Tamale lady, you’re so mysterious. You appear and reappear at your whim selling your wares. You sell many different types of tamale, and I can never tell when I’m going to get a good one or a bland one. I like your cheese tamales. You should reappear more often when I’m in OB.

Guilt Ensues I REALLY wanted to love the tamale cart lady, but I just tried a pork guy and a chicken guy, they weren’t too flavorful, and not very warm. I threw half of each in the garbage. I am sorry Tamale Lady. I will try again, tho.

I’ll admit, it’s a cart on the sidewalk with a woman selling tamales, but she assured me that she’s a permanent fixture and has a permit to be sellin’ the hot steaming goodness on the street! There’s even seating! Many options to choose from, including pork, chicken, pinneapple, and cheese for a mere $ 2.50. I know, I remember when the going rate for tamales was a buck too, but these are fairly large and worth the up-charge. You can also get them«wet» for a $.50 fee, or in a bowl with cheese and various other toppings for $ 5.00. Having just eaten a Roots next door, I settled for a single pork one. I was addicted after the first bite! These things are amazing, my aunt Victoria ain’t got nothin’ on these babies! Deliciously moist, perfect dough-to-filling ratio, excellent spices, tender pork, and even traditionally wrapped in a corn husk! Not only that, as a complement to my Thai wrap at Roots, it rounded out my meal perfectly. I’m glad I took a chance. You should too! I know it may be a bit much for a tamale, but come on, the economy is sour, and you can’t put a price on doughy goodness!
