San Diego Zoo

I love this Zoo!
There is so much walking to be done here, so make sure you bring your walking shoes. I am pretty sure I lost weight during my day at the zoo, despite eating a cheeseburger & fries & a coke near the Panda exhibit. My favorite exhibits were the Pandas and the Elephants. I got to witness the trainers washing the elephants legs and the interactions between them was astounding.
I am so glad the Zoo does not charge people money for general parking, that would be a travesty. The food could stand to improve a little bit though, the cheeseburger I had was worse than McDonald’s.

Literally a jungle, not just a zoo, but also a botanical garden and a maze! It was pretty confusing to navigate. They were also confused a grown adult will go to the zoo on their own, LOL (I was in town on business and love zoos.)
Take the bus tour first, it will give you an idea of all the options and locations.

This is my favorite zoo by far that i’ve been to. They have a huge variety of animals that can see, which i really appreciate. The zoo is really big too, so make sure you wear comfortable shoes because you’re going to be doing a lot of walking. The zoo is really clean, and the staff is really informative and friendly. They usually have workers standing around and will answer any questions/​tell you a little fun fact information about their zoo.
This is definitely a good place to go with your family, and kids. There’s a lot to see and do, which will take a significant portion of your day, so make sure you go early! Also if you go on the weekend make sure you get there early to avoid the hassle of trying to find parking and the long ticket lines. If you can you should try buying your tickets online to save yourself 20 minutes of standing in line.
There is also a lot of food places to eat at inside the park, costing on average about $ 8-​$ 9 for an entrée item. Make sure you bring your own water bottles!!! they cost around $ 4 inside the park.
All in all this is a great zoo, with tons of animals. Come early to avoid having to deal with the struggle of finding parking. Also show your AAA membership to get 10% off of your ticket price. Also be aware that there is usually a 30 minute line to see the pandas, so try to get there early to avoid the line!!!

My boyfriend took me here for Valentine’s Day and it was super packed but still great! I felt like the food prices weren’t outrageous like some parks, which I really appreciated. We got the basic ticket which was $ 50 per person. PRO TIP: USE YOUR TRIPLE A CARD IF YOU HAVE ONE BECAUSE YOU GET A DISCOUNT!
Anyway, I loved this place because the employees here are crazy nice and informative. The lady outside the panda reservation taught me about how the zoo had helped to raise the population of pandas to the point that they’re not endangered anymore. They taught me that Pandas are actually very hostile animals. I loved the koalas and the giraffes. They were so incredibly cute. I can’t wait to go back, to be honest, because I didn’t get to see the gorillas! Other than that, they have a wide variety of animals, including penguins (which are my absolute favorite animals). Definitely worth a visit!

I can’t argue with the popularity and national recognition of the San Diego Zoo.
If you plan on coming here and visiting any other San Diego attractions I would recommend getting the San Diego Go Card. This not only covers admission to the zoo, but to the safari park in Escondido as well. The best part is that the Go Card is your ticket so you can bypass the line to purchase tickets. Definitely a time saver at a busy attraction.
The zoo is in Balboa Park like most San Diego attractions. The day I visited there was plenty of parking and we didn’t even have to walk far to get to the entrance. I am impressed that an attraction like this doesn’t charge for parking. Awesome surprise.
Come prepared to walk so dress appropriately and wear good shoes. Sunscreen is probably a good idea as well. I’d also suggest holding onto the map provided to make sure you don’t accidently miss an exhibit. There is a lot to see.
The zoo has all of the animals you would expect to find at a zoo plus a bunch of animals that you’ve probably never seen at other zoos. My favorite animals were the snow leopards, pandas, and koalas. I also enjoyed reading about the program where they pair a domestic dog with a wild cat.
This zoo lived up to its reputation for me. I’d definitely recommend this as a must see to others visiting San Diego.

