History

Established in 2014.

The King’s Head Tattoo is a professional studio, owned/​operated by Ronan Harvey and family. We are located in the heart of Pacific Beach, San Diego just blocks from the beach.

Our building was built in the 1930’s which comes together nicely with our appreciation for history, tradition and ritual. This makes for a relaxing, nostalgic vibe which can be an ideal setting to be tattooed in.

Business Owner

Ronan Harvey is an award winning, international tattoo artist with over 15 years of professional tattoo experience. He is well known for his Irish wit, artistic talent and clean work. Born a dual citizen of the US and Ireland has allowed Ronan to travel his whole life giving him a broad artistic perspective.

His portfolio is diverse. His expertise and technique allows him to have the ability to tattoo what ever style the client is interested in. He likes to do large, bold tattoos with interesting subject matter such as Asian influenced artwork; warriors, birds, flowers, creatures as well as American Traditional, large black&grey, and color. He also does a lot of coverup tattoo work.

A family man with a strong work ethic and excellent bedside manner you can count on him to deliver the best tattoo possible.

There’s only 1 person I’ll allow to tattoo me and that man is John Sabin aka Night Hawk. He’s done a sleeve for me and a cover up ¾ sleeve. I’ve recommended him to countless people including my fiends so he’s legit. He’s a living legend in the tattoo industry and will work with your ideas to create a custom art piece. Stalk him on Instagram to look at his work. You won’t be sorry.

The shop is lovely and clean and very welcoming. Ronan listened to what I wanted and sketched out my idea several times until I was very happy with it. I’m not gonna say it didn’t hurt at all but the pain was very minimal:). I recommend this shop if you are in the market for some new artwork

2nd time coming here as a walk-​in, and there’s nothing to complain about. Clean parlor, and prompt service. Marty walked through the entire procedure and was very accommodating. Most importantly, the design came out perfectly once he finished. Definitely coming back.

I went into King’s Head on my birthday without an appointment for my first tattoo. I was attended quickly but had to wait about an hour to be tattooed because it looked like there were only two people in the shop. The place is small but very clean. Right in the heart of PB.
I was tattooed by Marlon, who was a great guy and really easy to talk to. I looked through his work examples before going under the needle and the man has got so much talent! I showed him my idea for two very simple tattoos and he free handed them right on my skin. When I was satisfied, he inked me in about 45 minutes and I absolutely loved the finished product. Marlon was super sweet, had a great laugh, and did amazing work. Will definitely consider coming back for more!

Ronan’s work is awesome~!!I’m so happy to celebrate my first birthday in the States and got my first tattoo from San Diego!! As a traveller I’ve no idea why I pick Ronan’s shop even after I went there on Dec 31st they were closed then I went back on 2nd and got my perfect tattoo!! Just something like the 6th sense I know this guy will understand exactly what I want!! Thanks Ronan~!!Hope will meet again in the future~!!BTW the shop is in an amazing clean situation and made me feel relaxed when I walked in with a little bit nervous mood. I’m lucky and if I will add another tattoo I’ll go back to SD immediately!

My review is about John Sabin. His gorgeous sapphire blue eyes are quite mesmorizing… but it’s his ability to really ‘get’ my idea and implement it strikingly is want to compliment. I got this sweet grayscale owl tattoo from him, that is constantly complimented. I’m not out for the compliments, but damn it, The Skin Wizard, made magic on my arm, and now everyone always wants to talk about it.
John’s winning personality paired with his artistic skills make him my favorite tattoo artist.

By far the best tattoo parlor I have been to and thats why I keep coming back. The customer service is top notch and the work done here is amazing. I give Ronan and idea and I am thoroughly impressed with the designs he comes up with. The work done is always original and drawn by him. As long as I am in the area I will not go to another shop. The shop is always clean and has a great vibe to make it comfortable during the tattoo sessions. I have recommended Ronan to a lot of people and will continue to do so.

Okay where can I start… hmm.
OK let me begin by how professional the customer service was and follow by saying how impressed I was with the cleanliness of the shop and equipment. I am from Memphis TN so I had no idea what to expect from an out of town tattoo shop. But upon completion of my tattoo I was very and I mean VERY SATISFIED with my tattoo Johnny came up with exactly what I wanted for a saweeeett and I mean sweet shoulder piece for my day of the dead sleeve… I left my number he asked me what I liked and the following day I was sent a sketch of what he came up with and being very impressed with it I now have an awesome new addition inked in my skin that I will have forever I am definitely returning and already have another tattoo lined up with Johnny!!!

BEST SHOP HANDS DOWN!
If you have been wanting a tattoo and can not find the right place, you need to stop by. I have been in San Diego for 3 years now, been to 5 tattoo parlors, and the minute I walked into «THE KINGS HEAD» I was ready to get started. If you have time to swing by the shop make sure you do (just bring money).

Best experience! Not only is the shop set up beautifully, but Ronan’s customer service is top! He was able to accommodate me as well as my cousin and my boyfriend and helped us decide on placement and styling of our tattoos. I got my first tattoo done by Ronan and I’m definitely coming back for more. I am madly in love with the tattoo I got and I know my boyfriend has been showing his off a lot too!

I love this place. Very roomy warm and roomy. It’s easy to get to plenty of on street parking. Ronan does great work been working with him for the last few months on a cover up. The sleeve is coming along very well. Will post pics. I will be going to this shop for all my work. Ask for Ronan and he will make sure you get well taken care of.
My tattoo has received countless compliments and it’s not even done yet. I cant wait until it’s done. So far the line work is amazing and the cover up is going well.

Absolutely amazing. Ronan is awesome! I got a tattoo on my foot and it barely hurt and it healed perfectly. I only want my tattoos done here because I know they will be exactly what I want and will age beautifully. His sketches are amazing, his shading technique is a true talent, he clearly was meant to be a fine artist of skin. I am so glad he has his own shop, I would follow him anywhere. I have friends who come from other states just so he does their tattoo.
