Specialties
Wines with soul.
We have an ever-changing list of small production wines, craft beer, and a seasonal food menu to match those drinks, all served in a space reminiscent of winery with barrels on racks and warm Tuscan colors.
History
Established in 2005.
We are currently in the process of building out our new full restaurant at 921 Market Street (Strata Building). We will provide the same great wines at retail prices with a small corkage, 30 tap handles of craft beer, and finally a full food menu to complement the drinks. Follow us on facebook.com/thecaskroom for more details.
We were frustrated with the lack of knowledge at wine bars & restaurants and wanted to bring a different approach to this type of business. We employ 2 certified Somms. and 2 CSW certified wine specialists who can talk exhaustively on the wines we are featuring
Over the years we have changed and expanded our food menu. We employ a full-time chef to craft a seasonal food menu using locally grown & prepared products. And, we now work directly with the largest importer of artisan cheeses from around the world.
Meet the Business Owner
Mike K.
Business Owner
Mike grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and hopes to have season tickets to the Steelers before he dies. He ventured out west to play football at Arizona State, and after graduation, went to work for a hotel’s corporate office in Denver. Skiing 50+ days a year and working in the financial part of wine was good. A move to San Diego for a new job came, and Mike continued to work in finance & now software architecture. Pre-mid life crisis came in his early thirties and a crazy dream to go to UC Davis and study viticulture was hatched but never implemented. Mike had met Steph and couldn’t do something so crazy. But, the wine idea stuck and he crafted the business plan for what would become The Cask Room, even though he wanted to call it Terroir. The idea was to make the space comfortable with leather couches and make it look like a winery. And, to actually *know* something about the wines, which we’re still stunned that our competitors can’t seem to do.
