Savage House

My review is a little late, but a buddy and I decided to go to a couple haunted attractions here in San Diego in the spirit of the season. This was are our last (paid)haunted attraction of the night, and it was easily the best. I don’t want to name names, but the first two that we went to (hint, they both start with ‘The Haunted’) were just alright.
After those meh experiences, we were gonna go to Del Mar, but we wouldn’t have made it in time. So we went to this place since it was right off the 8 on the way home. We got there maybe 5 – 10 minutes before they closed up for the night, and they were very polite, no problems with us coming so late. We opted for the house+museum ticket, since the museum was only like two dollars more.(Both combined were cheaper than either of the other places we went to.)
From the second you walked in, you were immersed into the story of some murderous, hillbilly, cult family and it was quite entertaining. The atmosphere was great, really nice setup. Actors were flawless, super interactive, never broke character. The story was fascinating. When we exited the haunted house, I was relieved and truly satisfied with the fear that I had been overcome with.
BY FAR, the best haunted house I have been to. Truly surprised there was not a mile long line for this place. Going so late, we actually got to sit in on their staff meeting at the end of the night. Let me tell you, these are people that truly love what they do and take pride in doing it well. I can’t wait for next year.

¹⁰⁄₁₀ Awesome Haunted House!!! Definitely worth it. It will give you the scare you’re looking for. I would highly suggest seeing the museum as well. Guaranteed!

It was pretty kool but the lighting is limited its hard to read the description of the prop. Although we didn’t get an autograph from we did get some pictures with him. He was super cool and down to earth… I had a good time

Please do not go to balboa park or Del mar scare grounds this thing is the real deal! Go support savage house this years hillbilly chain saw massacre theme this year! Support this group they are working so hard without the big budgets to advertise big so go see them… I promise you will come out screaming and running and the tickets are much better prices unlike admission for two and front of line passes at these others can run u $ 80 – 100 for two people!!! The savage house has combo pack the museum and the haunted house $ 18 a ticket and only $ 5 for front of the line passes so for two at most you spend $ 46 bucks and this place is seriously freaky! Every room they have action people jumping at you from every angle and they send you in smaller groups so you can actually be scared where the bigger groups at other places u already know what’s going to happen because of the ten people in your group in front of u that they already got to first and scared.
Spread the word Savage House is in the west corner of the parking lot of target and chipotle in mission valley across from west elm furniture. Hands down best haunted house in SD!

We have been to awesome haunted houses in Salem, MA so I can tell you with a certain amount of confidence this is a great, scary, innovative and freakishly intimate haunted house.
The artists and the setup are daunting and 7 minutes seem an eternity. If you are like me and love a scary thriller, this is definitely the place for you!!!
It’s a small local business who rely on Unilocal to promote their business. They deserve to be known!!! Keep up the sinister design!!!

Savage House is hands down the best haunted attraction in SD. Some of the best set design and scares anywhere. Small group sizes keep the experience personal and terrifying.
If you are tired of haunts that recycle their props over and over and do the same old shit then look these guys up. They bring their A game where most attractions in San Diego are just coasting by on name recognition.

Holy WOW! This haunt is AMAZING! From the convenient location down to the fine/​precise details in each room. It’s obvious to see lot of hard work went into this haunt. The actors really get up close and personal with you and actually interact with each customer instead of just going through the robotic motions as I have seen at other larger, more well-​known haunts. They sent people in small groups (2 – 4) I’m assuming to ensure they are receiving the full experience. No herding of large groups which is a relief.
I’ve been to other haunted attractions within San Diego county and I have to say this is my favorite. The pricing is great and I felt it’s worth every dollar. I’m a HUGE horror movie/​show fan and the museum was great to get a few pics with some well known characters. They let you take pictures in the museum which was awesome!
One other thing I appreciated was that the owners actually came up to some customers and asked them personally about their experience. Are you serious?! What other place does that? It really shows their passion for their production as well as their legit concern for the customers experience.
Savage house is a must if you are into haunted houses and attractions. It’s unique, creepy, fun, and an all around great experience. Definitely well deserved of 5 stars ;)