Hands-​down, the best zoo I’ve ever visited, and undoubtedly the best way to spend a free day in San Diego. And seeing this incredibly expansive zoo WILL take you all day, so plan to arrive early and stay late into the afternoon. If you get bored here (and you won’t), head next door to the beautiful Balboa Park, with its collection of museums, hiking trails and plazas.
But back to the zoo — I could go on and on about the impressive scope of exhibits, but for the sake of time, I’ll hit some of the high points of my recent visit:
The Panda exhibit is simply remarkable, and gets you up close and personal with one of the most amazing animals in the world. The line for this can get long, so head here first if you can, and then plan on making a second visit later in the day.
The two Aviaries are some of the largest I’ve ever seen, both surrounded by a tropical walking trail that showcases orangutans, monkeys, gorillas and other fascinating animals. The hippos were also a favorite, with the opportunity to view these massive animals from both above and below the water.
The African exhibits, with giraffes, elephants and lions, are also a highlight, but should be even more incredible with the 2017 unveiling of the new ‘Africa Rocks’ — a 7-​acre exhibit that’s expected to showcase these animals like never before. Construction was underway when I visited late last year, but the impact on the surrounding exhibits was minimal.
There’s so much more to see and do at this fantastic zoo than I have time to describe. It’s one of America’s greatest urban treasures, and an experience you’ll never forget. Make sure it’s at the top of your bucket list whenever you’re in Southern California!

I cannot even express how amazing my trip to the San Diego Zoo was. I was skeptical to visit because I have always felt very wary of zoos because my local one in Miami is so awful– but this place gave me hope.
While animals being in captivity can sometimes seem cruel, and I understand the ethical issues surrounding it, you can see the way they care for their animals and they are very helpful with helping visitors understand all of their conservation efforts for creatures abroad.
The pandas were incredible, but the cats were my favorite! They had an expansive collection of cats in generous recreations of their natural habitats. They had a cheetah, lions, tiger, water cats, and several more that I had never seen before. The most interesting thing I found was that they had a regular dog co-​habitating with the cheetah.
I highly recommend visiting if you are ever in San Diego!

There’s probably not much more I could say that you haven’t already searched for, but I’ll write my review anyway. Read further for how to feed giraffes if you don’t know how!
Get here early to start the day. That may not be possible with the little ones, but the earlier you get here the closer parking options are and the livelier the animals may be. Don’t forget to snap a picture of the marking where your car is or write it down! Will save you hassle later on!
Sunglasses, lots of water, comfortable shoes (tennis shoes/​flip flops), shorts/​capris depending on how you feel, and the patience of a saint if you’re coming with the little ones! It’s a lot of walking, they will get tired!
Plan accordingly with your map so you’re aware of where the ridiculous inclines are and save yourself the pain of pushing a stroller or carrying a kid up the incline. This park is HUGE. I came here with a friend and we did about 24,000 steps of walking. Almost like 10 miles of walking for two relatively fit young adults. Obviously with kids there will be a lot more breaks so it’ll make things easier to have some organization to help you out.
I’ve always started by walking to the right of the park, this leads you to urban jungle, the outback and the elephant odyessy eventually. All of this is flat ground so there’s no uphill, plus on the WEEKENDS (sat &sun) you can do the giraffe feeding that starts at 12:00 or 12:30! There is an age limit, but I believe little ones can still be held and you as a family can have your picture taken. It’s honestly so worth it to get this picture, one of the greatest photos I got. The whole experience is short, but the pictures make it so worth it!
After all of this you’ll head towards the polar bear area and at this point you may be getting tired. On the way there the elephant area has a really nice/​new café that I didn’t eat at but it looked nice. Seemed like a clean area to take a break and have the kids run around or rest for the polar bear area coming up. The food options also looked a lot better in my opinion, expensive but they looked better than some other cafes :)
If you plan accordingly you should be able to see the pandas going downhill as well. You don’t want to walk up to the polar bears from the other side (tiger trail/​monkey trail) because the incline is insane. It’s not impossible but obviously with little ones or you being tired it’ll be difficult and you can avoid it depending on which way you start.
We ended with looking at the monkeys and tigers and also went to the nursery area and petting zoo. We were here almost all day. 10 – 4 and that was us power walking and not really stopping. This zoo is overwhelming but it’s pretty amazing to see even if you don’t see everything. Do the big things first, by the end of the day we were so tired that we became apathetic to our surroundings. At that point food and rest was all we really cared for.
The kids will love the children’s zoo, but do that last or they may never leave! Also if you guys find yourself tired depending on your situation use the bus pass then, that’s what we did. Was much better for us to use the bus when we were tired and had already done everything so we could just relax knowing we had accomplished all we wanted to see!
Try some food outside the park if possible! Lots of great options outside that will cost way less for much better quality! Don’t forget additional chargers for phones if possible and extra clothes doesn’t hurt for kids!

