The Gentlemen’s Tux Club

There was something majestic about this place that caught my eye. It was a Tuesday night and I was driving in my car when I was passing by the Gentleman’s Tux club. I caught a hard look and was astonished by the array of Tuxes out for display in the store front.
It hit me. «I have a Christmas party coming up in a few weeks», I said out loud. So I immediately circled back, parked and took a light stroll into the shop. I always get nervous walking into these things. There’s always an aggressive suit salesman that bombards you right off the cuff as you enter. Not this store. The first thing that welcomed me was this stunning, blue, sharp fitted suit on display that was the center mantel piece of the shop. It looked like it cost more than my car. Secondly, I was greeted by a kind, extremely friendly, sharp and dapper man. His name was John and he’s store owner of Gentleman’s Tux. John was very inquisitive, empathetic and I could tell he truly wanted to help me in my quest to find the perfect look for the occasion. It’s always very intimidating for a novice to find that right look for any occasion, but it was comforting to know that I was in good hands. John brought out a few tuxes for me to try on after he took my measurements. The assortment he brought out blew me away. I liked them all to be honest. And then there was the one. A sleek, dark navy blue tux with a black lapel. It was something Donald Draper would wear. It was elegant. It was classy. That was the one. John concurred, especially after he saw the sparkle in my eye. We both kind of smiled at that point.
What was most surprising to me was that this tux was VERY affordable and was exactly within my budget. I was shocked because a tux like that I would suspect would run me 3 times that. So much value I received from this purchase! During the Christmas party I received dozens of compliments and I felt good knowing that I showed up well in front friends and work colleagues. Details details details. You could tell that it was made just right. No one could have done a better job with the tailoring.
And you could tell that this one was made exactly for me. Just me. John, thank you for an amazing tux. You’ll always have my business.

I used the Gentlemen’s Tux Club on short notice to wear a tux for my daughter Lora’s wedding. The fit and style was great and my wife was very pleased that I came to the wedding in a tux.
John and the entire staff are simply outstanding and totally focused on the customer’s need. I am not an easy fit…6’6″ and 315 pounds with a 38 inch waist. I was fitted with a tux that looked custom made for me… and all at a really good price. From the time I walked in, through the fitting at pick up and return of the tux, this company is 5 star and first class.

Thank you guys very much for all your help. I know it wasn’t easy getting the tux I wanted but you guys delivered Im so grateful.

I came in a few weeks ago to purchase a tuxedo and picked it up today. John and Vanessa are so incredibly helpful throughout the entire process — being sized, trying on several pants and shirts to get the exact fit (I was being really picky and they accommodated!). I came in today for a final fitting and to take my tuxedo home. John was able to make a very quick, last-​minute adjustment to my pants while I waited. It took him only about five minutes and everything is perfect.
I can’t recommend this shop enough. Shop locally and DO NOT go to a huge, national chain who shall not be named!

This was my first time using them and I’m sure I will be using them for much more business.
I needed a tux for a charity ball. Venessa was the associate that helped me. She went above and beyond, she was very patient and really new what she was talking about. She’s not just an employee, she can really help guide you and explain the options.

My nonprofit was being honored at a gala awards dinner and realized then I should not just attend, but attend in style. Tuxedo on the mind, I did some research and found I was limited to mostly tired suit rental stores and stuffy bridal companies where tuxes are an afterthought.
Thankfully, i found The Gentlemen’s Tux Club. It seemed a bit more stylish and approachable, plus the reviews online were already pretty stellar.
John (the owner?) helped us out and he was fantastic about understanding what I was looking for and helping me through the process and making recommendations — I hadn’t rented a tux in a solid decade, so I needed the extra guidance.
I came in a few days later for a fitting and he wasn’t there, but two other women were and they were just as helpful and attentive. Everyone was a great and really made the tux-​renting process smooth and stress-​free.
And the price! I was expecting to drop north of $ 250, but spent about half that on my tux rental. Plus there were tons of options even lower-​priced than that.
All around, great experience. I highly recommend The Gentlemen’s Tux Club.

If I could give John and The Gentlemen’s Tux Club six stars, they would get it. I kid you not, I was in San Diego for a good friend’s wedding on October 16^th. I live in the Bay Area. My wife and I flew down on Thursday, and because we didn’t want to deal with the hassle of getting my suit and her dress on the airplane without wrinkling/​creasing or message with a garment bag, we sent it down with our roommate who was driving down on Friday morning…
Fast forward to Friday around 2 PM. The grapevine was completely shut down from mudslides after a storm, and there was no way he was going to make it in time for the 5 PM wedding. The roommate calls to say that we better go get some clothes. While my wife is buying a new dress, I start making calls. I called no less than 3 other suit rental shops, including some of the big names, and they all told me that they couldn’t help me. I made one last call to The Gentlemen’s Tux Club before I was going to give up and buy off the rack slacks and a shirt.
John answered and I explained the situation. He said he could have me ready and out the door in 20 minutes. I was there in 15 and he and his assistant had me looking sharp with plenty of time to make it back to get ready for the wedding without rushing. They even brought out an assortment of ties which PERFECTLY matched my wife’s dress. Could not believe it, and they saved us from a huge headache and unneeded anxiety!
Here’s the kicker. I’ve rented suits and tuxes on many other occasions, and not only did this suit look the best and fit perfectly, it was the cheapest I have paid for a rental. Please give this business your patronage! They helped save the wedding, treated us fantastically, and offered prompt and courteous customer service. A++.

