Scripps Clinic Rancho Bernardo

This is a two parter and might be long! First off, I took my daughter to see Dr. Piggot in dermatology. My daughter had never had acne and it seemed to come out of nowhere so I asked around and Dr. Piggot came highly recommended by some friends. Upon first consult with her I was really surprised that she offered only 3 treatment options so if the first did not work you would go to the next. My daughter was breaking out pretty bad so we started with the first option — long-​term antibiotics and a topical cream. Didn’t do a thing so back for option #2 — a different long-​term antibiotic and a more irritating topical cream. I was told the next option would be the pill as in birth control (for a 14 year old mind you) and Accutane. I knew nothing about Accutane but learned that it can have horrible side effects like Crones disease, vision changes amongst other things (again for a 14 year old). The second option again did nothing and I was not about to do option #3 so I searched around and found a licensed esthetician that specialized in Acne. She asked about the whole picture — diet and what my daughter was putting on her face like skin care products and make-​up. Turns out her acne was due to products she was using that were clogging her pores (word of caution — don’t ever put Coconut Oil on your face) and she also made diet tweeks. The culprit mainly though was topical and the esthetician could tell right away because of the pattern of where her face was breaking out and what was coming out of her extractions. So I cancelled the next dreaded appt with Dr. Piggot which was for option #3 bought all new skin care products, make-​up (the esthetician offered a whole list of ingredients to stay away from so I had to look at all the ingredients on the products I bought her), we even changed shampoo and conditioner. Within a few weeks we saw a dramatic improvement. Enough to know that the medication pushed on her was not the answer.
Part two… so upon initial contact with dermatology to set up the appointment they had a 4 ½ year old address in their system for us. I let them know we had moved and updated my address with them. We went in for our 1^st appt and I updated my address with them again and even filled out the paperwork with our «new» address of 4 ½ years. They were nice enough to set up our prescription with a mail order pharmacy out of New York because the medication is pretty pricey and guess what address they gave them to mail it to? Yes my address from 4 ½ years ago! Luckily I was able to catch it after looking at my account online with the pharmacy company and e-​mail and call them to get it updated before they sent it out. I know I gave the derm dept my new address at least one more time as we had a 2^nd appt. So why am I going in depth about this? Apparently, I owed a co-​pay from our very 1^st appt that I was not aware of and now 5 months later am getting calls from a collection agency because they were sending bills to guess where? My 4 ½ year old address! They even gave that address to the collection agency! So they were billing me at that address too. They did however give them my phone number which Scripps does not apparently have the man power (their words not mine) to pick up a phone themselves and call to notify their patients, their customers, that they have an outstanding balance. So imagine my surprise when a collections agency calls me out of the blue.
I was already very unimpressed by their dermatology department. The people at check-​in were nice but their is something very broken in their system. As someone said in another review «it’s all about the dollas!» I was very unimpressed by the doctor. The communication from the staff was horrible. Although I appreciated them getting me a better price on the medication I had no idea they were setting it up with mail order pharmacy and it took over a week to actually get it as it was first called into a regular pharmacy… long story but they did not communicate with me at all as to where it was coming from and that they were working on it. The ladies at the check out were just rude. Like I was interrupting them when I would go up to the window. One told me she couldn’t help me and sent me to another window down the hall even though there was no other patient there. No explanation really just said go to another window.
Long story short, myself nor my family will ever be a patient at Scripps again. I think we will stick with Sharp and I regret not seeing a Sharp derm in the first place. Scripps was closer but definitely not the best choice.

5 stars: Urgent care & Dr. hill.
I was super sick and ended up having low potassium which really screwed me up. They administered IV and I spoke to Dr. Hill (?) he was incredibly nice — super informative — great bedside manner — I immediately asked the nurse if he saw patients outside of Urgent care and worked as a PCP but unfortunately he only works in WIC

1 star: Dr. Shalauta’s /​Nurses.
I decided to follow up with Dr. Shalauta a few days later for my other results. Dr. Was friendly but not that personable. He reminds me of Bobby Flay but younger :) I left with no information but understood because other tests were ordered. His nurse that day was AMAZING. A few days pass and I’m still not feeling great and had to call myself to request results. I called at 8AM and nurse didn’t return my call till 4:50 something. (They close at 5). During my nursing days — I had quite a few fellow nurses who would wait till the end of the day to call back patients, so that they could head home knowing that most would miss their call, and by the time they called back they would have already left for home. I always found this unprofessional and annoying. Than there were other nurses who would call patients back throughout their day; Dr. Shalauta’s nurse that day was the nurse that waited till the end of the day — because of that; I need to look for another PCP. The nurses are a huge part and even if the Dr. Is great — an inattentive and uncaring nurse will ruin it. Nurse called me back and lacked all information that was initially requested. Called back by a different nurse who again did not get all of the information. By than I no longer cared. Completely vague information and seemed unsure of the answer. I would completely come back to the WIC but as far as PCP goes — I’ll establish it somewhere else. Sad. Because I really thought it was going to work.