What is there to say about the zoo other than it’s one of the best in the world and you must visit it during your time in sunny San Diego. I recommend arriving there at opening and going straight to the popular attractions to avoid the lines and get some good pictures (the panda exhibit and such). If you’re military, you get free entrance – just show your ID at the turnstile. I would occasionally go jogging in the zoo just because I got in free.

My grandmother gives me passes for me and my girls and we come to this place at least once a month good times just let the kids run around and enjoy the animals. bring your snacks it’ll save you a lot of money.
Why do girls love the Skyride you get a good view of Balboa Park from up there.

The zoo is a great place to hangout with other parents and expose children to different types of animals you can’t keep as pets.
I am a little skeptical about how much the zoo does to help the environment and endangered animals, especially since they push their «We keep endangered species alive in captivity» pitch so much during keeper talks and tours. We as humans could definitely do more to leave natural habitats and species alone in the wild so zoos don’t have to bear this burden but whatever.
I also really hope that people don’t take the bus tours because it constantly pushes more toxins into the air when you can walk or take an electric scooter instead. I hope the zoo offers more bike powered tours and switches their buses to hybrid or electric fuel so the endangered species they protect don’t have to inhale bus fumes all day long.

Wonders of Wildlife at the San Diego Zoo
An urban paradise for all ages, the San Diego Zoo is a must-​see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in the tropical oasis as you visit amazing habitats for animals such as gorillas, tigers, sun bears, flamingos, mandrills, polar bears, birds of paradise, giant tortoises, leopards and more. Visit the Australian Outback to see our colony of 24 koalas. Take a Panda Trek to visit the giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat.

The best zoo I’ve been to in my life. I knew that a visit to San Diego wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the zoo, and I wasn’t disappointed. We opted for the simplest day pass ($ 50), which gave us access to all the exhibits, the sky trolley, and the buses. We went early in the morning as soon as they opened for the day at 9am, so the place wasn’t crowded at all and there were no lines. I definitely recommend going early if you can, since the park gets filled up later in the day.
We had heard that the best exhibit to start with were the pandas, since these are where the long lines start to form later in the day. From there, you can do two loops around the park. In total it took us about 3 hours to go through the park, although some of the exhibits we didn’t look at carefully.
The zoo is well-​maintained and beautifully laid out, and a lot of thought has been put into placing the animals into well designed enclosures where they are as close to in their natural habitat as possible. It was hard to believe that we were in the middle of a city — there were places where I felt almost entirely enclosed in a rainforest!
Make sure to also take a ride on the sky trolley. It’s located left of the entrance and takes you to the upper right corner of the park near the polar bear exhibit. It’s a breathtaking ride that brings you across the entire park, and you can see all the animals and people spread out below you.
My favorite exhibits were the pandas, polar bears, big cats, elephants, and koalas. Apparently the SD zoo has the largest koala colony outside of Australia. The little guys are super cute!

We decided to take a road trip and ended up visiting the SD Zoo! Tickets were cheaper after finding some coupon codes online.
Came here at around 12 and we left around 5. Parking was fast and easy. In those few hours we were able to visit most of the major exhibits that you would want to see if you were to visit. Most of the animals were alive and moving and I found them all pretty amusing.
We would just glance at each animal and move on which I suppose is typical of the zoo. The skyline is free with your ticket and helps so much with movement around the whole park. We also took the tour which also came with the ticket which allowed us to see several exhibits without having to walk there.
The panda exhibit is what I came for and we waited maybe 20 – 30 minutes to see them munching on bamboo. It was really cute and made the visit worth it for me.
It was kind of a onetime thing and I didn’t particularly enjoy all of the little kids running around but that’s what you can expect from the zoo. I didn’t order any food from here so I can’t speak about how the food is.
We were exhausted when we left but it was overall a good experience.

