Vintage Sol

This place rocks! So unique. Me and my husband celebrated our 1 yr anniversary here and loved it! The place has everything you need even though it’s a small space. It’s very artsy and eclectic. Always something interesting to look at. You have your own courtyard where Paisley, our host, would serve us breakfast. The breakfasts are amazing and look like artwork and so fulfilling that each day we didn’t eat again until dinner time. We definitely want to go back if we have the opportunity. Highly recommend this place!

Wow. Magic. Love. Vintage Sol is truly the most special little slice of heaven in the very up and coming North Park section of San Diego, brought to you by the creative, friendly, efficient, never hovering, but always happy to chat, and direct you where you want to go (she also has a large, amazing binder of all there is to do in the area and beyond, in the unit), and let me say, a woman who could make Martha Stewart feel inadequate about her own cooking, Paisley!
I loved the décor so so much. Beauty and whimsy in perfect combination. The kitchen and room were stocked with fabulous little goodies to snack on, the bed was very comfortable (put your luggage under there too!), the bathroom is petite, yet decorated so delightfully it is never an issue, and met all out needs, even for my 6’3″ husband, and let me note-​the whole place was very clean. Not only that, the gorgeous courtyard is yours to chill, eat, and relax in, and has the company of some very delightful finches. I really can’t, and almost don’t want to (as it might be booked when I want it) extol all the pure charm of this place. Wait, let me mention, fresh flowers everywhere, in the bathroom, on the sweet table in the bedroom, hanging over the table in the courtyard. Paisley is truly a maker of beauty…
We went to San Diego to visit a friend, and now I just want to go back to visit Vinatge Sol and relax, eat the best breakfasts I have ever had in all my many years of bed and breakfasting or anywhere, and have my senses delighted! Thank you Paisley, you rock, cook, and roll, with so much Sol!
P. S. This is a single standing place with an attached courtyard. Not a true bed and breakfast inn, as it is ALL yours, and you’ll be so glad it is! The price is very very reasonable, and yes I told Paisly so. Cause she, and Vinatge Sol are worth soooooo nuch more.

My boyfriend and I stayed here during comic con and it was an oasis to find this on the internet when all the other hotels were ready to double or triple their room prices.
This was my very first B&B experience. Paisley has thought of everything guests could need ahead of time. The fridge and the little kitchen was stocked, and we never had to run to the store to get anything.
If you’re like me and you’re used to ‘continental breakfast’ at motels, then a REAL breakfast that’s better than most restaurants could offer, is possibly the best part of the stay.

Perfect getaway! This review is almost a year late, and I feel bad about it because it was probably my favorite place I’ve found on Unilocal!The woman who runs it, Paisley, was wonderful. She helped us out with tips and advice on where to go and what to do in San Diego, even though it was raining when we were there in March for a quick mini-​honeymoon.
The décor is just amazing. The couple who own the little casita beside their own house are landscapers, I believe, and the place is overrun (in a good way) with mismatched furniture and succulents and odds and ends, and the room is the same way. They also had it stocked with DVDs, toiletries, books, extra blankets, and a little guide to restaurants and things to do. Love. The kitchen had juice and water and sodas and a little coffee maker and utensils. It was like a furnished studio apartment, a small cozy one.
We also were served breakfast, which was amazing both days, but the Eggs Benedict was amazing. We ate in the little courtyard in front of our casita and the sunlight streamed through all prettily. So great.
We would definitely come back!

Fiancé and I stayed here for 3 nights in April. It was perfect for our tastes. Not necessarilymformeverybody but if you like unique and fun and private this might be the ideal place for you. I’ll try to explain more…
So there is only one «room» here so you are the only guests. It is classically «cozy,» which is to say small but charming. Very comfy and well appointed bed. The room was small but incredibly optimized for the amount of space. Everything was nice and new and well taken care of just in minimal space. So bathroom was super small but had nice toiletries for you and electric candle lights etc. but don’t come looking for a big marble bath. Again if you want hotel type you shouldn’t be here. But there is so much this place has that hotels do not. There is so much art and décor and uniqueness everywhere. Anyway back to the room, there is also a great kitchenette stocked with lots of gourmet coffee and coffee grinder/​maker. Nice little touches like popcorn and things. And then you also get this private courtyard/​patio with a BBQ and a couple tables etc to sit and/​or eat at. Your hostess Paisley brings you breakfast every morning and we chose to eat on the patio. The food was memorably fantastic. She made fresh tamales in banana leaves and the best chiliquiles ever and fresh fruit. Some days pastries other days waffles. Always some delicious eggs as well. And fresh juice and coffee. And it was all presented beautifully with flower garnishes and on beautiful dishes and huge portions. Anyway, incredible food.
Also, the place. Is located in a really fun artsy neighborhood with antique and thrift stores and book stories and record stores (yes) and lots of places to eat (from newish gastropubs to down home cal kind of places). If you’ll I’ve in LA I liken in to Los Feliz neighborhood or Wicker Park in Chicago. Also less than 5 minutes from Balboa Park.
Anyway, we had a great time. Food was awesome and we loved the privacy and atmosphere of our own little casita and courtyard.
Only words of caution are wifi was pretty dodgy but worked some of the time and the room/​bathroom space is a little on the small side. But we loved it. Thanks!

