The Lofts at 655 Sixth Apartments

The apartment itself is great, and the windows do a lot to keep the noise out. The appliances are fine, and include a small Bosch washer and dryer. I run the A/​C all the time though since I don’t want cigarette smoke wafting into my apartment (that happens outside of downtown too unfortunately). Katie in the leasing office is always incredibly responsive and actively works to fix items that are brought to her attention. She has made staying here convincing since as Holly E. mentions below the gym is a bit rundown and patio furniture is in disrepair. They should replace the cabanas with grilles so one can BBQ! The obvious perk is location, but downside would be the increased rent rates becoming comparable to Vantage Point and their amenities.

I needed to find place to move to quickly after my lease ended but I needed a location downtown near school, as well as a short term lease. Not only did Lofts @ 655 meet my location and duration requirements, but they were also extremely accommodating for my short notice move-​in. Katie is amazing in the leasing office and she always finds time to address any concerns/​issues, as well as make living within Lofts @ 655 just a comfortable experience overall. The building is very pet friendly and Katie always was there to greet me and my dog will a hello/​goodbye as well as treat for the little guy.

Moved out end of Jan. OK location, cheap (plastic stainless steel), No real amenities for the price. Staff that have difficulty remembering your name, after you pick packages up weekly (I know it’s hard), Running out of parking last summer (I pay for a space but don’t get one) and a $ 300 increase in a year a half was enough to look elsewhere. So glad I did, much better place, more amenities, awesome views, for the price this place wanted to charge. Look all over, the buildings a pig with lipstick, looks good on the surface, but still a… The fact that it took months to respond should speak for itself… I hope Katie is gone… useless

I have lived at 655 lofts for 2 years and I love it here! I read some of the reviews but I felt that I should add my own. For starters, when you move to any place downtown, you move there to be close to the action and excitement of living DOWNTOWN! If your concern is quiet and tranquility then living ANYWHERE downtown is not for you. However, if you are like me and you crave being within footsteps of every event, every new club opening, beautiful bars, delicious restaurants, and vibrant people who enjoy having fun then there is no better place to live than 655 Lofts.

Moved in a few months ago. Awesome location, my dog loves it here. Ask for Katie She’s a good one.

For the past week I have been taking care of my friends pet at this complex while they are out of town. I had been here before but coming back daily really let me see the beauty of this location and the property. The staff at this place is amazing. I needed to pick up a package from the office and was greeted with a friendly smile and warm welcome. I believe she was the assistant manager. She made me feel really at home by offering me a cup of coffee or a bottle water. The apartments here are designed well and the grounds are also very nice. The location itself is unreal. A close walk to Petco Park and the convention center is awesome. The amount of great restaurants in the surrounding blocks makes me a bit jealous. The parking for guests isn’t ideal but it is downtown San Diego. My friend also has nothing but great things to say about his move to this property.

The apartments are beautiful with high ceilings, great windows, and beautiful features. The staff is kind and friendly, as are the other tenants. The apartment is conveniently located if you work downtown.
My biggest disappointment however are the apartment amenities. The gym is barely functioning. There are only three weights, the treadmill is barely functioning, and the equipment is dated. The computer lab at glance seems great until you realize there are no keyboards or monitors, therefore no working computers. Last the outdoor area is sad. The furniture is so dirty and disorganized. You can’t sit in any cabana for fear of water and dirty pouring on you. At first I just thought it would take a moment to fix the amenities but it has been this way for three months.
The apartments are beautiful but I feel if you pay these prices, the amenities should also reflect the beauty of the apartments. It’s a little disappointing

I moved here back in August and so far I love it!
Pros:
— The staff is super friendly and always helpful!
— Perfect location if you want to be downtown.
— Parking is not assigned but I have never had a problem finding a spot. I saw some comments saying the garage gets full but I have literally never seen that happen.
— The elevators are really fast (my last apartment had the worst elevators ever).
— Maintenance is very responsive! Any issues I’ve had are fixed within a few hours.
— Some people have complained about noise but my apartment is really quiet (I face the courtyard).
Cons:
— Fitness center needs to be updated (some of the free weights are missing)
— I wish there were bbq’s in common area like my last apartment
Overall, I recommend this place to anyone who wants to live downtown. I plan on being here for at least for another year!

