I am giving this place 3 stars coz of my different experiences at this place. Saying so, i am a VIP member of this place and coming to this place almost every second month .
1. first of all i feel this location — UTC is one of the bad –costumer service location .
i have better exp with fashion valley branch. You really need to chase the person here to get some help to locate things in case u cant find .
2. last time i came to this place around 7 pm, asked the girl for some foundation recommendation, she started using lancome on my face with no interest, she kept checking her watch again n again and that itself pissed me off. on top of that, at about 7:05 she said oops i need to go, my shift is over, and she left foundation half applied on my face, this was really unprofessional, if this itself was not enuf, when i check foundation didn’t match my color tone at all, this was horrible experience for me .
3. also i feel products like perfume, straighteners, curling rods are pricey here, you can get same brands on amazon for almost 30% less price.
4. i dont like eye liners of sephora brand, they are cheaper than other brands like lancome, urban decay etc but they very very bad, they get dry up so quickly, that you will feel totally waste of money .
still i am giving this place 3 stars for the below facts : —
1. i love the free bday present, last year i got mascara with liner, and this year marc jacob lipstick n travel gel liner. both the Gifts were Great.
2. i love the brands they carry other than sephora brand in itself, Brands like hourglass, urban decay, marc jacobs, lancome etc all under one roof, its like paradise.
i love hour glass 1.5mm eye liner, its sleek and amazing and i am not able to find it any where other than sephora .
3. i like the collection of nail paints and lip gloss here. they have a good range of colors and prices .
4. i love their travel size products, almost every type of cosmetic is available in travel size .
5. all in all if u like make up, and u live near UTC, u will have LOVE HATE relationship with this place «I hate you, like i love u » :P

Had an interview with this company and everything seemed very unprofessional at this location. I left the in the middle of the interview which has never happened before. Haha I love the fashion valley location though!

The past two times I went to Sephora, Tatiana helped me find my wants and needs. She recommended her favorites to me which I ended up buying at the end of the day. She was extremely bubbly and kind, making it easy to listen to her and also to talk with. The second time I came into Sephora she remembered me and gave me a big hug! Making me feel welcome and appreciated. My recent favorites are the matte foundations/​primers/​becca highlighters. I highly recommend this location of Sephora!

I want to make it a point to provide a justifiable shout-​out and two thumbs-​up kudos to Kelby/​Adam who is one of Sephora’s very pleasant and knowledgeable/​very astute makeup artists/​beauty advisors @ the Sephora store in University Town Center [UTC] in San Diego, CA. Why? For the better part of three months I’ve been testing various makeup/​foundations unfortunately with little or no success to supersede Sisley’s Transmat Beige Clair 0 foundation that I faithfully used for over fifteen years before it was lamentably discontinued. No, this isn’t a misprint!
Makeup/​foundation experienced Kelby took a close-​up look at me and my nearly flawless complexion and he immediately indicated that the new YSL Touché Éclat B20 in Ivory would be/​should be perfect for my skin tone/​complexion. Bottom line: Thanks to Kelby I absolutely love this new YSL Touché Éclat B20 foundation. Really nice dewy finish and it gives that English rose fresh-​faced look. It blends nicely into one’s skin, I wear it with a Clairins loose powder and it lasts approximately 8/​9hours. [Probably with a primer it might last even longer] It sits nicely on one’s face without being too cakey; yet, it still provides sufficient natural-​looking coverage. It’s a lighter foundation which I like because it makes me look younger than I am. I’m a former haute couture fashion model and TV spokesperson and not too long ago I was actually carded at a nightclub in San Diego. Really! Thus, with this new YSL foundation one doesn’t have that porcelain/​plastered doll monochromatic look. Overall, thanks to Kelby I really love this new YSL makeup and seemingly so does everyone else I encounter because invariably I’ve gotten nothing but rave reviews on how well I look wherever I go since I started testing it. Again, thank you Kelby/​YSL and Sephora!!!

Hilary and Madison my favorites. Every Time I come in they’re my go to girls. Both are very great at giving advice about make up and facial products. I ask a million question and these ladies have the best patience. I’ve bought products recommended by both of these ladies and I don’t regret my purchases at all.

Sephora UTC is great. They have all the beauty products you could ever need. There is always someone to help you pick colors and advise you.
The best part is their makeup service. The professional makeup artists always do an excellent job. Just make sure to make an advance appointment for your special event.

10% purchase alright gotta check that out. I wandered around the store just checking out everything. With that kind of deal how can I pass up.
I had enough time so I got an eyelash application. First she had me pick out lashes then she applied them for me. Other time I’ve had this done was for my wedding. The ones I picked out were neutral and not too dramatic. She had to cut them shorter since I have tiny eyes lol.
I ended up buying lashes, eyelash glue and black eyeliner. I used to be able to write a check here. yes I am old. I wrote it out while she rang me up. She checked my I. d then verified with manager. Goes to tell me they don’t accept it. I said I’ve done this before then she says store policy. Ya I get it! You want your money now!

I was overwhelmed when I first walked in, but Khole came up to me right away and helped me. She helped me pick out a lip stain by chosungah22. She made my first experience at Sephora great!

