Seeds in the City is a boutique nursery in San Diego offering naturally grown, heirloom vegetable seedlings. We pride ourselves on bringing you varieties you can’t find anywhere else. Grow with us!
History
Established in 2008.
Seeds in the City began in Little Italy, San Diego, in 2008 as two tomato plants in my backyard. The taste of a fresh vine ripened tomato sparked a passion that grew from three raised beds to five; a chicken coop is now in the place of the original tomatoes. Through trial and error as well as many a late night reading every book on gardening and farming that I could get my hands on I learned how to grow a majority of our fruits and vegetables as well as raise chickens. In 2010, I completed the Master Composter course and with it we implemented a compost bin in the yard as well as a worm compost bin in the kitchen. Today, we strive to spread a little of the joy we have found growing and raising our own food to you. In addition to being a boutique nursery offering many different sustainably grown, non-gm, heirloom seedlings, Seeds in the City also offers consultations services for those looking to grow their own produce, raise chickens, start aquaponics and dabble in backyard beekeeping.
Meet the Business Owner
Jennifer O.
Business Owner
After many years of backyard gardening Jennifer started Seeds in the City in 2008, which quickly grew into a booth at the Little Italy’s Farmers Market. It was here that Jen learned her true passion for helping others learn how to grow their own food. Since then Jennifer has been featured on NBC 7/39, in San Diego Magazine, Mercato Monitor and at Williams & Sonoma. Now, Jennifer spends her days researching the best varieties for San Diego gardeners as well as visiting local backyards to consult on her tried and true methods.
