Recently moved to San Diego and I have been on the hunt for a good haircut… found it!
I have had 4 bad haircuts since moving here but I will have to look no further. It was exactly what I wanted and she informed me through the entire cut of what she was doing. Really happy with the result and I will be back

I called this morning for a hair cut appointment and I was asked by Cari if noon would work. I said ‘yes’ so I showed up for my noon appointment. Cari was finishing someone’s hair so I figured that I was next since I had made an appointment with her. She calls up the next person (which should have been me) and says to me «He’ll only take a minute» and she takes the guy sitting in there when I got there for my noon appointment. Seriously — one minute? I made an appointment so I would not have to wait. Not sure why she would agree to an appointment if she wasn’t going to honor it.

Great place to get your hair cut. Cari, who runs the studio, is very friendly and takes her time with your hair. Would recommend to anybody in the area.

Great haircut place, the haircuts are great or better than great, grandiose! And with reasonable prices in a relaxed atmosphere, It’s a good team there and Cari does an awesome job, always seems to get it right, she’s a real PRO.

There is a golden nugget in Serra Mesa and that is the Hair Shop with its owner, Cari. I’ve searched for excellence in hair cutting in every city I’ve lived and finally found it with Cari. She is professional, welcoming, and genuinely concerned with providing a quality service. For myself, I’ve found it best to have an appointment but I’ve been in her chair when walk-​ins arrived and were warmly accommodated. After just a couple of visits, she knew not only the hair cut I wanted but has taken an interest in me personally. I feel like I have a found a friend and not just a barber. Her prices are very reasonable which makes tipping a pleasure. There is only one recommendation higher than I can give and that is, my wife says Cari does a great job.

Cari is fantastic. I think that she is one of the best barbers that I have ever visited. I was going to a larger corporate chain in San Diego, before I found this place on Unilocal (I should have checked Unilocal before). Cari was quick and did a great job!

The Hair Shop in Serra Mesa is THE place for a great haircut. Cari is a very talented stylist for both men AND women, appointments are easily scheduled or you can just walk in, and the price is very affordable!

I walked in around closing time and Cari was more than happy to help me. I told her I just wanted my hair trimmed, no idea what style, and she gave me an amazing cut! Quick, professional, and friendly on my wallet. I will definitely be back for another trim.

I brought in a picture and trusted Cari to cut my long curly hair of many years to a shorter style and she easily nailed it. Cari cuts my family’s hair very well for an affordable price. She is friendly and great with my kids. The Hair Shop is a gem to have in the neighborhood.

I’ve been going to Cari for hair color and cut services for close to 20 years, and she is always on point — knows exactly what I’m looking for in color, understands how my hair reacts to different formulas, and has a creative eye for suggestions when I come to her with the proverbial «I want something different but I don’t know what», lol! I always make an appointment, because I know my hair takes time, but my husband can call her on the same day, or simply drop in, and she takes care of him in about 15 minutes — for a busy guy with a crazy schedule, that’s important! Cari is professional, yet easy-​going and fun — if you want to chat, the conversation is great, if you want to relax, the neck massage is just right. Pricing is absolutely great — very competitive for color services, and cuts as well. The Hair Shop is the kind of place that is such a good find that you don’t want to spread the word too much, but such a GREAT place that you want to tell everyone to come check it out!

Cari is great. She does a great job she’s fun to talk to and the price is reasonable. Would highly recommend.

Just moved into Mission Village area and tried The Hair Shop for first time — great job. Owner was so pleasant and friendly — real neighborhood feel to her place. Highly recommended: good job and rates are very fair and reasonable.

Cari is outstanding! Ive been coming to see her for years and have recommended her to several friends who are also impressed and come back again and again. She is the only one I would trust with my hair, especially for color. You wont be dissapointed.

I have been going to The Hair Shop for about 9 years. I’ve actually been to the others in the neighborhood and prefer this shop. Kristy, mentioned in the reviews was quite awesome. Her father Mel still gets a couple days in at the shop, however, now Cari is the primary barber/​hair stylist. Cari is very charming as she works on the hair. I don’t have much on top, but she does take the extra time with the beard and mustache. I am always satisfied with the cut and the service I receive. They are decently priced, and although reservations aren’t required, if you call them you can set up an appointment (which helps with the in and out process).

I went there after having inconsistent results at the nearby Sports Cuts. I had no appointment but the wait wasn’t more than 10 minutes. It was a hot summer day but thankfully, the place had the A/​C running.
The ladies there were very friendly and were a blast. The final price for my quick (but well cut) haircut was $ 12 plus a tip. I’ll definitely be going back to this place.

I drive by at least three other barber shops advertising cheaper prices just to go to New Image, where I’ve been a loyal customer for 10 years. Mel and his daughter, Kristy, offer great hair cuts and friendly service for a very reasonable $ 12. (Not $ 20… Why did that other guy think it was $ 20??)
PROS
This is a great example of a neighborhood barbershop where they know you and they don’t even have to ask how you want your hair cut. Mel and Kristy are both very friendly and skilled, so I never make an appointment because I don’t mind which one of them cuts my hair. (From time to time, they’ll have a third barber named Carrie who is also outstanding.) At the end of the hair cut, they also give you a little shoulder massage which is a nice touch. And, I’m usually in and out in under 30 minutes, even if I have to wait a moment.
CONS
I’ll usually find a nitpick or two when I review a business, but I really can’t think of any here.
THE SKINNY
The perfect place to go if you live in the neighborhood and want to get a good haircut at a friendly barbershop.