Love the San Diego Zoo. Been going since I was a kid and lived all the renovations they have done over the years especially with the Elephants enclosure.
Really good to just have a fun day walking around and see all the exhibits. If you can get the yearly pass as it saves you a bunch. Use to go at least once a month and it was always well worth it.
It’s a shame that more people don’t appreciate the beautiful animals world wide. They are a precious commodity that we are exterminating and an alarming rate. Support Zoo’s and any organization committed to saving and protecting them.

I had a fun day taking a spontaneous trip to the San Diego Zoo because I was in the area. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the zoo!
The San Diego Zoo is big and has a huge variety of animals to look at. Some of the animals were so oddly interesting and yet, so beautiful! Really enjoyed it. I seriously felt like a kid again! Btw this is a great day event for the kids… to walk around the zoo and learn about all the cool animals. :)
Tickets were about $ 50/​per person for adults. If you’re a AAA member, you can get 10% off tickets. Otherwise, just google «San Diego Zoo discounts» and there’s a few discount codes online you can use.
The tickets include unlimited free entry on the tour buses. After walking for awhile, we took the tour bus and it was nice to just relax and look at the animals. The buses do not stop at each animal section to let you take pictures… so you’ll just have to get your camera ready for those quick shots! In the late afternoon, it was a bit cold on the bus due to the wind, so make sure you bring a sweater.
We went on a Monday, so it wasn’t too packed. Had a great time and will definitely be back!

Their exhibits are wonderful and zookeepers are so sweet ! 1000x better than the LA Zoo here at home.
I have somewhat of an obsession with giraffes and I finally got to feed them during this last trip ! I was in the line and when we reached the front we had realized that we had to buy the giraffe food at the stand beside us before getting in line !
The woman in charge generously sneaked three pellets of food for me for free ! I was extremely happy I almost hugged her !
I love the sky lift and the tram that takes you around the zoo.
There’s so much to see and it’s totally worth the money !

We came here during our vacation to San Diego and weren’t disappointed– one of our friends recommended taking the SkyLift to the back of the park and to walk our way forward. Genius idea. Also genius of us– buy those souvenir cups and drink water!!! Those were a lifesaver and we used them the rest of our stay in San Diego too!
Don’t waste your time with the pandas if the line is long, we aren’t sure the 45 minute wait was worth watching her scratch her butt on a log. The other exhibits were really cool and we saw so many different kinds of animals. There was a zookeeper in with one of the antelope type creatures and she was so cute as he petted her and answered questions.
Even though it was very busy, it didn’t feel congested or crowded. It was pricey, but worth the money to go. We can’t wait to take our kids back.

Love this zoo! really enjoyed seeing the Pandas and Polar Bear! The Koalas were cute, too!
Tips:
Buy a souvenir cup for ~$ 11 and get free refills all day (keep your receipt) & bring it back another day for 99 cents refills.
Be careful in front of the lions cage. There are warning signs that he might «spray», and yes, he will! We almost got hit but thankfully we have quick reflexes!

Oh, come on, how could you come here and NOT have a great time?! Big or small, this place has it all!
I like to think that my hometown Philly has the best zoo in the world, but this place may just have something on it…
Went when I was a youngin’ and then again about a decade later. Can’t say I remember the first time (although got the pics to prove it), but the second time was very fun! Went with family and we were able to go around the zoo at a comfortable pace in about an hour and a half. Obviously, it’s better to go when it’s warmer out, but it’s SoCal so practically any time is good!
If you’re in the San Diego area at all, this adventure is a MUST!