We have had a relationship with this clinic for over two decades and three wonderful Primary Care Physicians. Only recently did we have a few negative experiences. Not in favor of a public testimony we would prefer to find a way to communicate directly with «business manager». My suggestion is that the web site include a link for this purpose.

I went to Rancho Bernardo Urgent care on Sunday may 8^th for ear infection, they don’t care about patient’s feeling, frustration and pain. All they want is the money. The doctor only spent few second and left. He did not even ask if i have any questions, A week later I was forced to go back to Urgent care but decided to try Torrey pines urgent care, the doctor told me the prescription was not correct and i was also refereed to wrong specialist and provide me with more medication and as of today still i have an issue with my ear inflammation and it was just waste of my time and money to visit either one

Came here a couple of months ago to the urgent care, the doctor and nurses were very helpful. I had an amazing service here and was amazed on how easy it was with getting helped out. I usually get freaked out about going into urgent cares or hospitals but this one was very good. They helped me through everything that was going on. One very happy patient.

Catherine Chen Dermatology, by far the worst doctor. Horrible customer service and seems to have a bit of racism.
I went in for an acne issue, a few spots on back. Catherine prescribed cephalexin antibiotics, one week into taking this medicine I started feeling off and something was just not right. I called numerous times each day and leaving messages for the doctor regarding my concerns, she never called me back. Until then the receptionist said the doctor wants you off the medicine and will prescribe you something else which also did not work and made my issue even worse.
The receptionist would say the doctor is busy with patients and will get back to you when she can or you can schedule an appointment to come in to see her. I don’t mind scheduling an appointment but I feel it is silly when I’ve already paid a lot of money to her the first place. I am a patient of hers, and would be nice to see doctors that care and at least call me back regarding the medicine that she had prescribes for me. It’s a liability issue here and customer service. How professional can you be?
I finally could not take it anymore, my case was very urgent. My entire body flared up, blisters all over and my face was puffy with rashes, allergic reaction. I call to make an appointment as this is an emergency, the receptionist tells me sorry the doctor is booked and can’t see you until next week? Are you serious??? After putting me through all this pain!
I went to see Doctor Moore from Scripps clinic Carmel Valley, best doctor ever. He handles patients professionally and takes matters personal. He immediately prescribed me the correct medicine and my issue was resolved in a week.

I would not recommend this urgent care to my worst enemy.
Cons:
— They don’t accept patients based on sickness severity. I was curled up on the floor about to pass out and they took someone back with an ingrown toenail.
— The nurses are NOT friendly. Look, i get that you see 100s of patients each day but you chose a profession that involves daily interactions with people who are really sick. You need to show more compassion. Anyone who goes to urgent cares doesn’t want to be there! We aren’t going there for fun!
— The doctor spends 10 minutes with you and walks off with a bunch of drugs listed up. He doesn’t listen to you. I told him over and over again that I had this increasingly painful rash on my hands. I told the nurse 2x to tell him the rash was getting worse on my hands and feet. Doctor said to take benadryl. He didn’t even look at it.
— Next, he gave me a flu test and blood test to see if i had any infection. Everything came back normal but he still gave me antibiotics. Why? He couldnt really answer me.
— I heard this doctor give pain medication to 3 other patients. I thought the government was cracking down? I told him that I already had some. He still tried to give me a prescription in which i politely declined. This is a great example of the doctor not listening. This doctor gave me tramadol and said i could combine it with my current pain medicine. He said it was «not a problem» to take both at the same time.
I woke up today with a severe rash on my hands. I called a regular doctor in 4S ranch (highly recommend them! right off Dove Canyon) who saw me this afternoon. Turns out I have hand foot and mouth disease. This doctor said two things:
1. He wasn’t sure why the other doc gave me an antibiotic. I have a virus. I need to stop taking it ASAP. (PS: taking antibiotics just to take them is not a good idea. you build up your immunity to them.)
2. He said NOT to take tramadol and my pain medication together. He said it significantly increases your risk of getting addicted. No one recommends this and he wasn’t sure why the doctor said that I should.
Pros:
— There’s a «Well person» and «Sick person» areas in the waiting room.
— Place looks relatively clean
Besides the fact that they have poor operational efficiencies and not-​so-​friendly nurses, the doctor here misdiagnosed me and put me on drugs that could have hurt me in the long run! He did NOT listen to anything that I said to him.
I learned a lesson yesterday. Make sure your doctor is truly listening to what you have to say. If he’s not then MAKE him listen to you or walk out. This is your health. YOU are the customer. YOU are paying him. You have rights, you have a voice and you don’t have to sit there and accept poor behavior from people because they have MD listed after their name.

