I loved everything about this place! Food was excellent, service excellent, the server even served our meals family style because she was attentive enough to notice we were sharing our entrees. Excellent service and great little details all around. We’ll be back soon!

Phew! I am still sweating! That alone is worth a star. Had avoided this place after my unpleasant experience at Pinto Thai(their sister restaurant). Had the Som Tum. Asked what they scale their heat on and they said 1 – 10. Ordered an 8 and GOTAN8! This is a small miracle! The food was excellent, the server gracious(unobtrusively handing me napkins as I died a minor death). The salad was great. Nicely piquant. The beer, Chang, complimented it nicely. The décor was great. Definitely will come back!

Super friendly folks — the owner was a total peach when I got there and couldn’t find parking! She let me park briefly in their employee lot back behind — pretty much just double parked behind her car in the alley. I had pad thai and panang takeout, my friend and I both loved it! The sticky rice and mango was also delicious — they had very good, fresh ingredients and it showed. I will absolutely be back!

Small spot, cute, and I want to like you. But when I compare you to my other thai ‘joints’, I find my meal here lacking. I ordered panang curry beef, spicy level 7. The portion size is smaller and the cost larger. The beef was too chewy and the curry too thin. Tastes great, but texture needs some work. The competition is still in this area of san diego, and you guys just need to up your game a little bit. Would I eat here again? Sure, but only if I couldn’t get to my other spots for some reason. I almost feel bad giving this place two stars, but that’s Unilocal

This is where I go for Thai when I’m too lazy to drive further away. It’s a short walk and convenient. The staff is nice. It’s an extremely small space, so if you’re into a cozy atmosphere you’ll love it. If you’re claustrophobic, you’ll probably hate the spacing in here. If you’re not familiar with Thai food, you’d probably like this place. If you know your Thai food, and you’re picky. This place is only average and won’t satisfy any true cravings. The Pad See Iw is not the best in town, in fact the noodles were dry for this dish. The Pad Thai is average as well. The Tom Yum is ok, though the broth is lacking. Their curry is good. I prefer the panang or green curry. *They’d receive a higher rating, but they’re over-priced for the actual quality of the food.

Ok, I need to preface this. The review you’re about to read is an average white guy review. I’m no expert on Thai food. I’ve haven’t been to Thailand, don’t know every ingredient to a proper curry, etc, etc. That said, I really dig this place. I’m not one for deep-fried crunchy asian dishes so I skip those apps. But the wok dishes and curries(sp?) here are great. They’re flavorful, cooked well and the veggies have good bite to them. We take out most of the time, but have come to dine in and the service was good. When it comes to spicyness, on a scale of 1 – 10, I’m usually a 6,7. Not so here… and most Thai places for that matter. More like a 2. I’m man enough to admit that. Big fan of this place. Wish they had a driver for deliveries more often, but the bike ride over is a good one and helps ease the guilt of stuffing my face immediately after.

I am a fan. Not a big fan of super spicy but man they can do a great soup and the messy afro shrimp appetizer was neat. Drinks are also cheap and the service is five stars. Easily get away with a 45.00 date night: dinner and drinks here. my fat lady is happy and the Ol wallet is happy too. No, its the other way around…

Great service! The food is also delicious. Don’t laugh but this was the 1st time I ever had Thai food. Will definetley be going back. I had no idea you can choose the spice level of foods 1 – 10. I am a whimpy 2 but enjoy the soups and Afro shrimp here. Awesome service, cozy lil place!

The only reason I’m rating this down from 5-stars to 4-stars is the price. Two entrees and two thai teas for nearly $ 30 is a bit pricey. I know this place has been Unilocaled by many, but mom & pop shops like this shouldn’t charge an arm and a leg, especially when the quality is good, but not ridiculously unique. I guess they get away with charging this much since it’s a small, intimate restaurant(the place looks like it’s meant for couples or a romantic dinner date… the tables are small and the lighting is low), my visits have been on Tuesdays around 8PM, so you might get a different feel during the daytime. Both times I’ve gone, I ordered the yellow curry with chicken and the fiancé’s ordered pad see ew with beef. The server is always friendly and prompt at seating us. For the yellow curry, he/she(different server each time) asks if I want white or brown rice with the yellow curry. Also, they ask on a scale of 1 – 10 how spicy we’d like the meal to be… love that part! Daryl and I initially asked for a 6 and 4, respectively, but the heat wasn’t as overwhelming as we thought it’d be. Last night, I got a 7, while Mr. Wanaflamingtounge got a 10. Meh. He was right. The 10 wasn’t that spicy. We’re used to Korean and Indian food, so this was no sweat. I do appreciate the fact that the heat does not detract from the flavor of the meal. Portion size: it’s… okay. Call me a chub-chub, but I’m able to finish everything on the plate and still have space for dessert. But again, dessert is overpriced, so I don’t actually order it. Despite the price, the service and the food(oh, I forgot, we also had calamari the first time… that was decent) are solid. Whenever I’m heading out to Le Stats for Comedy Night, I might actually make it Thai food night as well.

