History

Established in 2003.

Before Soltan Banoo opened its doors, Mahin and her two daughters Roxanne and Sanam ran Café Caspian across the street. Café Caspian, a tiny two room tearoom came about through the encouragement of the community for Mahin to express her creativity and cooking. The limitations of the tiny kitchen actually led the women to reinvent the traditional recipes of their ancestors and create fusion dishes. So the dishes, like Mahin’s grandmother, Soltan Banoo (King Lady) became unconventional!

So it went that in 2003, the trio moved operations across the street and named the restaurant after great grandma, an educated and independent woman who lived in 19th century Iran. Today the three ladies work hard to create a warm place for all to gather, see a little of Iran (or Persia as it was at the time of Soltan Banoo) in University Heights and try Mahin’s healthy, creative and eclectic homecooking.

Meet the Business Owner

Mahin M.

Business Owner

Mahin is a multi talented lady who started the restaurant with love and still «moms» anyone who comes through the door. Her Jewelry adorns the restaurant while her decorations take you back to her homeland. Come visit her for lunch, otherwise Sanam, her daughter will greet you for dinner!
