Top Hat Catering

My wife and I used top hat catering a few days ago for our wedding reception and am happy to say they exceeded expectations! The two things that caught my eye when I was looking for a caterer was the food and pricing… compared to what I researched it was fairly priced and they were able to accommodate our intimate reception of about 60 guests. As for the food, their choices and descriptions were pretty mouth watering and I’ve read other reviews and heard the food was as good as it sounded, so hey, why not right? My first conversation on the phone with Nicholas was very pleasant and I didn’t feel like I was being pressured into using his service or ordering anything I didn’t need. Nicholas was there throughout the whole process whenever I needed him for questions and not once did I feel like I was annoying him (i did call a few times). Basically, he’s an all around great guy and that just made the whole experience much more easier for me (I was our own wedding planner so I was quite stressed). On to the food. The hors d oeuvres I ordered were pot stickers, Reuben Pastry Squares, devilicious eggs, and salami cornucopias. None of them disappointed and all my guests loved them! Honorable mention: Reuben Pastry Squares. First of all, this choice was actually recommended by Nicholas and… OMG…these things are ridiculously delicious! If there was a place that sold giant sized versions of these things I would probably eat there for lunch every day… there really that good and I highly recommend them. For dinner we had prime rib which was everything I would expect and more from this cut of meat. The meat was tender (I like mine medium rare), tasty, and unbelievably juicy. Like, mouth watering juicy. Take what you erik from this comparison, but it’s way better than the prime rib you’d order at Barona or Sycuan casino… I mean, you would hope so, right? it does not disappoint! My friend actually had both the salmon and the prime rib because he shared with another friend. When I saw him the next day I asked him how the wedding was. He said, exact words: «First off, this is the first wedding I’ve been to where the food was actually GOOD!» my other friend agreed right away. It would be worth noting that these two good friends are picky eaters and wouldn’t hesitate to tell me if I made a bad choice in food anywhere we go. I had three servers for the reception and they all carried a professional and approachable demeanor with genuine smiles. The servers were even tact enough to make sure the bride was fed by strategically maneuvering their way around the hungry hoards of guests and covering her hor d oeuvres so nobody would see them! All in all, it was an amazing experience and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody who asks me if I know of a caterer worth hiring. Thank you guys again!!!

I recently attended a dinner party with a close friend for 26 catered by Top Hat. Afterwards, I talked with the on-​site event planner (from an independent company) about my experience: The passed pre-​dinner snacks were pathetic, poorly presented and sparce. I was told by the ANCIENT server that one in particular was dairy-​free only to find out later it contained cheese. The sit-​down dinner was served by the same ancient SLOW server. It took nearly 25 minutes for the all of the guests to be served while the rest of the guests waited. Needless to say dinners were stone cold by the time everyone started eating. Food was so-​so. When the same OLD server brought out dessert, he forgot the forks and then didn’t remember to serve coffee until someone asked. What a fiasco! Do Not Use This Caterer! PS — the caterer was chosen by the host and wasn’t recommended by the event planner.

I used Top Hat catering for my wedding & not only is the staff great, the prices are very affordable the food is delicious! We picked one of the buffet menus (which Im normally skeptical of buffet because of the large servings not being at good standard, getting cold or overcooked) & everything was so fresh, tender and flavorful! I don’t think we had any leftovers because everyone was going for seconds. Nicholas was such a big help and really helped my DIY wedding budget! I would highly recommend them for any large event!

They will be catering our wedding next December! We met with them last weekend and they are VERY nice people with amazing food! That citrus chicken is phenomenal and the herb potatoes are oh so delicious!!! Nick made us feel very comfortable and was very flexible as he is aware they should be as a top catering company. Thank you guys for the great experience and we can’t wait for your cooking and services in December!

I am surprised they don’t have more reviews as well. Their food is excellent. I have
eaten their food at events they were the caterer and it is delicious. The owner comes into my shop all the time and he is a super nice guy and works very hard to make his business as perfect as he can. I highly recommend this caterer for any occasion and weddings!

Though their website says party size «2 to 10,000», they told me our head count was too small. I wanted to contract for 177 people, in 3 seatings: 70 + 70 + 37. Can’t speak to their food because they blew me off.

We chose Top Hat catering for our wedding very last minute (everything got moved up 5 months due to my husband’s military training schedule changing) and Nicholas was amazingly helpful and supportive during the whole process. My mom and I met with him to discuss menu options and an hour and a half later we’d decided on a menu, beverages, and table linens. The next day we received a quote in the mail outlining everything we’d discussed the previous day. They were very accommodating with our requests to add on items like my grandmother’s punch recipe and flavored creamers for the coffee.
I love that all of their food is made from scratch (even the broth and stock!) and you can definitely taste the difference between their food and typical banquet style food. We had approximately 60 guests so we chose 2 entrees: tuscan chicken and prime rib and 4 hors d’ouevres: thai moneybags (steamed veggies in an edible wrapper), stuffed mushrooms, brie toasts, and bacon & cheese quichettes. We got tons of compliments on the food and how attentive the wait staff was. Our meal was buffet but there was staff walking around refilling drinks and removing used plates. They poured our Martinelli’s and cut our wedding cake for no additional charges, which is practically unheard of for most caterers.
I was informed that they were a little late the afternoon of my wedding, but they still managed to serve the hors d’ouevres, meal, and set everything up before our guests arrived.
Overall working with Top Hat Catering was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend them to anyone looking to cater a party.
