I’m the type of guy who can usually figure out how things work, but I’m likely going to break something in the process. So I called John David. He helped me with several issues in my new home: hooking up some appliances properly and diagnosing a refrigerator problem that needs more specialized expertise. He showed up on time, worked quickly and effectively and answered my questions patiently. I will definitely call him again the next time I’m tempted to break something.

A true professional… I hired John to re-​do very unprofessional work done by another handyman. The windows were improperly sized with open gaps, allowing cold and bugs to enter. After seeing the repairs, I was amazed how great the work was. He kept his word, set my expectations with a reasonable time frame and pricing. He is definitely my «go-​to» guy for any work. I recently had a dire situation with a leak in my bathroom. Turned to Unilocal for guidance, and MY LUCKY DAY — -I found John!!! He was able to fit me in at the end of the day. John is great. Friendly, professional and reasonable. Built a bed for me, then fixed a few things around the house that I’ve been meaning to take care of since I moved in. He has good ideas & suggestions. I’ll be calling him back when I’m ready to paint the guest room & get new screen doors. Highly recommend.

Amazing Service, I just needed the light Bulbs and Garbage disposal fixed in the Office. I called him and a few hours later he showed up to do the work. He even went blocks to get the light bulbs, that’s what I call great customer service! I would highly recommend The Handyman to anyone need work done at their home or office.

We contacted John for an outdoor construction job along with some other required repairs. He was extremely professional and courteous by first coming by and assessing the necessary work to be done, then scheduled the work accordingly and quickly. He and Frank were not only on time, but very diligent, hard-​working, efficient, and respected our home as if it were their own. I won’t hesitate to hire them again!

I have had a terrible time in the past finding a handyman, because they either do not call back, shown up late or never check e-​mail. John was great on all counts. When I called, he actually answered the phone. Made an appointment over email for the following day. He solved the problem at my rental unit and invoiced me via e-​mail.
I will definitely use him again!

John and his son did a decent job hanging my son’s bookshelf, 2 photo ledges, and 3 antique cast iron cast hooks. I just can’t recommend him after what I went through.
When I hired him, I was expecting he could also repair my garage lights and fill in some holes in my kitchen cabinetry. He told me the garage lights were too complicated an electrical problem for him to handle. He said the under-​cabinet holes were too difficult to access and that I should go to home depot, buy some steel wool balls and shove them in there myself with some expanding foam/​glue. So he did the easy hanging/​drilling work, but then I ended up scrambling to find more work for him to fill in the minimum hour of work for $ 75! Overall cost was $ 80 because he used some screws and anchors that he charged extra for. I also asked him to repair a ceiling in a bathroom where I had had a roof leak. He said it would take more time than the hour, and that his «partner» who specialized in that sort of work, was in Mexico and wouldn’t be back for a few weeks while he tried to get another work visa to come back across. I panicked when the shelving was done well before the hour was up, and found some ugly left over PVC remaining from a pool filter that I had him cut up and haul away. When he finished that, I asked him if he could do one more thing and he told me my hour was up because he still had to dump the PVC and hurried away. I went back inside, flustered and a bit upset and looked at the clock and realized, I had 10 minutes left plus cabinet locks I forgot to ask him to install. Granted, 10 minutes is not a lot of time, but I really feel I overpaid for the work he did. The main reason I asked him to come– the garage lights and the cabinet holes, which were the only things I couldn’t do myself — still remain un-​fixed and I’m out $ 80! And now that I think about it, there isn’t really a reason he couldn’t have just put the PVC pipes in my trash cans.
All in all, I had really been hoping for more based on all these 5 star reviews. But in this case, I honestly feel that I paid much much more than what the work was worth. I don’t understand the other reviewers who say that the price was excellent. Maybe their work was more complicated yet easier to fix?

I called to inquire and get a quote on a relatively small repair job and John told me he could not do it. He referred me to another person.
According to John’s Unilocal business profile: «I am experienced in all of the trades except concrete work and landscaping. Regardless of the size of your job, large or small, give me a call.»
The job I described does not involve any concrete work or landscaping. I have the impression that after describing my need it was considered a small job. At any rate, John’s profile is incorrect.
I am giving 2 stars (instead of 1 star) because I appreciate the referral, but then the reason we go to Unilocal is to get feedback and comments from actual clients and I would not know the track record of the handyman referred. It is frustrating that after reviewing the business profiles and comments in Unilocal,comparing different contractors, and then selecting which to call, then you will be denied on a ground that is contrary to the profile that they themselves created.

John repaired our roof when a pipe burst and it all crumbled away. He was friendly, hardworking, and did a great job. I recommend him highly and will absolutely hire him again!