As others have said, the walls separating the units are nothing more than 2x4s with two sheets of drywall. I can hear both neighbors’ tv’s and stereos. Also, parties are common here on weekends and security or the office management will do nothing to stop them.

I live here and it has been quite. I also always have parking. I read these Unilocal comments before moving in and was surprised at how quite the building is. The parking is plenty. They warn you before you move in that the gas lamp is not quite. The point of living downtown is the lively atmosphere. If you like quite move up north. The building is not poorly constructed either.

Pros:

Very modern building with a great design and some cool floor plans. I like the lights they put up in the hallway of my studio.
Parking has always been available and safe.
Great views of downtown if you face 6^th ave.
I’ve never once heard my neighbor’s music or tv, and i’ve never had a complain about my noise either.
Great place to have your friends come over before going out to a few bars.
I think they are finally going to start washing the windows on a regular basis, other than that the facilities are always clean.
Decent Washer/​Dryer unit in every apt.
Maintenance guy is always timely and fixes problems within 24 hours.
Friendly neighbors/​tenants and we have quite a few social events.
The theater room and computer room seem nice, but i seldom use them. The workout room has enough equipment for a good workout while watching some TV and is hardly ever crowded.
Cons:
The weird artwork.
The outside noise levels at night. poor lighting in bathroom.
Appliances could be a bit better for price paid, but I’ve never had a problem with them.
Some of the studios have tiny, tiny cabinets so be sure to accommodate them with additional storage of your own.
AC/​Heat unit can be quite noisy, and the thermostat might be in a bad location because I’m normally hot/​cold when it is running, and I’m constantly adjusting the setting.
I have no idea where all the dust comes from in this place — I read that one reviewer said it was the dryer, but I’m not sure if that makes sense.
Overall, the lofts at 655 are a great place to live if you have the cash to spend. I would recommend that anyone looking to lease an apt in downtown give this place a try.

I agree with the last reviewer but 3 stars is the most I can give it. The look of the place and location are great (especially location!). However the prices are very high for what you get. The office staff is fantastic, very helpful and very quick to help. I had an unfortunate accidental bait and switch incident when moving in so I didn’t get the exact unit I want but it wasn’t intentional and otherwise they are awesome, probably the best so far. The maintenance guy is also excellent.
First week I lived here I came home on a Monday around 11pm and there wasn’t one single place to park in the garage. Hasn’t happened again but it’s been close. The build quality is CHEAP, the walls are the worst of any place (newer buildings) I’ve been in downtown. My place is constantly filled with my neighbor’s music, sadly, he isn’t playing it at unreasonable levels at all. I can hear my neighbors alarm, them putting dishes away, clearly the they cut serious corners to save a buck here.
I love the style of the building, and the location is absolutely perfect. I live on the backside of the building, faces 7^th, surprisingly little noise from outside. It is great being in the center of everything, and for this it gets graded on a curve. If it were further out I’d go as low as 2.5 stars.

