Highly professional and tremendous knowledge of trees. We call Ted the Tree Whisperer.
They came in lower than another arborist who had also told me it would take over a week to do the job. Ted and his crew did it in a half day. We had hugely overgrown pines that needed to be laced. Cleanup was excellent. Had them back a second time to remove a bunch of dead alders. Same professionalism. Ted also installed a bunch of soakers to keep the trees healthy. We are having them back later to plant some new trees where the dead ones were. They know their stuff!

I am highly impressed by the expertise of Safford and Son. Ted provided an in-​depth, educational site survey for my large Eucalyptus. The knowledge I garnered was specific to my problem. The $ 85 fee was reasonable.
Ted called later to say that he could complete the work within the week. A couple of days later the Safford team installed a root barrier system and drip line. Every person showed professionalism, friendliness and communication skills. The yard and adjoining areas were cleaned following installation.
I am planning to continue hiring Safford and Son for further work and maintenance of the Eucalyptus.

We recently hired Ted and Tim to remove a tree from our back yard. The price was reasonable, the crew was on time, efficient and friendly, and the entire job, including meticulous cleanup, was completed in less than an hour. These guys are outstanding, and we recommend them.

I’ve used Ted and Tim twice a year for the last 12 years or so and they’ve always done a superb job. Tim and his crew always do a thorough job with excellent cleanup. We had 2 Schefflera trees in the courtyard of our condo building. They were difficult because of fences, stairs, and a Jacuzzi right next to them. But they removed them with no problems, ground the stumps out, and were finished in about 2 hours. They also trimmed 2 trees for us. They did a great job — on time, efficient, and professional.

Ted Safford and Tim have been taking care of our two big Canary Island Palm trees and Date Palm trees annually for the last twelve years. You can not find a better team than these guys that are resonable, reliable and trustworthy. Hard working, professional, funny and sweet, too. They do the job right the first time around and no hidden costs. It is an art to know how to trim these magnificient trees perfectly. Tim and his crew always take their time on doing an incredible job on our trees. Always on time and they clean up the place better than when they had arrived. Tim is very knowldegable on what he does and is always willing to do extra work if needed for other parts of our yard.
We have recommended them to our neighbors, friends and families. It has been a pleasure working with and getting to know the family members over the years. if i could give them a ten star review, i would’ve gladly done so.

Ted and Tim are simply amazing! They did a phenomenal job for us in a complicated yard. They removed numerous shrubs, bushes and tree roots and they were flawless. Our lawn was filled with thick tree roots and many utility lines. Their clean-​up was perfect too.

We needed 2 pecan trees laced and shaped as well as 5 stumps grinded down. Got about 5 different quotes, these guys were right in the middle and we just felt good about them. I’m glad I went with my gut because they did an excellent job. Tim and his crew were polite and did fantastic, quick work. Tim also gave us tips on how to restore our trees back to what they once were. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone needed tree service.

Ted Safford came out on a Saturday to do a quote for me. His quote was the best out of three. He was very blunt and honest about what work should be done and gave me some good advice about not putting in fruit trees on the north side, what trees should be laced, palm seed pods that needed to be taken out, etc. Ted is very old school, hand written quote in cursive writing, wise observations about tree placement. He has been an arborist in San Diego for 35 years, he told me.
Then his son, Tim, came about a week later with the crew. They did amazing work — the trees look great! They left the place cleaner than it was before and even removed a pile of garden waste I had created. They planted a large tree for me that will grow into a privacy screen in 3 years.
I had some last minute extra jobs for them (trimming cape honeysuckle, vines) and they got them done no problem at very little extra cost.
I would say they are very professional, affordable, outgoing, and honest. Best tree service in San Diego!
