We love this little 5K !!! This race benefits Wounded Warrior Project, and that’s what initially got our attention. There are few causes out there more worthy than WWP, and to run with these magnificent athletes truly is something special.
This run/​walk is officially timed but there are no chips — it’s old school. The route is a flat and easy one that goes right along the water in Mission Bay. On today’s run, which was the 5th annual, the weather was a bit windy and chilly along the water, but that’s beyond anyone’s control.
The race benefits in that there are three other races in San Diego this Saturday, including the insanely popular Neon Run. So, the field today had about 300 runners/​walkers and the overall winner ran at about 18:00.
Parking is easy and available, and the entry fees are low with specials for military and students. The «Dri-​Fit» shirts are pretty sweet, and the food and water, all donated, were abundant and easily accessible. The one area this event could improve is advertising. I looked over this run several times on a listing because I just didn’t feel like bothering to look up what SDMPI is. Had the listing been marketed as Wounded Warrior, I would have signed up a long time ago. I wonder how many people did the same thing and just went for the catch Neon Run instead?
Rated three stars because this event is indeed «A-​OK» and will only grow and become more popular especially among the military.