The San Diego Zoo is absolutely wilddddddd! Wild in a good way, there is so much to talk about but here are some helpful «tips and tricks» I’ve gathered over the years as a San Diego resident!
–So many animals and reptiles… from Anacondas to koalas, panda bears, gorillas, jaguars, polar bears, cheetah, alligator, grizzly bear peacock, tortoise, elephants, otter, reindeer, zebra, wombat, flamingo and even gardens!
–If you are choosing a time to go, 2016 and after will be great! It is their 100^th year anniversary come 2016 — so that means new attractions and areas
–All sorts of animals in the park… don’t expect to see all of them (many are sleeping) at random times of the day but most animals are more active in the morning time rather than the late afternoon/​evening so give that a try.
–Pandas are sensitive to noise, so if you want to see them (and expect to wait a VERY long wait over the weekend), then hush! Or else they will turn their back on you.
–Baby Gorilla is here! He is almost 1 in a few months (as of Dec 2015)
–Your general ticket comes with the skyfari aerial tram AND the guided bus tour, unless otherwise noted. I definitely recommend doing the guided bus tour first thing so you get a «mini peak» inside the whole park. and before it gets really busy. The guided bus tour is 35 minutes.
–Expect to WALK a lot… up hills, down hills, and all around. Expect a minimum of 3 – 4 hours to see a decent handful of animals and have an enjoyable experience. Stay longer to experience EVERYTHING!
–PARKING is free! Yes, you heard me… parking is free!
–You can bring food in the park, but no alcohol :)
–If you are looking to eat in the park, don’t expect anything fancy. Most stations are nuggets, fries, burgers, wraps, sandwiches.
–You can bring your Selfie sticks, unlike Disneyland (cannot)
–Balboa Park is just next door so visit the beautiful park and museums after (or before) your trip if you arn’t too tired! No need to move your car, just walk over.

My boyfriend took me here for a date and I enjoyed the experience. There are different areas where you can go to see the different animals in their habitats. The maps at the front of the zoo make it easy to find where you need to go and which animals you want to see. The parking here is fairly big and spaced out so that even though you park further from the entrance you can find your vehicle when you’re done running around the zoo.
We walked around the zoo and were able to see all the wonderful animals. I enjoyed seeing all the different birds that they had here. I also enjoyed the guided bus tour. It’s one thing that I would highly recommend going on this tour so that you can take a look at the different habitats and decide where you’d like to go.
When we went here I wanted to go to the panda exhibit, but oh my goodness! the line was so very long so we decided to go to the other exhibits and we also went to the different shops for some souvenirs.
We had fun going through the zoo and we would go back again for the fun experience had with the different exhibits.

Ever since I came to San Diego — I have only walked past the zoo area. It was not until after the night of December Nights Friday Dec. 4^th — that I came here during the day on Dec. 5^th with my girl friend who had a annual pass here. It was pretty cool I admit. We talked, we chatted, we gazed at the animals — majority of the time their butts as that’s what we come face to face in. The panda was the main offender. Just kidding! The pandas were sound asleep and knocked out. So can’t do much when they’re sleeping.
We got to ride the skyfari for free as she was a member and she could have a +1. BEST ZOO DAY EVER. Tram will have to be for another day :(
We both got super excited at the polar bear exhibit. We got mad pictures of the polar bear playing with his ball (if you saw my videos haha) and then I proceeded in completing my selfie collection of pictures in which I took them while she was not looking. I succeeded for those of you who were curious. My other favorites included the tigers who were looking in towards the zoo employee who was cleaning their area and the leopard who was doing the same thing. We did not grab anything to eat as everything was a bit overpriced.
Great for kids and families. Parking was not too bad as we showed early (around 11ish).

Here’s what you need to know:
–Free parking at Balboa Park
–Detailed maps on what animals are where, along with super friendly and knowledgeable volunteers giving information on animals or where to go.
–You can bring your own food/​snacks so you don’t get stuck eating a prepackaged sandwich from the zoo
–Everyone recommends on getting there early since the animals are just let out of their night time areas. I’d have to agree since I missed seeing the polar bears during my visit :(
–All feeding times are pre-​arranged so take a look at the map so you don’t miss it! The gorilla feedings are my personal favorite since they’re the most interactive. The lion feedings are neat to watch too, but a bit more graphic.
The entrance can be a bit expensive, as it is one of the top rated zoo’s in the country. If you’re local, I highly recommend getting an annual pass since I heard there is a new animal born everyday at both the Zoo and Safari Park. Plus, who would ever turn down seeing baby animals?

I’m frugal to a fault, so when my friends demanded a trip to world famous zoo, I was excited, yet fearful of the toll it would take on my bank account. Can’t we see animals for free in the depths of Balboa Park?
Moreover, from the lack of parking spot vacancies it is obvious that everyone is always at the zoo at all times. After stalking different pedestrians for an excessive amount of time, we finally found a parking spot. I’m surprised that I’m not still looking for parking.
It was worth the struggle! There is an included bus tour and sky tram. The foliage was pretty full, so the sky tram did not offer amazing vistas, however that is a small price to pay for the wonderful shade present during our extensive visit.
After enjoying the park for 6 hours, we still didn’t see the half of it! If you are a zoo lover, this is mandatory.

