Not the first, but by far the best.
Video Eye has been a normal renting spot ever since they opened their doors. The variety of shows and movies is perfect and thankfully they made the transfer to DVD once VHS was dying out, (yes, there are still Japanese rental stores that only have VHS).
The store is organized well by category and even broken down by group. For example they have VARIETY which has a SMAP section where all the SMAP shows are, such as SMAP x SMAP PUSMA, etc.
The movies are up to date and their TV show material is usually on the shelves 3 – 5 days after it’s air date in Japan.
Video Eye is by far the best Japanese TV show and movie rental store in San Diego.