The Crispy Duck with Sesame Honey sauce made me realize I need more duck in my life. It came with a side of rice on a bed of what was described in the menu as spinach but was much more cruciferous(closer to cabbage) and broccoli. The duck wasn’t really crispy, but it was delicious. The vegetables were all fresh and cooked perfectly so they were tender but still had bite. The restaurant is tiny and probably not great for accommodating large groups. The service is good, attentive and well timed. The prices are reasonable and if the Crispy Duck is any indication of the rest of the menu, the food is delicious!

We came here with some non-veg friends and it was perfect because we could all order something that we wanted. Lots of veg and non-veg choices. I got the 3 flavor tofu, only because their menu says that its a must try. It was good– pretty spicy– but next time I would ask if they had brown rice, it comes with a side of white rice shaped in a heart :) My husband ordered the green curry with veggies. He enjoyed it, especially the spicy aspect. Our friends enjoyed their meals as well. I would suggest this place for anyone who wants some good food!

Ok, I admit that I ordered a lunch special — the sort of ubiquitous lunch special commonly found in Chinese and Thai restaurants that comes with a bowl of lukewarm soup, bagged salad, and two suspicious-looking fried wontons stuffed with who-knows-what. The kind of lunch special designed to fill you up cheaply and send you back to work quickly. I ordered the basil mixed veggie lunch special with mock duck. Mock duck was interesting and simulated duck skin. The mixed veggies were covered in salty sauce, good for mixing with white rice. On the plus side, the lychee martini is strong as heck and 2 beers for $ 6 seems quite reasonable. Also, the server was very sweet.

5.30.11: This Joint is certainly not THEJOINT. Servers seems nice, when we walked in it was super duper stuffy. There was no air circulating in the restaurant. We decided to eat outside, the sun was out and the breeze was nice. So we sat outside and I asked the server if she can clean the table since it was dusty. She use her finger to do the dust test. I was amaze that she did that. Kind of dirty, I hope she washes her hands. Anyhow we ordered the cup of soup, Tom Yum with Chicken. It was sour, no hotness at all. Next was their Simosas, it was bland, if it wasn’t for their sauce I would not have ordered it. I can’t remember what our main dish was because I was that disappointed. Oh Wait it was their spicy noodles with Beef. That was also bland. Overall I did however enjoyed just sitting outside. I don’t know if I would come here again.

Okay, okay okay so this place is not at all what I thought it was gonna be when a friend suggested Thai Joint. I thought I was gonna get high off some special weed… Nope, we just went to a little thai resteraunt in Normal Heights. It was pretty good though and I had the munchies anyway… which reminds me of this time… I wasn’t high but this bum I ran into was… or at least he said he was but he said he was drunk too so whatever. Anyway, this shelter challenged man told me stories of aliens and he barked at the moon. He encouraged me to do the same. So I’m barking at the moon with this homeless man when he stops and runs over to a nearby bench. I won’t tell you what was on this bench but I will tell you that the derelict ate whatever it was and flipped out! Okay, I will tell you… apparently this vagabond had confused magic mushrooms with dog poo and the rest is history. The vagrant vanished into the night and I never saw him again… I guess being high and having the munchies aren’t always a good thing.

This place was amazing. I ordered the Tom Kah soup with chicken and chicken pot stickers with a pomegranate iced tea. The service was prompt and the people are very friendly. The place is very small, it probably seats no more than 20 people inside and maybe 10 outside. The prices were also very low. When I go to any other Thai food place I usually pay $ 7 for a bowl of soup, but here it was only $ 4. I’ll definitely be coming back for more soon.

After being told there was a wait at Tao down the street, we stumbled upon this place. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday night(nervous!), but the food was excellent. Friend and I ordered the Thai Samosa and Pumpkin Curry. Both were delicious. The Pumpkin Curry was unusual for menus I’ve seen, but the chunks of pumpkin, baby eggplant and veggies were so good, we didn’t have leftovers. The coconut ice cream and fried bananas were ok. Just ok. The house merlot wine was fantabulous. I want to know what it was! Would definitely go back.

Great Thai food and it’s a great little spot in Normal Heights. There’s crazy Thai places in that neighborhood and it’s nice to have a few places like this in my back yard — complete with authentic Thai people, and authentic Thai foods. One bad thing about this place though… it’s TINY, so you might be waiting for a table or stuck sitting in the patio section. If you have any questions about this new place, I’d say speak with the owner — she was there that night and was very happy to answer all of our questions. You usually can’t find that now-a-days where the owner of the establishment listens to your concerns and talks to you about the restaurant — it’s like hanging out with the chef, which is also very cool. It’s a great little place and I’ll definitely be back!

A great little spot for Thai food in Normal Heights ! Its very tiny though and the seating capacity is probably under 20 people. You will sit very close to the other diners. 2 for 1 beer specials and good Thai food. Awesome. They have only been open for less than a month but I have already dined there 3 times.