Well, San Diego zoo might be the best zoo ever, at least the best I’ve been to; see, I’m not the biggest fan of zoos, of crowds on a hot day, of a wafting odor off lingering animal poo. I’m not the biggest supporter of ripping creatures from their natural habitat and caging them in.
That being said, I guess I look the other way and I should seriously get my soul in check, but… The grounds here are really quite nice. It’s a gigantic zoo, with lots of animals, and some areas depending when you get there, you can still avoid a giant crowd.
There a pretty good restaurant in the middle of the zoo that gets packed so get there for an early lunch to get a spot next to the little waterfall area.
Map out your visit with what’s most important as you could spend two full days here. There’s a ski lift tram sorta thing that helps you take in some of the zoo while relaxing and gets you from point A to point B relatively easily.
I missed out on the giraffes but maybe another time… They have a safari type tour I believe and even zip lining if I remember right. Check it out.

I might be a little biased. I’m an 8 year old when it comes to animals. But it doesn’t matter. Having been to over a dozen zoos over the course of my life, the San Diego Zoo wins hands down. They have everything. From alligators to flamingos to tigers to polar bears to kangaroos to pandas… they’re all here. And it takes HOURS to see everything. While the topography is rather hilly, it just burns off the soft serve ice cream, beer, cookies or all of the above that you consume while visiting. There is also an arial «Skyfari» which connects one corner of the zoo to another, which is a visual feast in and of itself.
So what separates it from other zoos besides the sheer amount of animals? Every time they renovate an area they theme it towards a region versus a type of animal. It makes everything that much more interesting. For example, the newly unveiled Elephant Odyssey pairs statues of North American animals that have gone extinct to ones that are still in existence. You learn quite a bit and even see a replica tar pit. It also contains the largest elephant exhibit I’ve ever seen. You can tell the animals really are happy and have plenty of room to roam (unlike the previous exhibit that was kind of sad to witness). The new «Koalafornia» exhibit is similar. I have never been to a zoo with so many koalas where some are even *gasp* awake!
In addition, I still occasionally discover new areas that I have never been to, despite having been a zoo member for 10 years! This is definitely a place worth checking out. And if you’re a San Diego resident, don’t resist becoming a member. There’s so much here that you can discover favorites and new areas with each and every visit.

Amazing place to spend the day without spending too much money. We bought the annual passes for $ 199 which includes entry for 2 for the entire year plus other perks. There is free parking here which is a big plus. Children under 3 are free. You can bring your strollers in here and you can access 95% of the Zoo in a stroller. They have a Skytram that is free with admission and it fits up to 4 people of any age. You can bring single strollers onto the tram with you, but not double.
It costs $ 13 to take the bus tour through the park. It’s $ 11 for members. My favorite animals are the orangutans and the cheetah that they pair w a dog. The Panda Bears are unique as there are only a few in the world.
I brought a backpack with food in so I didn’t buy anything here while I visited. You can get by the entire day w just spending money on admission which is about $ 30 per person. You can get a stamp on your hand if you plan to leave and enter again on the same day.
Great place for anyone to visit.

Der Zoo an sich ist zwar schön und hat auch einige nett angelegte Gehege… wer allerdings die lange Reise von Europa aus auf sich genommen hat, sollte sich die 48 $ Dollar und den Urlaubstag lieber sparen und was vernünftiges unternehmen…
Ja, der Zoo ist ganz nett… und ja, man sieht sogar Tiere. und ja, der Park als solches ist flächenmäßig groß und es gibt sogar Rolltreppen und Seilbahn…
ABER wenn es um den Besuch eines Zoos geht, würde ich jedem eher den Besuch im Zoo Leipzig empfehlen. Das ist bei weitem mehr beeindruckend und zudfem noch günstiger…
Wir hatten zunächst auch überlegt den Wild Animal Park in San Diego zu besuchen. wer allerdings im 1×1 gut bewandert ist und das Kleingedruckte lesen kann, wir feststellen dass auch dies bei weitem entweder extrem teuer oder extrem enttäuschend wird.
Mein Fazit: Lieber den Urlaubstag investieren und nochmals eine Runde im Balboa-​Park oder in Downtown drehen, als den Zoo zu besuchen. Speziell wer aus Deutschland kommt, hat hier definitiv bessere Alternativen…