My cousin got married a while back, and I was a groomsman. We got our tuxedos through Gentlemen’s tux club — the experience was easy and hassle free. I work a few blocks away– so it was very convenient for me. The tux fit great and the prices were more than reasonable. We all looked and felt sharp. My only complaint is that my first time there I waited about 25 min to be helped– however I will take that over a huge chain store any day. Keep up the great work.

Excellent service. John was patient and catered to my brother’s wishes in a tux for prom, as he was very particular with the style he desired. Highly recommend this place to anyone.

A great place to rent a tux! …they have a great selection, service was great and the prices are reasonable. You do not need to go else where.

I wear gym clothes to work, going in to rent a tux was intimidating at first. Then I was welcomed warmly by John and his awesome staff and had a great time trying on and selecting a Tux. I was on a budget but required a special cut, John hooked it up no hesitation at the same price I was originally shopping for. Couldn’t give a higher recommendation for tuxedo rental needs than The Gentlemen’s Tux Club and hands down the best customer service experience I’ve ever had in any purchase of any sort. Thanks for making an anticipated chore a pleasure, you guys are a class act through and through.

Wow! Wow! Wow!
John and his crew are amazing! My husband is 6’4′ and roughly the size of a football player. We walked in, told them when and what our event was along with our wedding colors and within minutes John had a near perfect jacket for my husband along with the perfect vest/​tie combo. We also had John fit our sons and they also looked dapper as ever!
We have 5 kids combined and during the final fitting a few of them started to get restless, John was so sweet he brought out delicious snacks for them!
I highly recommend Gentlemen’s Tux Club, and we’ll be going back if we ever need it!

For 17 years my company Details Defined has been referring Gentleman’s Tuxedo and for 17 years my clients have raved about the service, the knowledge, and the quality of attire they receive from John Jacques. Mine wedding John and not only delivered but altered a sleeve for one small ring bearer right on the spot. Never a missing piece and always «can do» attitude. We don’t use ANY other, why would we?

Where to start? Everything about this experience was absolutely terrific. John is as good as it gets if you are looking for a tux for a special occasion.
I got married just a few days ago and when I was looking for my wedding tux I discovered The Gentleman’s Tux Club on Unilocal.The reviews are terrific and so I decided to give go see the shop for myself. Right from the start I could see why there are so many good reviews about John and his shop. He was very personable from the beginning and I could tell that he really wants to give his customers the best tux possible.
I decided on a grey tux that was on display. It was not for rent, so I had to buy it, no problem. The tux itself needed a large amount of alterations to fit my body, but sure enough, when i showed up to pick up the tux it fit like a glove.
I had 7 groomsmen, and a few other people that needed a tux for the wedding and John took their measurements and worked his magic on all of the tux’s that were rented. Everyone looked fantastic. I could not believe the number of compliments that I received on my tux during the wedding.
John was very friendly and professional throughout this whole experience. His assistant Vanessa was also very pleasant and helpful. They are both wonderful people and I cannot say enough good things about this place. I will refer everyone that needs a tux to this shop.

I just stopped by The Gentlemen’s Tux Club and was very impressed. I only needed to get my tux measurements as I am going to be a groomsman in a wedding in Florida but was very impressed by John’s professionalism, knowledge, and willingness to help. He even took the time to bring a jacket out of the back to make sure that the coat measurements were accurate and to my liking. Whenever I find myself in need of a tux for a local event I will surely be returning to The Gentleman’s Tux Club.

Best place in San Diego to buy or rent a tux. John took great care of me and all of my groomsman. He made sure each of tux fit perfectly! Great experience. Cheaper than every other tux shop I went to.

This place is amazing! The owner John isn’t good at what he does simply because he’s great at what he does. He’s welcoming, attentive, and provides only quality work.
I went there as the first stop of suit searching for my wedding thinking I’d need to visit a few places before making a concrete decision. However, after meeting John and telling him exactly what I wanted he showed me a suit I just couldn’t refuse. Never had to go anywhere else!
Bottom line is that I’m a customer with high expectations and to be honest hard to impress and John surpassed my expectations and provided more than I asked for. Thanks John!

I went in to rent a tux on Sunday 2÷16÷15 and was helped by John (owner). This was my first experience renting or trying on a tuxedo and John made it not only professional and courteous but fun as well! He is extremely personable and knows everything there is to know about getting you fitted properly and looking your best in the right tux. Everything in the shop is super clean and the whole experience is just top knotch. I will rent all my tuxes from the gentlemen’s tux club from now on. Can’t say enough good things about my experience. Thanks John!!!

While the atmosphere and location may not come off as inviting, doubts become quickly erased once you meet the friendly staff at The Gentlemen’s Tux Club.
Not only is the service both friendly and helpful, but they are extremely knowledgeable and eager to ensure that you look your best on your special day. My fiancée and I went down to look at their inventory and get fitted. We already came in with an idea of knowing what we wanted, and John (the owner) took care of us and our needs.
After reading the negative feedback posted here, it is easy to see why people may have gotten upset: If you are headstrong and are going for a loud, unique look to your event, then you should look elsewhere. This place is all about class and making people look like, you guessed it, gentlemen.
I have yet to receive the tux, but felt that my initial experience was so great that I just had to post about it.
UPDATE: I got my tuxedo (tails and all) and it fit like a GLOVE. I was blown away with the precision of the tailoring. I looked like a million bucks, and it was all thanks to John and his dedicated team.