My optometrist had moved a few years prior and rather than see someone in a costco or walmart I figured I go get an eye exam at a «real» doctors office. Made an appointment with Dr Roger Litz. Exam is done and he states he will only write me a prescription for glasses not contacts as the don’t have my eye history, thus I’ll need to come back in a few months for another test since my left and right eye are different. I’ve been wearing contacts for 30 years. No desire for going to glasses. Doctor would not even discuss it. He needs a class in bed side manor. Won’t be going back to Dr. Litz. My advice, go elsewhere.

Every time I’ve been here the wait times have been pretty short and all of the doctors very professional and most of them very friendly as well. I would certainly recommend getting your doctor here, you cannot go wrong as far as professional and knowledgable individuals. Parking is a bit of a pain and like every person in San Diego everyone is in a big darn hurry to get nowhere so be extra careful and considerate in the lot and parking garage.

I love the staff and Doctors. but i hate the myscripps. Can never get in when i go back to it. no one to talk to. very annoying. I will probably not use it. So much for making things easier.

12:54 hrs. spoke with Patient Advocate Lady. How come she KNEW nothing about any Scripps policies but was able to access my medical records of my 4÷08÷2016 visit? I mean really, why bother. If Scripps wants to better itself as a company they need stop telling people to get in touch with Patient Advocate because they poorly trained. They can not fight for patients rights if they do not KNOW any of Scripps Policies. Scripps should rename Patient Advocates to «WE DON’T KNOW».

Plan an extra 20 minutes for parking if you drive anything bigger than a compact and you don’t want to end up with paint scuffs from other cars. I’m going elsewhere in the future if I have a choice.

It’s new.
It’s pretty.
It’s clean.
Everything is well labeled.
Plan extra time for parking.
There’s plenty of restaurants and shops nearby to grab a bite before or after.

I’ve received ok care here and also bad care, depending on the doctor. My biggest complaint is that, no matter the doctor, you’re treated just like a number. Forget about developing a relationship with your doctor for continued long term care. You literally get about 5 – 10 minutes with the doctor and you’re pushed out. You are treated like a used car going through a 10 minute express oil change place. Also, their costs are very high. I spoke to someone in their billing department to resolve a billing issue and they were flat out rude to me. I would only go here if you need a procedure done and never need to see the doctor again. If you need continued long term care and follow-​up, do yourself a favor forget this place.

I’d like to give this clinic a three star review before today. I took my baby to the clinic for immunization today. The nurse welcomed us this time made me feel really cold and not very friendly. It seemed that she had something more important to do, and did not want to spend too much time on my baby. However, it was not the most horrible thing happened today. After she gave my baby some shots, the nurse ran out of the exam room quickly. Then, I found there were some blood on my clothes because she didn’t place the bandages over the injection sites on my baby’s legs… Fortunately, I found some bandages in the exam room later. Horrible nurse, horrible experience.

Had a pretty smooth process. I think the only part I did not like about my visit here was the parking. I’m not too good a parker yet as I’m still pretty much a new drive, but luckily spaces opened up if you kept driving up. Tip for all, probably better to park in the afternoon because when I was leaving, so many spots had opened up. But hey, might be different for everyone.
Made a morning appointment — earliest open was 10:30AM as I was a new patient (never came here before). You have to apparently let the person on the phone know you can take any appointment at the earliest. I needed the pertussis vaccine as I recently got a niece :) and I wanted to make sure I was not going to infect her with anything. Upon walking into the building first, asked the kind lady at the desk which floor my doctor was. She gave me clear directions on where to go and I ended up where she directed me.
Got to the office, provided my ID & insurance card. Filled out some forms to the best of my ability. I found out how much I don’t know about myself from the process. My previous doctor mainly spoke Chinese — in which I understand to a limited ability. Used to be under my parent’s insurance.
I wanted to do a routine check up — so the basics to see if I was healthy. Got weighed — as I told the nurse how tall I was. And then was brought into the room. Nurse took my blood pressure, everything was normal. Met the doctor, and did the checkup on everything else. Got my flu shot and pertussis shot along with some information on the shots. Nice as now I know what’s it for. Since I fasted in the morning, I could get my bloodwork done as well. Was directed to go downstairs and towards the left of the exit. Going in, went to the desk, signed in and then waited for maybe 15 – 20 minutes. Got called, went in, got my blood extracted. And then I was done!
Got my results in the mail yesterday 11÷4÷2015 and I did the bloodwork on 10/​27/​2015 so pretty on time/​quick to me. Thankfully nothing wrong. Now, just waiting for the bill.

