I moved here from Las Vegas and thought I would have a hard time finding the right person to cut my hair but Hector the owner hooked me up! And he always takes me without an appointment since I have a crazy schedule all the time. He is quick, and always cuts my hair exactly the way I want and the shop is beautiful! Its totally remodeled. Great find!

Called this place to ask how much a head shave is and the guy starts yelling at me! WEDON’T DOTHAT! WEDON’T DOTHAT! WEDON’T DOTHAT! Three times he yelled at me before I could even ask if they could use clippers. LOSER!

My husband(who doesn’t Unilocal) asked me to give The Mane Man a 5 star review on his behalf. He started going there out of convenience when we lived in PB, but he still goes there after we moved from PB because of 5 reasons: 1. He gets a good haircut there, that grows out well. 2. The barber is so fast, sometimes he is in & out in less than 15 minutes. 3. There are sports playing there. 4. Good average price($ 18). 5. The barber is friendly — he talks enough to be nice, but not too much so it feels forced.

Lefty’s was busy, so I Unilocal’ed The Mane Man a few blocks down Garnet. I wish I had read the reviews fully. Kind of disappointed with the experience. Kind of a run down place. Looks clean enough I guess, but it looks like they(??) have only one(of 5) chairs in use, which to me is a bad sign. Also seemed to be doubling as furniture storage. I hopped in the chair and asked for short on the sides/back and a trim on top. Nothing too exciting. He asks how short and I suggest a #3 or finger length… which is what I ask at my regular barber. He tells me that that would be too short. He then asks how much off the top and I tell him ½−1″ and he says that it would be too long. He then suggests a «medium» and I shrug and settle in for a haircut. When he’s done, sure enough, too long on the sides/back and too short on the top. WTF… why does he argue with someone about how they like their hair??? I let him try and fix the length on what he can and give up. The shocker(and not in a good way)…$ 20. Again WTF??? He seems really nice and from what I saw, he has a regular client base of over-60 guys coming through, but $ 20 for a crappy haircut that I didn’t ask for? Again WTF!!! Bottom line… if you are in a hurry and HAVE to get some hairs cut like your life depended on it right then and there, I’d give it a shot. Otherwise, make an appointment somewhere else.

Hector, the owner/barber, is a very nice guy. He does a great job, does it for a reasonable price, and does it with just the right amount of barber banter you expect. This place isn’t fancy, you aren’t going to be served chi tea and snacks while you wait. You will find tons of car and sports magazines to look through while you wait. Appointments are accepted, but walk-ins seem easier. He has a very steady regular clientele, so you might have to listen to chitter-chatter about some ongoing discussion of which you didn’t hear the last 11 installments. Parking is available right in front, but not always. Park around the corner, not in the Staples, as you will get a ticket and maybe towed.

When my old barber, Phillip, closed on Garnet, he referred me to his good friend at the Mane Man. This guy cuts my hair faster and better than anyone and I always tip him heavily. He’s worth every penny and more! He’s just off Garnet and Ingraham, so for best parking go over one block north of Garnet and park next to the school:
