Established in 2005.

Tried-​N-​True Home Theater and Security was formed under this name in 2005 in San Diego, but it’s parent companies CDT and Custom Theatre and Sound have been serving SoCal for over 20 years before that.

Meet the Business Owner

Ian C.

Business Owner

Ian has been in the Audio/​Video Industry for over 10 years but comes from a sales and customer service background. He’s held a wide range of positions including years of fine dining food service, a restaurant balloon artist, and Interior Designer.

Ian has always had a talent with problem solving and a passion for electronics. He used to spend hours feeding his curiosity, disassembling and reassembling anything he could get his hand on.

The first formal training came through a family friend and owner of a Home Theater Company. Through this experience of trial and error, Ian earned extremely valuable hands on experience. Deciding to relocate, he found a position with a rising Security Company. Learning the in’s and out’s of that industry, a San Diego A/​V Company took interest and he quickly worked his way up to partner in the company. Hundreds of amazing projects later, a business partner moved, the other pursued politics, providing Ian an opportunity to start Tried-​N-​True.

I highly recommend NOT using Ian from Tried and true, we had him install our home system. The work was done in a timely fashion, but we have had issues with the speakers and how they are supposed to work ever since being installed. My wife and I have made over 15 attempts for him to come out and fix the issues with no response at all from him. We spend quite a bit of money with him and his company and his warranty claims «one year labor Warranty» which if you never get a response means absolutely nothing, we will now have to him another company to fix the issues. If anyone is like me and knows nothing of AV I suggest you go with a company that is willing to uphold the labor part of their warranty as that is the most important part to me.

Self contracting and overseeing the building of our home led us to many contractors. As we finished each phase, we would research and ask for recommendations for the next step. Finding Ian Cote definitely was a bonus. After meeting with him, he made sure that he thoroughly understood our goals and wired our home for a whole house sound system, home theater as well as a security system. Because of his expertise in these fields we are able to phase in each system as we are ready. We highly recommend Ian if you are just starting a project, if you are upgrading or if you need someone who can plan for future needs.

I was pretty disappointed. Custom Theater and Sound went out of business and referred Ian to us. I called him to help us with an Alarm installation issue and to possibly redo the work of CT & S. He said he would be out the next week and would call the day before to confirm. No call the next week, I left 2 messages and emailed him but no response. We decided to go with another company K & R Network Solutions. Great work and fair price.

I heard about Ian on the radio because he used to do all of the personal work for a local radio DJ at his house. That alone was enough for me to give him a try. Ian is a true professional. He took a lot of equipment that I already had, and integrated it into an awesome surround sound system in my house, as well as integrating it with outdoor speakers for my backyard. He could have said that the old equipment wouldn’t work, and charged me for new equipment, but he didnt. He is as honest as they come. After that, I had him come back about a year later to install an 8 camera home security system for me, which is AWESOME. Again, he could have sold me super expensive equipment, but he worked with me, within my budget, to make it happen. It is a beautiful installation that could have cost twice the price that he did it for, and it is perfect. Ian can do anything you need in your home when it comes to Audio/​Video, and it is perfectly customized to you. He will come out and give you a free estimate. trust me, you wont be disappointed.

Ian and his team were very fast, skilled, and clean. They installed a surround sound system and mounted my tv in one day, without leaving anything to have to fix or clean. They had the everything on hand to get the job done. I couldn’t be more pleased.

If you are like me, and know a little about AV hardware but not enough to select the best product for your needs and install it all then you are going to need an expert. Tried-​N-​True did an amazing job on my house, they installed a 5.1 surround system and it sounds fantastic. Ian Cote is really a perfectionist and a professional. Expect an honest opinion and a solution that fits your needs. I will definitely contract him again for upgrades and repair.