I was one of the first tenants to live in this building and I was there from Fall 2007 to early 2010.
The other two reviews by Stephanie and Nick are very helpful, but I wanted to share my experiences too.
It’s all about location! You can find cheaper, larger, and nicer rental properties around San Diego, but to be right in the Gaslamp quarter is great. My Cons list is rather lengthy, but this is generally a great place to live.
Pros:
— Building management was almost always very helpful. Over the course of 2 ½ years living there, I only had a couple of slightly frustrating encounters with the office staff.
— New building, fast maintenance resolution, underground parking, on-​site gym, private «movie theater» room.
— Floor plans were pretty good.
— Central AC/​heating.
Cons:
— The walls are incredibly thin. I was on the top floor and didn’t have to deal with people above me, but one of my neighbors drove me crazy. This guy had a dog that stayed at home all day while he was at work. And, what would this dog do? Bark, nonstop, all day and even when his owner came home. There were definitely only 2 layers of dry wall between our units and I could hear every conversation and every dog bark.
— Looks nice, but cheaply made (e.g. plastic appliances that look like stainless steel).
— The in-​unit washer/​dryers are horrible. The washers did a decent job, but the dryer would take over an hour to dry even the smallest load.
— For the last 6 months or so that I lived there, the parking garage was always full or over-​parked. I was forced to make my own parking spot or make sure I didn’t leave the garage after 9pm (or face not having anywhere to park when I returned). Considering you pay $ 125/​month for parking, I would expect better.
— The «Computer Lab» is a joke. It never works, the computers are so full of viruses and spam that it’s not even worth the risk. And the printer/​fax never worked either.
In the end, I got tired of my neighbor and paying the premium for a rather small (700 sq. ft) unit. I now live a few blocks (still within walking distance) from downtown and have a 1,100 sq. ft. unit for 25% less than the Lofts @ 655.

Overall, I love the aesthetics. The interior space is modern, open, light and clean. I met a few nice people but overall the place does have a strange vibe where neighbors aren’t neighborly.
There are a few things…
Forget the computer lab, it is a joke. It has never worked. Same for the NEVER FUNCTIONING THEATRE!
There is one huge problem – the closet in the one bedroom does not have a light! And it is very high and deep but not very long. I’ve been battling this place for almost a whole year and I never found a solution – I tried Ikea solutions TO NO AVAIL but I never found a solution.
The other thing is that there is always dust/​lint floating around from the poor dryer ventilation. It doesn’t sound like it could be such a problem, but I have to sweep the floors daily and sometimes more if I have guests over. And, you cannot have a vaccum to suck up the lint because there are no CLOSET spaces! Only the one in the bedroom which is small and dark.
Another problem is that there are mosquitos entering our loft all the time this summer and it hasn’t been resolved.
Another thing is that they don’t clean the beautiful floor to ceiling windows we have (which I imagine should be done at least once every 6 months). You are on your own to do this and they don’t provide closet space for a squeegee!

After living here a full year, I agree that this place is a solid 4.5 stars. It has generally been an extremely positive experience living here, but there are a couple of things that detract from living here, which I find quite annoying.
As for the positive:
* This is generally a very new building, which made it quite appealing to live in. The owner, OliverMcMillan is also a great name in development and they normally design places with a great amount of detail and taste. I was attracted to the simplicity and style of this place. The lobby is beautiful and simple, as is the rest of the building.
* The LOCATION cannot be beat. You are steps away from everything! At the corner of Buca, The Borders and the movie theater! But, you are not in the heart of the Gaslamp so it’s also a bit quieter which is a good thing
* The building is quiet, with the exception of my neighbors sometimes. The windows also come with double pane sound-​proof glass keeps it quiet up here
* The elevators are VERY FAST! This is enormously important, as we come and go all the time. There’s nothing more annoying than having to be somewhere and having to wait for a slow elevator.
* EXCELLENT maintenance service. They are very prompt and always make sure your problem is fixed!!!
* The loft designs are all open-​concept. Each loft is different and allows for maximum creativity. Very beautiful lofts! You can paint the walls too as you wish.
* Our loft has a lot of hidden space efficiency which is nice
* Awesome views of the city!
*The parking garage is spacious and well lit
* The leasing office bakes DELICIOUS cookies everyday
* And of course the leasing staff are very helpful and nice
Although these are all the things that I love about this place, there are some things that kinda get on my nerves frequently:
* The bathroom lighting is very bad. Not in the sense that it’s not bright enough, but in the sense that it makes your complexion and skin look horrible. The light is not exactly evenly dispersed.
* There’s a beautiful computer center with 6 computers, but I think only 2 have ever worked! PLUS, the printer is always out of ink. I don’t think anyone ever uses it anymore because of this. Such an inconvenience at times.
* They recently re-​painted the parking garage with a bunch of circus themed colors.
*There are like no social functions here. When we first moved in, there were some, but there’s nothing that goes on.
* For the most part, people don’t really say hi to you here which is pretty rude but I’m from the South so perhaps it’s just a cultural distinction. I’ve actually given it quite a bit of thought and I think it’s a reflection of city life in general… but I digress… More often than not, the other person next to me in the elevator will not say hi or even acknowledge my presence. That shall I guess be interpreted however you wish.
Basically, this place is beautiful and is in the heart of everything. There are some annoying things, but the leasing staff are great, the location is AMAZING, and the service is top scale. Overall, this place is pretty awesome.
(FYI: Parking is an extra $ 150 a month per car which is standard I think. We were lucky that they waived parking for 1 car for an entire year for us but this may not work anymore as the demand for parking is so strong. It’s worth a shot to negotiate some sort of deal at least)