This was the first stop of our honeymoon, and this little B&B ended up being our favorite memory of San Diego. It’s in a cute little neighborhood, and just a short walking distance to great restaurants and shops. We ate at the Smoking Goat– which was delicious, but honestly, NOTHING could have topped Paisley’s cooking at Vintage Sol. Her breakfasts were out of this world! We stayed 4 days and had eggs benedict with queso, homemade tamales, french toast, loads of fresh fruit and fresh juice, homegrown peppers from her garden… I couldn’t bear to let any of it go to waste, so several days we just saved leftovers in the fridge and ate it for dinner again. Yes, it was that good.
The rest of our honeymoon consisted of a road trip filled with many B&Bs throughout California, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona. Although our trip was amazing, not one other place measured up to our first experience at Vintage Sol. It has so much personal character, and we felt so at home and relaxed since Vintage Sol only accommodates one reservation at a time. From our bedroom, we had access to the most beautiful, romantic patio. Paisley stocked the room full of food, snacks, drinks, and anything we could have possibly needed in the way of toiletries. (It’s these little touches that impressed us so much! I’ve never stayed in a place that values its guests so much!) There is a great DVD and book selection for those nights that you want to stay in, and several binders filled with information, maps, and phone numbers to places you should visit in the city.
I would recommend this place to anybody! It was perfect for our honeymoon, but I would certainly go back with friends or even alone! Thank you, Paisley, for your incredible hospitality!

I adore this place. The location is perfect for touristy things – two miles from Balboa Park and 9 miles from Coronado Beach and is walking distance to bars, great slow food restaurants and nifty thrift shops. The room is cozy and quaint with all sorts of thoughtful touches (extra toiletries in the bathroom such as Q-​tips, razor blades and ear plugs). There’s a kitchen with a well-​stocked fridge (ice cream, coffee beans, soda and juice), a charming portable fireplace (even though we didn’t need it because of perfect San Diego weather) and a courtyard with a reading nook, barbecue island and patio table. The proprietress is an absolute darling and bubbles over with enthusiastic suggestions on where to eat, shop and sight-​see. The B&B is definitely a labor of love which you can see in the careful chosen tchotchkes and flea market treasures that decorate the place. It’s been about a month and I still miss the cute upcycled tin robots and Paisley’s homemade tamales.

Cozy, romantic, beautiful courtyard. Kitschy décor, delicious breakfast. Expect to make your own coffee. We didn’t get any margaritas, limeaid, chips, or salsa. The fridge is stocked with oj, bottled water, sodas, and hot sauce. Good selection of recent dvds. Lots of coffee table art books. Old school crt tv, small, and hard to move so you can see the movie. Don’t try to light the candles like we did… they look and smell just like real candles, but are in fact electric! Sheets and towels had a lot of fabric softener. Host is warm and helpful, but I miss my damn margarita!

Vintage Sol is a funky, cute bed and breakfast that shines through its gastronomic excellence. When my girlfriend and I checked in, we were greeted with homemade tortilla chips and limeade. Breakfast on the first morning was cheese blintzes with strawberry and chocolate, and on the second day the owner agreed to make two extra tamale breakfasts for my brother and his wife who wanted to join us.

I just returned from a great stay at Vintage Sol. Make no mistake, the room is small and it is a full size bed for two… but the breakfast and hospitality are what made our stay wonderful. We were even greeted with Margaritas and our only fire in the patio one night… I would recommend to a couple or solo traveler looking to explore San Diego via car. This isn’t the «main area» in San Diego, but that is why I chose this place a little off the beaten path.