Well, here we go again. My wife has been dealing with this clinic for far too long. In this installment, she went to see her primary regarding a staph infection on her ear. She was referred to Dr. Wang, a dermatology specialist, by her primary physician, Dr. Miller. The medication that Dr. Wang had prescribed has not been working, and he had advised my wife that he might have to have her admitted into a hospital if the staph infection did not clear.
Well, it’s been a week, and my wife is no better. Hoping for relief, she called Dr. Wang, who then advised her that he never said he’d have her treated with IV antibiotics, even though I was witness to this conversation, and she needed to go to urgent care. Crying she told him how sick she felt and that she had been referred to him because he treated this type of infection. He then handed her a bag of antibiotics, told her she and myself needed to cleanse with a special cleanser, and to go to to urgent care if no better. She called the charge nurse at urgent care who stated they would not treat her. Then they told her to go to the ER and spend more money on top of the multiple company’s spent. This is the 4^th or 5^th infection of this type on her ear at this point. She called him today after doing what was prescribed, and told him she was not better. He stated he did not treat infections of this nature and to go to the ER. Why was she referred to him at all? He even suggested she go back to her primary whom referred her to dermatology in the first place. Why should a patient deal with the same infection over and over and at my wife’s request at least be referred to an Infectious Disease specialist? She refuses ER treatment because of horrible treatment at Scripps ER in the past so now I must worry at home that something horrible is going to happen.
I don’t know if Scripps Clinic realizes this, but patients actually like being taken care of. So far, my wife has gotten the run around, and no one there appears to be willing to take ownership of patient care.
Come January, my family is opting out of the Scripps «family» of doctors. The health premiums and co-​pays are much too high for the actual service received.

You know it’s pretty damn sad with American healthcare today is that there’s absolutely no compassion involved, cuz it’s all about them dollas…
Not one person said «I’m so sorry you are hurting right now» or «I’m sorry you broke your arm», but I did hear «Can I have your insurance card please», (over and over again) and «Can I have you please sign this insurance paper?» I HAVE A FUCKING BROKEN ARM WITH MY WRITING HAND… HOW THE HELL CAN I SIGN THIS…
My broken arm/​shoulder treatment I received was pretty legit, in and out 2 ½ hours, but I think it was because of the Fourth of July and there’s no one there. So I give that urgent care five stars based on pretty VIP treatment but not once did anyone say «I hope you feel better»… That’s piss poor…
So of course when you have a broken arm, you have to go to orthopedics after a couple days later.
After only three days, they wanted ANOTHER x-​ray, I refused. After I said what’s the meaning of that? What could possibly shown different in only three days… Collecting them dollas AGAIN… unless I am like Bionic Woman and her bones fuse together in miraculous time… what could possibly be different? Can you believe it the doctor even got a little hostile with me for refusing an x-​ray… Dr. Fellows was his name…
After waiting over 45 minutes AFTER my appointment time… waiting for him in the office to be seen (also the waiting room was EMPTY) FAIL… crickets… why the delay?
I didn’t feel like I was being seen by a doctor, more like an auctioneer, he was talking so damn fast… I even felt scared to ask him a question, and when I did, he took a deep sigh, hardly let me finish my question… sputtered a few words, not even looking at me, got up and walked out the door.
I guess he has to make that patient quota… Again, those DOLLAS… Scripps, Kaiser they are all same, I hope that more kids grow up to be kind compassionate caring doctors, in it to HELP people, not just to make money…
What it seems most days it people are becoming doctors to make money and forgetting what is the point of being a doctor… I GUESS DOCTOR’S FORGOT THEIR OATH…

My doctors, and their assistants, at this clinic are wonderful!
Everyone goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful.
My primary doctor — Dr. Limjoco — is very thorough, takes his times with me, is very knowledgeable, and very sweet.
My Ophthalmologist — Dr. Gariano — saved me from a surgery that another doctor had recommended, and, again is very thorough and brilliant with what he has done for me.
I could go on and on. Their assistants are just as friendly and helpful.
The only frustration I have is with their billing/​insurance department. They took months to get my insurance right — even after I had given them my insurance card several times. But the problem finally got corrected.
Even with that frustration, my doctors and other staff are such angels — informed, compassionate, efficient, and helpful — that they still get five stars!

I called my doctors office trying to get an appointment for abdominal pain. She is full so she advised me to go to urgent care. I arrived a little after 12:00 non today and it’s 3:40 and I have not seen a doctor yet!!!
When I checked in I told the woman that I was hungry, could I eat something. She said no, ok, I understand. BUT ITS BEEN ALMOST 4 HOURS!!! Now I am more than hungry — I am weak and having a hard time SITTING HERE.
If I didn’t think that my condition was semi serious I would have left hours ago!