This location is located in the Westfield UTC Mall in La Jolla, close to Apple. They have a great big selection of items and a good number of customer service representatives to help and assist customers. They accept cash and credit/​debit cards as a method of payment. They have a Sephora rewards program that you can sign up free of charge. When you make purchases, you earn points towards samples that you can redeem.
I don’t often come to this store in general because I know how crazy busy they can get. I recently came in to search for a black liquid eyeliner that I can easily wipe off with water.
Luckily, a friendly worker was able to assist me with my questions and she was able to point me to the right direction. I specifically requested for an eyeliner that was affordable and worked real well. I did mention that I did not want an eyeliner that needed an oil-​based cleanser to remove. What was really nice of this lady who assisted me was that she explained and demonstrated how waterproof eyeliner was really «waterproof», but with pressure, the eyeliner can easily be rubbed off and causing a smudged look. With her demonstration, it allowed me to make a better choice and so I decided to purchase the Stila liquid black eyeliner. The color application is really black and bold, and even though it is «waterproof» I would still be able to wipe off the eyeliner with just water.
I will definitely be coming back to this location when I need some type of beauty product.

Wanted to give a shout out to Amanda when I came to visit the store on February 22^nd around 11am. I’m really picky about my brow makeup so I change my mind a lot. I changed my brow definer to a brow wiz at this location because fashion valley didn’t have my dark brown :(Amanda made my experience really memorable and comfortable. She clearly loves her job

Holyyyy crap. I ask myself ‘why didn’t I come here sooner?!’
Service here is incredible. Everyone is so knowledgeable, friendly, and ready to help! I’ve never visited a full store, I used to stick with the closest to me which is a small store inside JCPenny, and now I’ve seen the light.
They had everything that I needed in stock, which was really exciting. Charisa (sp?) was wonderful and pretty much did my makeup without me asking which I loved. It was New Year’s Eve and I didn’t have to wait long for anything either, they know how to handle crowds for sure!
I think I’ve found my usual store, I can’t go back to small stores where nothing is in stock, you have to wait 20 mins to be helped, and you end up having a bad experience.
Visit them, or better yet schedule a makeover and have an even better experience!

Today I had for the first time a sort of unpleasant experience here at Sephora. I am a VIB member, and have been for many years and am usually very very pleased with their service. That is not to say, they did horrible today and that I wouldn’t go here again. It’s just that luck for convenience and customer service was not on my side. Couple that with the holiday crowd, and you get for an opportunity to provide exceptional customer service go ka-​put.
For one, no one greeted me or asked me if I needed help, like they do in Fashion Valley (Fashion Valley location customer service has always been exceptional). I had been in the store for over 20 minutes before going up to the register. Understandable… it’s a busy time of the year. There was actually one point when I chased a lady down to ask her a question and said out loud «excuse me «, I have an question. And she kept walking. Pretty sure she heard me as she was facing me but who knows.
I was testing out different lipsticks and noticed that the 5 eyeliner travel pack from Urban Decay was on sale from $ 30 to $ 19. I just bought it about 2.5 weeks ago. Sephora generally has an awesome return policy (try it, buy it, return it if you don’t like it), so I didn’t think getting the price difference would be difficult. After all, I had the receipt with me (luckily). Anywho, after waiting in the holiday line, I let the customer service representative know that I saw the eyeliner set on sale for $ 19 instead of the $ 30 I purchased weeks ago, and would like the difference refunded. Like every place I have been to, they gladly return the difference (within the return period guideline). Lucky for me, Sephora does not have a return date guideline, and plus it had only been 2.5 weeks.
The lady at the register said she had to check on it, and see if it was possible or how to do it. There I am wondering what is so difficult… just return the old one and then ring up the «new» one, and refund the difference. She checked with the gal… and this gal she asked if I had a receipt, and I said I did which was already presented to the original cashier. She took a look at it and said that it was possible, but that I had to bring the actual set I had at home and then they would give me the difference. The thing is, with most products of the same color/​style, it is the SAME CODE! Why would I have to bring the set I brought from home, when they could have easily returned the one on my given receipt and then ring up a new one? Why would I drive all the way back home, and come back for $ 11? And what was the point of bringing the set back? The proof of purchase was on the receipt. That’s how every other store does it. She said that she would get a manager to double check. Needless to say the manager said it was definitely possible and returned the one on my original receipt and then rang up the new one, and gave me the refund in cash.
The transaction took a while, and I was quite peeved that something so easy would take so long. Instead of feeling like a VIB, I felt very unimportant. I am glad It got resolved, but hoping training improves here.

No matter what sephora I go to the staff are always helpful and cheeful. My favorite store in the whole world never let’s me down. This one in particular I’ve never been to, but was in town so dropped by. Of course I ended up purchasing something but also received information on free beauty classes sephora offers which I had no idea existed! Super great blonde employee (didn’t catch her name) was answering some questions about contouring and pulled out a flyer with free classes on it. I’m super excited! The employee was very informative and I appreciate that. I will be attending one this week.