Definitely worth it!
Line — waited for about 20mins in line at 8pm on a Saturday night. The people in the fast pass line also waited a bit but of course got to cut. Tip– if the line does not fold around the rope, the wait is completely bearable.
Museum — while waiting for our friends we opted for the combo and we loved it! Since cosplay actors were roaming the area, it only heightened the scare factor. Tip — read to museum displays and take your time walking through. It’s a good scary movie refresher.
Maze — it’s about 10 mins, depending on how slow you walk. I was so afraid; It felt longer! Tip– a small group or 2 – 4 will give you an excellent experience. Too big of a group may cause you to miss some details.
Actors — they are the heart of this all. What an amazing casting job! The woman in the kitchen was so believeable I felt like I was in a movie!!!
Staff — so nice & friendly. Even with all the people around, we were still treated like we were the only ones there. Very personable.
Final tip: bring a friend who gets extra scared easily and screams a lot! Our friend was such a scaredy cat it was fabulous! At one point she yelled «When does this end!!!» I as laughing so hard but totally wondering the same thing. I was scared too!!!

What an awesome haunt! This was our first time at Savage House. We heard great things about it so we were really looking forward to it — it did not disappoint! In fact, we were really impressed! The theme is great, the initial story line setup at the beginning is engaging and the actors were all ‘on it’ throughout the entire haunt. There were lots of great effects, from starling to disturbing to surprising to scary-​as-​heck!!! My throat was sore from screaming so much.
The staff/​owners were awesome and really cared about providing us a fun and scary haunt! This is Savage House’s 2^nd year on San Diego and we are looking forward to next year already.
They have a neat museum with horror movie characters and we got to meet Brea Johnson from the 2^nd season of SyFy’s Face/​Off. Check their website for other horror-​related star appearances.
This is a must do haunt in San Diego!!!

Seriously terrifying. We had a Navel Officer and cop in our group and they were screaming just as loud as the girls! We felt like we were immersed in the storyline and the actors did a fantastic job.
I really enjoyed the cosplayers walking around. They took pictures with us and really added to the experience. I think it’s really awesome there’s something different every weekend.
I can’t wait to see what they come up with next year!

Savage House = ¹⁰⁄₁₀ would recommended. Or ⁷⁄₇ because that’s how many people were in my group. Actually, maybe ⁶⁄₇ because the youngest in our group (11) cried from being scared… That’s a good sign though!
In comparison to the Del Mar Scaregrounds and Haunted Trails at Balboa Park, I give this place an A, and those attractions an F. Honestly, Scaregrounds wasn’t scary, and Trails seems to be a bit repetitive.
The museum is very cool and interesting and a lot of characters from scary movies (such as Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Chucky and his bride, and Leatherface) are actors that you can take pictures with and interact with. Leatherface personally came up to my group while in line and told us he would be waiting for us inside. Also, another actor (I forgot who) looked at me and did the «I’m watching you» hand/​finger gesture.
That already «intensified» the haunted house before entering. My group was split up in order to make it scarier. I liked the whole theme and storyline. Walking through had my group and I scream, laugh about screaming and getting scared, then scream some more. It was really fun, I liked it a lot!

Not as good as 2013. But I appreciate the museum area and the fact that they really push you to go in small groups of 2 or 3 (they talked us out of going in a group of 5). So uncommon for a haunted attraction… makes you feel like they really want you to get the best experience which I appreciate from this company.
Just to clarify — when we came in 2013, this was THE BEST haunted attraction that we had ever been to. 5+ stars for sure. It was smart, original, and so so scary. We were so sad that they took a year off and were dying to experience it this year. While I think there were some areas that weren’t as good this year, we still are, and will continue to be, fans of Savage House. The following comments are meant to be constructive criticisms.

