The most authentic Thai food in San Diego I would say! Been to Thailand several times and always was a bit disappointed with the other Thai places around town. This one is as good as sitting in a restaurant in Phuket or Bangkok. Highly recommend!

DECEPTIVE! DECEPTIVE! DECEPTIVE! We were previous fans of Sab E Lee when it was in this location. The new restaurant here is dubbed«Thai Papaya by Sab E Lee» so we thought it was just a rebranding of what was already our favorite Thai place in San Diego. We went in to find an extremely narrow menu — none of the old classics we used to order. Again, trusting that this was somehow connected to the Sab E Lee we used to know and love, we decided to try some dishes, ordering a Som Tam, a pork soup, the Pork Larb, and the sticky rice. The Som Tam was inedible. Not only did it have 3 times too much fish sauce, the fish tasted like it had sat on the docks for a week in the sweltering sun covered in flies. We told them we did not like it, we did not eat it, but they charged us for it anyway. The Larb was tasteless(the only detectible flavor was cilantro) and so full of salt I had to drink water for hours afterwards to get my body back into equilibrium just from eating a few bites(out of desperation since everything else was so colossally bad). The sticky rice was mushy and tasted somewhat soured. The pork soup was full of the poorest quality cuts of meat. It’s only saving grace was a very lemon-forward broth which was the only thing I ate. In short, a truly awful meal. They told us it was«authentic Thai food» but we have been all over Thailand and Laos and I can tell you from experience that is is just AUTHENTICALLYAWFUL. We discovered on our way home from this epic-ly bad meal that Sab E Lee has moved. We felt so cheated by Sab E Lee, that we stopped the car at their new location and went in to tell them how incredibly bad the meal was at the establishment they continue to put their name on. The woman at the counter just shrugged. Nothing like the old days when you could chat with the owners and they bent over backwards to share their cuisine and make you happy. WEWILLNEVERAGAINEATATANYRESTAURANTOWNEDBY Sab E Lee. After being cheated at their original location, we are not willing to take the risk that their new locations’ food might somehow be good. We urge you to give it a miss — there are many better alternatives right down the road.