We went during our short day in San Diego and didn’t regret it. It’s a very nice zoo with lots of animals who seem to be in very good shape and happy.
It’s a good plan if you love animals. However the tickets are quite expensive ($ 48 the admission and over $ 100 if you want anything extra). Look for online discounts before buying them.
Some of my favorites were: the petting paddock (sheeps and goats), the gorilas and orangutans, and the cheetah with his lovely dog friend.

I live in a city where the zoo is like a safari, great but you need to go by car. This is totally different to what I’m used to, I needed to walk, walk and walk and I like that. I took great pics and the staff is nice.
Great souvenirs not cheap but also not expensive; I loved the tour bus and the air tram.
I would definitely coming back!

Magnifique zoo situé dans le park de San Diego. Très accessible.
Quelques minutes d’attente vous permettent d’acquérir un pass «de base» à 42 $ qui les vaut largement!
L’endroit est gigantesque, un véritable parc d’attractions. On peut le parcourir d’un bout à l’autre grâce au téléphérique. On né voit pas très bien les animaux d’aussi haut mais la balade est très chouette ^^ De nombreux bus parcourent le parc selon différents trajets mais né permettent pas de s’approcher véritablement des animaux.
Le zoo est organisé en quartier selon les animaux que l’on peut y rencontrer. Le plan est très explicite. Au hasard, vous croiserez: des gros chats en tous genres, des éléphants, des ours polaires, des pandas, des zèbres, des aigles, des serpents, des singes, des koalas …
Tout est bien organisé, propre. Il y a du monde mais cela reste gérable. Sauf pour les pandas où il faut s’attendre à une bonne demi-​heure de queue.
Divers restaurants et bars sont là pour faire une pause bien méritée!
Une excellente journée et un must lors d’un voyage à San Diego (surtout avec des enfants!).

Einfach ein sauguter Zoo, den man ohne Bedenken empfehlen kann trotz der 44 Dollar Eintritt (Tageskarte). Dafür erhält man aber auch folgendes mehr:
— Nutzung vom Express-​Bus
— Nutzung des Tourbusses
— Nutzung der Seilbahn
Die Tiere– und Pflanzenwelt ist beeindruckend, man sollte aber bei mancher Attraktion Zeit einplanen, da diese eine Schlange an Menschen bedeuten kann. Besonders gilt das für das Pandagelände.
Vom Essen und Trinken her ist es relativ teuer, jedoch kann man auch sein Essen und Getränke mitnehmen. Das einzigste was nervte, war der Versuch die Fotos bei der geführten Tour sowie im Pandabereich an den Mann zu bringen, muss man aber nicht unbedingt kaufen.

Einer der schönsten Zoo’s die es gibt! Schöné, große Gehege und sehr viele verschiedene Tiere! Wir haben fast einen ganzen Tag dort verbracht und es gab immer wieder etwas neues zu entdecken!

Wohl einer der schönsten ZOOs der Welt. Hier kann man locker einen ganzen Tag verbringen und hat immer noch nicht alles gesehen.
Wenn man in SD sollte man dem Zoo definitiv einen Besuch abstatten. In der Nähe befindet sich noch der Balboa Park. Auch sehr sehenswert!

Allerdings fehlte mir etwas der rote Faden. Man war teilweise etwas verwirrt wo man nun hin sollte, um möglichst wenig zu verpassen.
Man sollte mind. 1 Tag einplanen, damit man alles sehen kann!

Super grosser und schöner Zoo. Kann nur zu einem Besuch raten.

