Diego Stage and Lighting and explained that I wanted some lighting to enhance and compliment my wedding décor. I said that I was really on a budget and needed an affordable solution. SDS&L gave me a great bid for a dozen can-​lights, including delivery and set-​up. They helped me choose the right color gels for the lights after I described my color scheme. To save money, the lights were loaded up in my father’s pickup truck after the reception and he brought them back to SDS&L the next day.
The lighting technician came and set-​up the lights on the wedding day without a hitch.
