St. Andrew’s by-​the-​Sea Episcopal Preschool provides a play-​based program is designed to enrich learning by providing a variety of educational activities and valuable learning experiences, including math, language arts, science, pre reading skills, creative art, music, gross motor activities, field trips and structured as well as self-​directed play.

We also offer a new transitional kindergarten class, starting the Fall of 2012, which provides an age-​appropriate year of readiness for kindergarten, focusing on children as global learners, drawing on their strengths and utilizing a place-​based approach to early childhood education.

History

Established in 1967.

We have been providing high quality early childhood education to the community of Pacific Beach and beyond for nearly 50 years.

Heather G.

Manager

Hi, my name is Heather Gasner and I am the new Director of St. Andrew’s by the Sea Episcopal Preschool. I am happily married to my husband, Darien and have two wonderful children, Kyle and Kelsey. I am a San Diego native and currently live in Santee. My family loves the beach and doing water sport activities together! I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and have worked in the field for the past 25 years as a Teacher, Mentor, Director and NAEYC Validator. Working together with parents and staff, I continually seek new and creative ways to assure that each child fulfills his/​her potential and has their needs met. I believe that children learn through play and I strive to provide a rich and stimulating environment that promotes development in the whole child including the social, physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual side of each child. I look forward to meeting and sharing with you our quality enriched preschool program here at St. Andrew’s.

I LOVE this preschool. My oldest son went there and graduated in 2010. My youngest is currently enrolled in the 3 year old program. The director Heather is so accessible, she’s such a hard worker, so kind and is always there with a smile on her face. St. Andrews by-​the-​Sea is really just focused on the children and is play based. However, they really prepare your child academically for Kindergarten. The year my son entered Kindergarten at Bird Rock Elementary, there were 7 other children from St. Andrews also starting at BRE. They were very prepared and had a smooth transition into Kindergarten. I love the outdoor program here taught by Ms. Debra. There is so much focus on music, art and creativity. When my oldest child attended St. Andrews, I was a stay-​at-​home mom and so he only went 3 half days. Now I work almost full time and I LOVE that I can leave my child at school most of the day and know that she is well taken care of.

I have sent both my children to this school and LOVE it. We drive 20 mins each way just to come here!!. After visiting about 8 different schools back in 2013 we decided on St Andrews. My first thought was it felt like a real school. I loved all the bright colors and the themes! The playground area was great sized and I felt the school had a sense of security, which was important to me. My kids enjoy/​enjoyed going there. The director Heather is AMAZING. she is reassuring, easy to talk to and takes great care of her staff. They have had low turnover in teachers which is great! Everyone is so caring and really make the children feel special. There are always activities going on for the children. Their summer program I have to say is really fun too! All in all I would recommend this school to anyone who asks!

This place is great! My 2 ½ yo daughter just started coming here this summer. We receive pics periodically via email showing what the kids are up to. Each week has a theme… they are always busy with different activities. My daughter is always having fun when we pick her up and she’s learned a ton since she started attending St Andrew’s!

I tried to get my oldest son in St. Andrews when he was younger and they had no space, so he went to another school and unfortunately was not prepared for kinder upon entering elementary. It has been a struggle ever since!
My youngest started this year in the Dolphin room and has just flourished there. He actually moved into the transitional kinder class because he was ready for the challenge. I credit this not only to him, but to the great teachers that he has had at the school. He’s now had 3 teachers and loves them all. They are very caring and supportive of the children there.
I love the environment of the school. There is a huge sense of community and they are always doing fun enrichment for the kids and for the parents as well. They have done a great job redoing the playground as well! It looks amazing and there are tons of different things for the children to engage in while outside!
I could go on, but hopefully you get the point!
I love this school and would definitely recommend it to everyone!

This preschool was one of the first places that made our family feel comfortable with our cross-​coutry move. The teachers have a genuine interest in the kids, and keep a very open line of communication. The entire staff, headed by a fantastic new director, are always working hard to improve the already lovely environment and enhance the learning experiences & socialization of the children. I recommend!

I looked into a few different schools 4 years ago before signing my son up for St. Andrews, I ultimately chose this school because it was close to home and seemed homey. In the last 3 ½ years the school has been a huge blessing to my family. There have been many positive changes especially within the last year. There is a big sense of community, love, and compassion at this school.
The new director there is amazing. She has made positive changes throughout the school. The playground has had an amazing face lift, as well as the front of the school. She is very open to parent suggestions, and volunteers which I personally really enjoy. The way she and the staff care for the kids is amazing.
I am very sad that my time is ending at Saint Andrews. My child is more than ready for Kinder next year both academically and emotionally thanks to the encouragement, and teachings from the teachers. It will be a very bitter sweet goodbye in June at graduation time.

One of our sons attended this school for a year prior to kinder and the other has attended a year and a half and has a year to go. My husband and I have been very happy with the school. The teachers are caring and the director, Heather, has been working really hard this past year to make a great school even better. Our boys always enjoyed going to school and had nothing but great things to say about their experiences with classmates and teachers.

I love this school! Both my sons attended this small, warm, nurturing, and homey school. It came recommended to me by a choosy mom that I know who had nothing but good things to say about the teachers and staff. The building is not a lot to look at, but this year they have put in many improvements. I know my children are safe, well cared for, and both have been very well prepared in their Kindergarten readiness skills. I noticed a parent that was concerned about the nap schedule. It is not that long and currently, I believe, you can have your child participate in enrichment classes rather than nap. I’d encourage you to call Judy, the director, and she would provide you with good information. I love love love the last three teachers that my boys have had — all were full of creative energy and kindness.

I love this school! We looked at others in the area, and even enrolled our older son in one of the other schools here in PB, because St. Andrew’s was full, but pulled him out of it because it was not at all what we wanted size, and safety wise. Getting our youngest son into St. Andrews was a blessing! I love that it is a reasonably priced half-​day Christian program. The staff is friendly and the kids love them. We are so pleased with the progress our son has made this school year, and we will be enrolling him into the three day a week program for next year.