Ein toller Zoo, auch wenn nicht mehr alle Gehege den neusten Standarts entsprechen. Aber das ist bei der Größe und Artenvielvalt wohl auch nicht ganz einfach. Alle neueren Gehege sind jedenfalls artgerecht, dafür sprechen auch die vielen Zuchterfolge und das nicht nur bei den Pandas.
Wenn man diesen Zoo besucht sollte man schon recht früh da sein, da man fast einen ganzen Tag zum anschauen braucht. Wenn man ein Kombiticket mit dem Wild Animal Zoo kauft (eine Woche gültig), ist nicht nur der Eintritt insgesamt günstiger sondern die guided Bus Tours und die Airrail sind im Preis inklusive.
Und eine Guided Bus Tour zu machen ist für jemanden der zum 1. Mal da ist eine sinnvolle Sache, so bekommt man einen guten Überblick über die verschiedenen Bereiche des Zoos.
Abgesehen von den Pandas ist die neue Africa Odysee Anlage ein echtes Highlight, da es nicht nur eine schöné Elefantenanlage gibt sondern man auch etwas hinter die Kulissen schauen kann, z.B. bei der Fusspflege der Elefanten.
Besonders niedlich sind auch die Koalas im Australien Outback.
Ansonsten gibt es auch noch eine Art Exotarium, wo man viele verschiedene Klapperschlanegn und andere mehr ode rweniger giftige tiere anschauen kann.
Und insgesamt bin ich mir sicher ist für jeden etwas dabei.

Der Zoo hebt sich von anderen Zoos dadurch ab, dass das gesamte Gelände wie ein einziger Dschungel wirkt. Oftmals weiß man gar nicht so genau, ob man gerade auf ein Gehege oder nur auf einen normalen Parkbereich schaut. Der Besuch dieses Zoos erinnert mehr an eine Expedition als an einen Ausflug. Das Gelände ist wirklich riesig, un es braucht schon einen kompletten Tag, um wirklich alles anschauen zu können. Ein wenig befremdlich fand ich das Pandabären-​Gehege. Dort wurde durch eine monotone Stimme die immergleichen Informationen abgedudelt. Zu unserem Erschrecken mussten wir am Ende der Tour feststellen, dass es sich bei der vermeitlichen Tonbandstime um eine etwas ältere Dame handelte.

Der Zoo von San Diego hat sich auch einen großen Namen als Aufzuchtstation für Riesenpandas gemacht. Selbst die Chinesen holen die Pandas aus San Diego in die eigentliche Heimat.
Mir persönlich hat es der Gorilla angetan. er ist für mich die Verkörperung von LmaA.

So konzentriert unbeteiligt wie dieser Silberrücken ist mir in meinem ganzen Leben kein Zweiter begegnet. Traumhaft ist die Fahrt in der Seilbahn über den Zoo hinweg. Beeindruckend die Weitläufigkeit und die Größe der Anlage. Man hat den Eindruck, dass es den Tieren gut geht. Besuch lohnt auf jeden Fall.

Aber auch diese Nili-​Mutter mit ihrem Baby war den Besuch wert. Die beiden waren so knuddelig anzusehen in ihrem Bassin — man hatte den Eindruck, dass sie sich dort wohl fühlten.

Ein Besuch lohnt sich auf jeden Fall. Weitlaeufiger Zoo der auch mit Kinderwagen sehr gut zu besuchen ist.
Verschiedene Tickets im Angebot, mit (34 $) oder ohne Bustouren (24,50 $) im Zoo.
Die ueber dem Zoo verkehrende Gondel kostet 3 $ pro Strecke, sie bietet weiter schoene Eindruecke.

Es rentiert sich auf jeden Fall mehr als einen halben Tag für den Zoo einzuplanen. Um am Eintritt zu sparen kann man nach Special-​Vouchers Ausschau halten, um ein paar Dollar zu sparen. Am Anfang sollte man vll. mit einer Bustour starten, um sich einen Überblick zu verschaffen.

The zoo was great. I got to see so many animals, including a little baby gorilla. I would highly recommend doing the bus tour as soon as you get there, so you can get a better idea of what exhibits you want to see. If you sit on the bottom on the opposite side as the driver, you will get the best camera shots and get close to more exhibits. Also, if you want to see the pandas, go right after you get off the bus. I did that and didn’t have to wait in line, but the line gets quite long in the afternoon. A good idea would be to buy your ticket online before getting to the zoo. The lines for ticket purchases were quiet long right as the zoo opened. My only complaint was that there were not a lot of zoo staff stationed within confusing parts of the paths. They were only found once I had finally figured out the right way to go.