We came on a Thursday night about an hour or less before close (11:00 pm). I don’t know if that had something to do with our experience or not… There was NO ONE else there. No line whatsoever. It’s $ 16 for the haunt $ 18 for the haunt and museum. The Museum is a small area with mostly replicas from iconic horror movies and shows. Not much was different from when we came in 2013.
Like I mention above, they really make an effort to maximize your experience by pushing for small groups of 2 – 3. This is my favorite aspect of this haunt.
This year’s theme of «hillbillies» was overdone and unoriginal. There were a few good jumps (and maybe they got one scream out of me!) but the actors kind of half-​assed their bits tonight and were a little too casual and conversational. Sometimes less is more (last year’s zombie apocalypse theme/​story line was great!). There wasn’t a direct story this year which took away from the overall effectiveness, and the rooms/​characters seemed a bit disjointed. There were a couple original decorations, some successful (hanging black body bags) and some pointless (stinky toilet plunging).
Scarier than Balboa Trails (last year’s at least) and much, much, shorter (about 10 minutes maybe, all the way through). Definitely some declines since 2013.
On a side note, there HAVE to be other ways to end a haunt besides chainsaws… Right?!

This is the SCARY, The BEST Haunted House I have been too this year. We just left Balboa Park and this is WAY BETTER than Balboa Park. I LOVE Haunted Houses and Halloween its the first I closed my eyes and couldnt make it all the way through with my eyes opened. LOL. They also have a museum with celebrities through out the month we meant Micheal Myers ;) Going back one more time to make it through with my eyes opened

This place definitely deserves a 4.5. I went last night and I really enjoyed it! I’ve been to the Haunted Hotel, the Haunted Trails, and the Scare Zone and this place takes the cake!
First off, I was in a group of six. At the entrance, we were asked if we wanted to split into two smaller groups. What place does that?! Everywhere else they try to cram you into groups of 10. I loved that this place had a story and a theme. It didn’t feel like just spooks throughout, it felt as if I was part of a horror movie come to life. The actors were unbelievable. They were interactive with the group (not by touching us, though) and made us part of the story.
It was just phenomenal. And if you think that ending a maze with one guy with a chainsaw is scary… THIS end will give you nightmares. Seriously, just the ending alone gets this place 4.5 stars.
Savage House is so underrated. There was no line when I went on a Saturday at 11. More people need to come out! It’s only their second year, but I wish it were longer. I’m sure over time more money will make it better. A bit longer, and add a few more actors. I also love that this place had a horror museum with actors from movies! Oh and they gave us free movie tickets to a screening. Seriously, these guys are phenomenal and I can’t wait to come again later this year and see what they have next year!

This is a wonderful haunt with a strong story, great actors, beautiful set design & layout and fun scares! I really enjoyed this haunt!!! I went to Universal, Knotts, Six Flags, and 17^th Door this year in Los Angeles and I enjoyed this event more. I think it has the heart that a lot of the bigger haunts lack. It’s worth it, go!

I am not usually impressed by many haunted houses. Most of the time guys are nonchalant, but this time all four of us was screening our asses off. Thank you that was amazing with all the live actors and chainsaws and… You’ll love it because. Not for the faint hearted.

This place is legit! The layout, props, actors, lighting, sounds, it’s all movie grade! Fully themed throughout the entire haunt. Well thought out and exceptionally executed. Celebrity guests are a huge bonus!!! It’s So much FUN!

I am a scary movie enthusiast, love everything Halloween, and admit to not get scared very easily, however this house was savage! I loved it. I was scared throughout but it was so much fun. I loved that they kept the same theme through the whole house because in other horror houses you end up getting dizzy with all the different themes they try to put in. It was a great, fun experience, highly recommend, definitely going back with more friends. Also the museum was pretty legit

Had a great time checking out this haunted house! As someone who frequents all the haunted houses in southern California every year I will definitely be adding this to the rotation. Good for some scares and the staff was awesome!

This haunted house was really awesome and scary but we had a bad experience. The movie they are supposed to play in the beginning to get you into the story didn’t play and my husband didn’t see the movie before only I did. So we just started walking trough and that made it not as good as it should have been for $ 32 for 2 people. They offered to let us go again but my husband had to go to get ready for work. Super bummed. If it wasn’t for that mistake I would’ve given 4 stars.