Jasmine was excellent! Finally a store I didn’t have to wait around searching for help for 20 minutes. She immediately saw me trying out a product and told me how much she loved it. She wasn’t pushy about purchasing anything and her friendly and nice demeanor made her approachable to ask about other products without pressure. She ended up giving me great recommendations. After she was done assisting me I saw her helping another girl, so it’s nice to see someone always helping out instead of others who just stand around and ignore you (haven’t seen any in this store, just speaking generally). Very nice & knowledgable!
Store is very clean and usually has what I need as well. Samples aren’t all nasty like some other stores, one of my fave Sephora locations!

After eyeing some of Kat Von D’s lipstick line online, I had to come to Sephora literally to see the shades in person before flashdancing purchases on the computer without really knowing the color shades.
I was hesitant at first, based on the fact that I HATE high pressure pushy sales shopping experiences. I was stoked… nobody asked me for help, nobody bothered me, I just got my shades of Studded Lipstick, asked a few questions at the counter, friendly cashier… and was on my way… quick and painless… unlike the alien testing I encountered a few hours earlier…

Love love Sephora! They have every beauty product that I need. Yes, it can get pricey and super crowded at times but the quality of products is amazing. Yes, this store is smaller than the others but overall carries all the items I need.
In addition to their great selection of products, I found another gem about this store: their makeup artists! My sister and I got our makeup done by Jessica and Jordann for a formal event this weekend. We were very happy with their skills! They were sweet, helpful, and really listened to what we were looking for. You can get a complimentary makeup session if you purchase $ 50 worth of items on the same day. NOTE: you cannot bring your own eyelashes, you must purchase from Sephora if you want them to apply it. I would recommend making an appointment ahead of time.

I love Sephora.
If you never go, at least go during your birthday month! The loyalty program allows you to get a free birthday gift during your birth month. This is the third year that I’ve enjoyed it! This year I got some NARS lipsticks.
The people who help you here are really awesome about being courteous with their suggestions.
If you aren’t sure what you want, you can play with everything!
Every time I go in, I spray a different fragrance and wear it around. They say to do that so you can see how the perfume changes with your particular chemistry. I’ve found great scents this way!
I also paint my nails sometimes to see how a new formula will wear on me.
They have an easy return and exchange policy and it’s a great place to go if you just want to treat yourself and spruce up a bit with a new product! They seem to always have the latest and greatest.

This, like many other Sephora gets pretty busy on the weekends. Best to come off peak hours if you need help.
I asked for a couple samples and it took a little while waiting for someone to be free. Another customer asked an associate to put on a foundation on them and was told it could be about 30 min and suggested making an appt for a mini makeover in the future. They definitely do need more associates on weekend. The aisles van get pretty crowded and tight at times. Aside from the peak time businesses, Sephora is awesome.
Sephora offers free classes that you can sign up. I’ve taken a class or two and it’s great because you get to try on different make up brands and you get personal attention. Classes at UTC are generally Sunday mornings before they open. All the associates during the classes are super helpful and really nice.
Return policy is great! In store samples usually are only good for 1 – 3 applications, so you don’t really get a sense of the product. I have purchased a few items and after trying it for a week or two, have returned items that didn’t work out. This definitely gives me confidence in purchasing.

UTC Sephora, why do you NEVER have enough worker to help me out?
I wouldn’t consider myself a make-​up noob, in fact, i’m fairly certain I have a knowledgable idea of make-​up/​skincare. However, when I do decide on visiting Sephora the goal is to talk to an associate and see if there’re any recommendations for my needs.
That said, I’ve been coming to UTC Sephora for years now. I’ve always had mediocre experiences here but today was the first day I decided to just put down what i was going to buy and walked out the door.
I’m going on a trip to Asia in JULY, so lord knows I will be sweating my face off and I wanted some recommendations for products to use while I’m there. I asked 3 people. First lady recommended a bunch of things and walked away. (really, you can’t show me where they are?) whatever, roamed down the aisles feeling like i was on a scavenger hunt. asked the Second lady about where to find the items described by lady #1. She was actually pretty good but only recommended super expensive things. Third lady, and this was what pissed me off. she just goes «Oh, i’m helping someone else out right now.» Walked away and started laughing with some other lady. WHAT THE HECK does a person have to do to get some help around here!!!
SO i put down the hourglass primer and left the door. Never coming back here. If you need to talk to an associate and get recommendations etc, go to fashion valley.
I’d only come back to UTC Sephora if i am returning an item.

Sephora is located right next to the Apple Store and in front of LUSH in the Westfield UTC mall. This location is of decent size and often well stocked of their products. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable, they are very helpful so utilize them for any suggestions, etc. I like the overall layout of the store, with the makeup in front and all the skincare products in the back. My main complaint is that since the store has a narrow structure it can be a bit difficult getting around other shoppers to get to the back (I love my skincare products). Otherwise this is a great, friendly location and the one I most often frequent for all my skincare or makeup needs.
I have also come here for a VIB Rouge event late last year and it was so fun! They offered sparking apple cider, cookies and chocolates. They even had a staff member offer you these goodies and samples of masks or cleansers while you waited in line. Nice touch! Looking forward to more VIB events in the future :)