I have lived at The Lofts @ 655 for 4 years now. I would say that my experience has relatively «good.» I rent a studio loft that is almost like a 1 bdrm with a half-​wall divider, 688 sq. ft with a big balcony facing East. Garaged parking is extra so make sure you bring your negotiating skills to get it thrown into the deal. I had to sign a 14 month lease to get a good deal, but it was worth it overall.
Lets start with the Good:
—The building has 7 floors and 3 parking levels. You can move throughout using the building centrally-​located elevators (2). These elevators are QUICK. I’ve never had to wait more than a minute for the elevator to get me, no matter where I am in the building. I’ve been to some other buildings in Gaslamp, and the one or two OLD elevators can take forever, but not here. Slow elevators can waste hours of your life and kill you when you’re running late.
—The building is relatively new. The floors are hardwood, nice cabinets and appliances. Bathroom is nice, stackable washer/​dryer too. Closet has a ton of space. The building and units have a cool, modern, industrial look to them.
The bad:
—Thin walls. If you’re lucky, one of your shared walls will be concrete, or if your unit is like mine you’ll have drywall on either side. If a neighbor has his TV against the wall where you like to do work or sleep, it can be a little annoying. This is to be expected when you live in an apartment building to a degree. When it gets AWFUL is when you have crabby neighbors that go to bed early and complain every time they hear your TV on or hear you laughing or talking, etc. The building has a «quiet time» between 10pm and 7am. If you’re a student like me or work late, you don’t really get home and in front of the TV until 9 or 10pm, and you might get a snooty call from the leasing office telling you that someone complained. This is Gaslamp people! Don’t move here if you need ultra quiet after 10pm!
—Weird Tenants. I have yet to meet any cool people in this building besides some of the staff. My next door neighbors complain every time I turn my TV on or have anyone over for socializing after 10pm. Most people will look down or away when you try to say hi, overall a very anti-​social building despite the staff’s efforts of scheduling «social events».
Staff: Annanais has been the building’s manager for years and is extremely helpful and personable. If you’re thinking about coming by– make sure you talk to him!
Variables: Underground parking. On bar nights, you’ll suddenly notice that even though you are paying for a spot, its tough to find one. This is because a lot of people either sneak into the garage when the door opens, or in most cases the tenants sneak their friends in bc of the parking horrors of downtown. Normally I wouldn’t care, but sometimes when I come home late its tough to find parking and one time the garage was completely full, and the management does not tow very often (hence why the problem continues).
Bottom Line: I love my unit, got a great deal, and will most likely renew my lease unless they change the rate. Moody or rude neighbors are in every building, and the ones here do not outweigh the positives of living here.

I moved into the Lofts last year and I am very happy! When I first moved in we had a neighbor situation and the leasing office took control of the situation and the outcome was great! They really care about you and have resident functions often. The office staff is really sweet and can help you with almost anything. The walls are thinner than I am used too but when you choose to live downtown you have to take the good and the bad. Most everyone in the bldg is respectful of noise. The apartments are in great condition. The A/​C is a little loud when its on, but who needs A/​C? I rarely use it. I have a unit with a balcony and they are a great size and adds some extra square feet which is nice. Parking is always ample. Over all, I am very happy living here!
